Rox Climbing Gym is located within the Lake Nona Performance Club and is now the closest place to climb by my mom's house. It looks like members of the LNPC can use the climbing gym for free, as I saw a number of people just walk in. For non-members, you can buy day passes and rent gear if you need it. I visited alone and couldn't find a belay partner, so I couldn't get a feel for the lead routes. However, there are four auto-belays, which gave me at least a few routes to play with during my visit. The walls are nice and textured, so you can smear, and I definitely needed to for these reachy routes. I had fun with them, but I'm sure my shorter friends would complain. Although it is a very small space, the gym has maximized the walls with bouldering, top rope, auto-belays, and lead climbing. There are crash pads that can be moved for your boulder problems, and the one wall attached to the gym side of the building is the higher of the rope walls. Generally, I would say the setting is pretty fair and offers something for everyone. Observably, there seemed to be mostly new climbers there the day I was there, which is why I couldn't find a belay partner. Plenty of parking is available outside, both covered and uncovered. I can think of many good things about this place, but the staff who go above and beyond as well as the interesting climbing routes/problems are what stand out to me about this climbing gym. A huge shout out to Ivan and Diamond for teaching me how to belay, showing me cool routes that they set, and making me feel welcome every time I go to climb. The gym is on the smaller side, but there are still plenty of routes for all levels (both bouldering and top-roping) that I still end up spending 1-1.5hrs each time I go. I climb at a V2/3 here and there are probably about 6-8 bouldering routes I can work on plus an additional few V1s for warm up. I'm surprised the free rental climbing shoes and harnesses included with day passes or membership are always in great condition and have never smelled. The bathrooms are always clean, and it's nice they have multiple fountains to refill water bottles. Overall I love this gym for my physical activity each week, and since I'm on a family membership with 5 other people, it's only costing me $20/month! read more

What a fun day! I came here with my husband. He's been wanting to go rock climbing for a little while now. This location is not too far from our house so that's nice. I really liked how they have a variety of walls with different levels available. My husband was able to do the harder walls while I stayed on the beginner ones. (Some of those levels looked really hard. The beginning levels were hard enough for me.) I really liked how they had areas to repel yourself back down. The thought of jumping off of the walls made me uncomfortable. So I found myself constantly using the same beginner wall to repel off of. Admittedly the first time it was a little scary because when you first repel it kind of catches you. So you have to trust it will catch you. I'm not very strong so I highly recommend if you are like me start on the beginner walls. Even some of the people who were doing the harder walls went to the beginner wall to practice. It was $26 per person for non members with equipment. Which includes a helmet, climbing shoes and harness. They have you watch a safety video and sign their waivers. After you sign in they will walk you around to show you the different areas and explain how to use the harness. I would definitely recommend wearing tighter fitting gym clothing for rock climbing if you're not sure what to wear. Make sure you're comfortable and wear socks. read more

Good routes and unique holds compared to the bouldering gyms I've been to. They have a variety of routes and plenty to offer for beginners. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The membership plan looked pretty tempting and affordable, but we decided to hold off since we're already Blue Swan members. So, there is a rock climbing gym in Lake Nona. Great news if you want to lead some routes, top rope, or Boulder. It's a great gym. Well layed out with Eldorado walls and sparkling new holds. The gym staff are great. They seem to know what they're doing, have good instructions and methods, and are all climbers too. The Rox gym gets 5 stars in my book. So why the 4 star rating you may ask? The rock gym is part of the "Lake Nona Performance Club" (LNPC) but, it appears no one told the LNPC they have a climbing gym. Before the gym opened we (me and some climbing friends) researched the requirements, hours, costs, can we lead, etc to climb. The first clue was the lack of any response to any of our emails. The second was their gym tour on Instagram that was narrated by a friendly helpful lady that appeared to have minimal climbing experience. But, hey, they're new, give em a break... Then there is the price. The climbing gym itself is $15/day, but that's only if you're a member of LNPC, otherwise it's $30. But that includes gear (none of which we need). We were told that we can be a member of the climbing gym only for $90/month - or the whole gym for $98? (plus $299 to start). So at some point (6 days a month) it's cheaper to be a member (of Rox only). Cheaper, not cheap. Considering the other gyms in the area are about half the cost for a day pass. But if you are a member of any other climbing gym I've been to, you get unlimited climbing for no extra cost. As an example a member that climbs two days a week average would pay $50/month at gym "A", $65/mo at gym "B", and $210/mo at Rox! So Rox is definitely not geared to be a gym for serious climbers even though they have lead walls and a great climbing staff. This should cut down on the number of people using the gym considerably. Is it worth a drive to Lake Nona to lead climb every month or so? Yes. Is it worth getting a membership? No. But, at least the holds will still nice and new when you do go. read more
