A great stop for lunch headed to or from South Dakota. It's a tourist gift shop meets diner, and my…read moreexpectations were low, but guess what - the Indian Fry Bread Taco works! It's a big order - the size and shape of a pizza, and less like a taco. Don't mistake it for an authentic Mexican dish. Fry bread meets basic taco - but a fun comfort dish. The Buffalo cheeseburger was good with fresh ingredients but the taco is the reason to stop. Service was super friendly- really nice people.

After eating two thoroughly mediocre Indian Tacos in the past couple of days, I was excited seeing…read morethe signs advertising the Indian Taco at Custer Battlefield Trading Post Cafe as being the best in the west. As I walked in, I saw posters stating that this restaurant was recommended by Oprah herself. Very promising! Frybread with Honey ($8.99) - The frybread here is fantastic! As with most frybreads, it's a plate-sized frisbee of fried dough, although irregular in thickness and leavening. Some areas have the chew and puff like a doughnut, while other areas are almost completely hollow almost like pita bread. The frybread is crisp on outside without being overly greasy. It goes so well with the honey they provide in a squeeze bottle delivered to your table. I would eat this as-is again and again. (5/5) Indian Taco ($14.95) - Now, take the excellent frybread and use it as a base to ladle on seasoned ground beef with beans, chopped romaine lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, diced tomato, and black olives. Instead of dousing the top with salsa (might be pico since it's quite thick and not runny at all), it's thoughtfully served in a cup on the side so you can dress the salad to your liking. I actually preferred it this way as I found the salsa to be very salty. The dish also comes with a packet of sour cream on the side. I found the beef to be ground a little too well. Instead of a traditional ground beef texture, it kind of felt like frozen burrito-style extruded beef. Not the best texture, but I guess more authentic? (4/5) One of the issues we found was with the cups and silverware - both smelled kind of musty, like they weren't properly dried. I guess just don't sniff them and you'll be fine? Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the food served at Trading Post Cafe. I definitely recommend the frybread if you're visiting Little Bighorn Bathrooms: At least one individual unisex room in the store

I've been seeing these at Love's along my drive and they're definitely cheap - two for $3.33 or something like that. How could I not? The pump area was tidy with no trash. Long stick squeegees and that was helpful for removing the bugs and grime from the windshield after a lot of driving. I went inside and prepared my coffee. Good choices, a half dozen or so creamer flavors and several different types of sweeteners. At the hot dog roller, the buns area was well stocked and there was a combination of "ready" and "still heating" hot dogs available in multiple flavors. It was the basic beef dog today and points off because the cheese dispenser was out and the chili was almost out. The other toppings options were needing restocking. This needs some work. Otherwise, the rest rooms were clean and the store was clean. Maybe just an off morning? [Review 17134 overall - 50 in Montana - 650 of 2022.]

This little coffee shop and its accompanying barber shop are attractive and inviting!…read more Additionally, the large deck off the coffee shop is very nice; the big cottonwood trees surrounding it are lovely. I imagine that on summer evenings it would be a sweet spot to enjoy a beverage. Even with this said, I cannot see how ARISE can make it. This is a conclusion that I am not happy to make. But I've come to my opinion because (1) a variety of coffee drinks and Italian ices are all that is available. The menu resembles what one sees at any Starbucks. And (2) Arise is located much too far off the interstate to attract tourists. People traveling through this part of the state are more likely to take in the activities at The Little Big Horn Battlefield and to enjoy a meal at the restaurant located near that site than they are to stop here. Nonetheless, if coffee and pie were offered at Arise, I think this delightful little spot would see some activity and perhaps even see some profit. Now, I'm aware that profit is NOT what Arise is about. This is a Christian community meeting place. It's a fine idea and could be made finer by actually being able to bring in some people. Right? (I'm not certain the founders did the research necessary to understand the "market" from which they intend to draw.) I'd love to see this little business make a go of it in Lodge Grass. Clearly, a lot of time and effort have gone into putting an Arise coffee shop on the Crow reservation. The possibilities are there! And I don't mean to be glib, but Jesus doesn't just come for coffee. He comes for community. "Where two or three are gathered together, there I am among you" ~ a gathering of this sort IS the start of a community. True? Yes! So get that gathering going! Finally, I'll bet that the tourists you're looking to entice would be most interested in trying some Native Fry Bread and sweetened ice tea. Afterall, they can buy coffee, etc., any day of the week, from any coffee shop in any town or city off any interstate in the country. Traffic is necessary for the communal & financial success Arise seeks. I sincerely hope this wonderful idea can, and will, revise its strategy into something that will ultimately work. Best of luck!
