The place is decorated in a minimalist style, simple tables and chairs, some booths, couches, benches and basically anything that will fit more people in to this always packed brekkie and lunch cafe. If the 5m long menu board isn't overwhelming enough for your taste buds make sure you DO NOT LOOK at the food cabinet on the way up to making your order as it will just confuse you more. The first time I went here I was distracted by so many things on the menu that I went for the safe eggs and coriander on rye option. A bit disappointed at the cost versus size of the meal my experience was slightly tainted. But as I sipped on my Ginger Zinger drink that was like star anise and gingery lemon jesus juice in a cup I looked closer at the menu and at what people were eating. It seemed that their big pancake and their roti wraps are the way to go. Upon my return to give this place a second shot I ordered a vegetarian twist on a bacon and egg wrap and, despite a bucket load of sauce and a fair amount of oil, I was impressed. As Laura said though, aside from the Ginger Zinger, the other highlight here is the bowls of coffee they serve. Yes it is a bowl and it is filled with smooth, creamy coffee goodness for you to dip your whole face into. Also don't go past their gluten free desserts here! Their lemon curd cake is delicious.

I visit sleepy Semaphore quite a lot, as the old parent-shaped people live that way, and it was only relatively recently that I stumbled across this haven of Scandinavian delights. And I'm not just talking about the cute mustachioed barista. Complementing the birch tree wall art and Viking paraphernalia (I'm a huge sucker for Viking paraphernalia) is a tasty menu of baked goodies that are fresh, sweet and plentiful - as well as Swedish-inspired specialties like elderflower drinks and traditional waffles. Any country that has a TRADITION of waffles is all right by me. They seem to be undergoing renovations at the moment, but the place is still very cute, with kitschy Swedish accessories, some chandelier action, as well as the aforementioned radical Viking stuff. There always seems to be a queue here which is also a good sign - and, super importantly, the coffee is solid. ALSO: THEY SERVE COFFEE IN A BOWL. A bowl, people. There is a specific dessert menu with more temptations than you could possibly ever want. The coffee is passable but not great. The toppings bar is the only thing they have got wrong here. If you are seated in the cafe you have a parade of kids in front of you playing about with the toppings making a noise and a mess. If it is a nice day there is also seating outside in the square which is a good option but it is quite a distance from the cafe itself.

Seating can be stretched so you'll want to save seats pretty quick smart. I'd recommend the waffles.

Thursday night last week we decided to sit in the cafe for a cup of tea after we had been out for dinner. It was really lovely to sit and relax, and the cup of tea was lovely. They served the tea with a bone china cup and saucer :) which always makes tea taste better :) The coffee that my Dad had was really good also :) I will certainly go here agian next time Mum and Dad stay here :)

The interior is large, filled with dark leather furniture. It's a good cool place to be on a hot day, to drink a coffee and watch whatever sport is playing on the TV. In terms of nearby cafes, it doesn't have much atmosphere, feeling more like a hotel than a cafe. I was very impressed with the coffee here, as I asked the waitress to make it cooler than usual, and she said "About 50 degrees?" Talking in degrees at least means she knows what she's doing with the milk. She came out with a perfectly heated coffee that I could drink immediately and not start sweating. This may appall some coffee drinks, but I like mine at any temperature. Heaven help the person who throws away my coffee because it's gone cold. I had my coffee with a tasty banana and caramel tart as their $6.50 deal. Completely satisfying.

The variety is vast, and they seem the perfect solution for individual dessert selection after dinner - or as a mixed plate with friends for a tea or coffee. Mine came out, stacked elegantly one half leaning off the other, looking sadly small and lonely on the plate. I had the prosciutto and cream cheese option, and they're generous on the pig! They use a very thick and tasty type of prosciutto, which went well with the cream cheese and baby spinach leaves. I finished feeling almost satisfied, which I didn't mind, because it meant I could get myself cake later on. I was pleased to find that they do a great coffee - strong and smooth, not too hot, and a generous size. Definitely the best coffee to be had in this centre. Their "Happy Hour" is one for the oldies - from 2.30pm to 3.30pm they have coffee and cake for $6.50 and coffee and biscuit for $4.50. Any later and people won't be sleeping that night. Happily, their standard large comes with 4 shots so I don't have to explain too much to the lass taking our order and risk sounding like something out of "LA Story". Sadly, on a 37 C degree day, my order isn't as straightforward. I love cold drinks on a hot day but without all the ice cream and whipped cream that make up the great Aussie iced coffee. Basically I like what The Guy likes but on ice (minus the 'extra hot' bit obviously). Here's the great part... They got it! It was perfect. The coffee was good. The price was good. The server was friendly, helpful and not easily fazed. It's dog friendly and close to the beach. Awesome.
