We have had our three sons there for more than five years and think that it is a extremely warm and caring place. Our boys have learned a ton from their teachers, both educationally and in terms of being good people. They are excited to come to school every day, which is the biggest endorsement I can think of. We have been in all of the classrooms in the school multiple times since we have three children and we can't rave enough about the teachers. They are loving and enthusiastic and great at what they do. The director and assistant director are both wonderful people who truly care about the children and the school. When they realized that our oldest son and some of his classmates were going to need to repeat pre-k because they missed the kindergarten cut off, they created a new class for them, complete with advanced pre-k lessons, an awesome new teacher and weekly field trips all over the city. No place is going to be perfect all of the time, but The Giving Tree has been such an overwhelmingly positive place for our children that we continue to bring them in to the city every day to come to school, even though we moved to the suburbs in 2015. A number of families do the same. There is a crazy waitlist, as a previous reviewer has noted, but that is because families like mine have been there for years and have not left, so there are not many spots to be had. It is also true for all of the good daycares in the city, as far as I know.

He's also learning a ton, more than what I could ever teach him myself. The teachers are all super caring and his current teacher is very responsive and proactive with letting me know how he's doing. Their facility is quite nice, especially with recent renovations. They also have a spectacular rooftop play area. They have a ton of activities: soccer shots, gymnastics, yoga, music with Mr. Joe, librarian, and special guests with animals or a magician. There's a special activity every week, if not more often. They do SO much every day, I know my son is enriched and well supported by all the teachers at the daycare. We are so happy and proud to be part of the TGT family.

The staff don't just clock in and out, they actually pay attention, they communicate, and they make sure your baby safe at all times. Ain't no weird vibes, ain't no sloppy energy. The place stay clean, the kids be smiling, and you can tell they actually learning something, not just sitting around. Every time I pull up, my child is fed, changed, happy, and taken care of. I feel like I…read moreneed to thank them for hosting the Machine: Autostart conference so I could meet some of the sharpest minds in New Media - then write all about their work. My brain still kind of explodes when I think about that time I met Noah Wardrip-Fruin and our ensuing discussions of Brian Kim Stefans' "The Dreamlife of Letters." Oh hot damn. My geeky sensibilites are delighted just thinking of KWH! ...but I'll muster up all the restraint I have and try to review them instead of talking about hypermedia. The kids that work at KWH are all incredibly friendly and dorky in the most charming way (they're literate and they like to have dance parties after readings are over), they book some amazing authors to read, and the community discussions that ensue after the readings fill my heart with warm Quakery goodness. This place is a godsend to the community - everyone should go! You don't have to go to Penn to attend their events. I went to Bryn Mawr, and everyone at KWH was completely welcoming to me. I felt warmly encouraged to return.
