Empower Fitness has everything I wasn't getting at Oak Marr: small, uncrowded classes (that you reserve a spot for); classes on holidays (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day...); workout routines that change regularly and often; and, most importantly, attentive instructors. They teach the proper form for each exercise and keep an eye on you during class, giving suggestions and encouragement. All fitness levels are welcome, and the instructors provide modifications to accommodate ability and injuries. I've been going 12x/month for a year (4-5x/week during the summer) and I am still injury-free and looking forward to every class.

Two months ago they decided to close the studio with one day notice to their clients. The management swiftly transferred everyone to the Burke studio. This was unfortunate because the travel time with construction was not feasible. I asked to freeze my account for a month while we traveled, but they still managed to charge for another month! While I was away I decided to cancel my membership instead of freezing for another month. I was told they would refund the charges to my account. However, the story changed once I cancelled my membership fully. They seem to change the rules to their benefit with no regard to their loyal customers. Mind you, I stayed with the studio during COVID and joining workouts in the parking lot! I never froze my account, and actually encouraged my family and friends to join Pure Barre. In the end, my dedication to the company of Pure Barre meant nothing to them and they stole a full month of charges without any regret. I would never deal with a company like this again, and I hope you don't either, because they don't care about you or your fitness journey, they will change the rules and the days they charge your account so you will always lose and they will win. Pure Barre should be ashamed of themselves for running the business with such disregard for those who have stayed loyal to them thru the years. For CrossFit specifically, the energy is great, and you get to learn how to do the movements correctly, but at times (mainly when I first started), I've felt a bit judged and lost. It really depends on the instructor and the time you go. Hyrox, on the other hand, is great since you're usually in groups, which makes it feel more structured and supportive. All of the peak instructors I've had have been really friendly and motivating! The owner is also very welcoming and encourages bringing friends, offering a free trial class so you can see if it's a good fit. *Workouts: Classes usually have about 10-25 people, and you can go at your own pace. I typically go 4-6 times a week, switching up which classes I take. When I first started, the workouts felt tough, but over time, they've become much more manageable (results, yay!). Personally, I'm one of the most unmotivated people when working out alone, and they do a great job of encouraging you to show up at least once a week. The classes are a mix of bodyweight exercises, weights, and cardio, so there's always variety. *Pricing: I pay $159 a month for unlimited classes (~$6.65 a class if you go 6 days a week), which also includes 24/7 access and amenities like massage chairs and saunas. When I first started, I was on the $99 plan for two classes a week, which is a good option if you're not ready to commit fully. *Overall Thoughts: Halo Fitness is a great option for anyone looking for that little extra push. If you're new to CrossFit and have the time, I'd HIGHLY recommend going a bit early and asking questions so you don't injure yourself and don't feel so lost walking around, wondering what you need for the workout and which stations aren't taken.

Wellness Advising - 1 STAR - I had multiple changes in wellness advisors, even on a monthly basis (these sessions are only done once a month) due to turnover at the company. There was a gap between wellness advisors without a re-assignment. Furthermore, lack of transition between wellness advisors regarding my past records, discussions, and calendar availability - Measurements not necessarily aligned with my stated fitness goals resulting in poor progress tracking, in addition to lack of consistency in what wellness advisors measure. I do not have a reliable month-to-month comparison of my results. - Very frustrating experience overall. I cancelled my remaining wellness sessions by converting them into personal training sessions Personal Training - 3/4 STAR - The initial workout program I started was not fully aligned with my stated fitness goals during the consultation. For this reason, my results did not meet expectations based on training 2x per week with Bounce Fitness and 1-2x per week on my own. - The program was adjusted when I voiced my concerns with Bary approximately 2-3 months into the program. I started seeing results 1-2 months after the adjustment. - The trainers themselves are great - Colin and Alireza (Ali). They have strong backgrounds and are committed to helping clients reach their fitness goals. Overall, I feel that I wasted the initial 3 months following a program that was not tailored to my stated fitness goals. Most clients have weight loss targets, whereas my goal was to gain lean muscle mass, and my program was not tailored accordingly from the start. I was already in good physical shape such that I did not need a long ramp-up period to learn exercises and increase my stamina. This combined with the ineffectiveness of the wellness sessions leads me to not be a repeat customer after my few remaining sessions are completed. I have discussed all the above with Bounce Fitness and understand that the issues are being addressed. I hope that future customers are able to have a better experience as a result of the changes implemented to the programs.

This isn't just exercise, this is schooling in muscle structure, strength and in class explanation and direction of how each "Pilates move" is performed, specific muscles targeted and why they are important. Classes are small allowing the instructor to correct form and encourage each of us; so we get the most for our effort. In October I asked them again to stop charging me and to refund the charges. They told me they could not do so and then had the audacity to charge me again in November!!!
