I think that a lot of people drive past on their way to wineries, but they should really stop for a coffee. It is just the cutest cottage. A few different rooms and you will find the café part in the middle room. What I really love about this place is all the little hidden room dining areas. There are range of take away options for lunch or dinner for the family. Some super tasty looking stews, pasta and salads. Wow! All decently priced and a great healthy alternative then going out for takeaway. I look forward to return to eat some lunch. On this visit my guest and I tried the Lemon Polenta and the Pecan cake. Both were very moist, full of flavour, and not too sweet. Which is perfect by my books. The coffee is a strong and robust. Lovely blend and great barista. You couldn't have asked for anything better on a cold rainy day! I think I might become a regular as a resident of the Hills! I am looking forward to warming up near their open fireplace.

As is often the case, I'm glad I was wrong. Little did I know a quirky little cafe is the perfect replacement for a redundant service station! So far I've only had coffee, but based on the experience of our group the overall customer experience is great! Our coffees (and one iced chocolate) came out really promptly and were top notch (and very affordable somehow). We opted to sit out the back, a great choice for a bright, warm hills Autumn morning. It feels like being out the back of my Nanna's house (retro table and all) only no one is yelling at me through the back window about the football scores.. which is good I guess, for a cafe anyway.

It's a very narrow road, made more narrow by the fact that cars are parked along it pretty much the whole way on both sides. So once I finally worked out where this place was, I was really very desperate for a milkshake and a break. OMFG. What a great place! The menu, while not huge, is packed full of extremely appetizing foods and drinks. The chocolate milkshake I had might well be the best I ever experience. It's hard to describe how good it is. I did get a couple of the handmade chocolates to try, and like the milkshake, they were delicious. Service here is excellent. Really friendly. The shop itself is a converted house, and it's beautiful. It really is. It's surprisingly large. If you look at it from the street, you'll have no idea how many people can fit into this palace of chocolatey pleasure. I'm another who would give this place ten stars. Or more.

Antonio lives today because of wonderful shops like Humbugs and all of the stupidly fattening lollies that they sell! Humbugs is your typical old fashioned sweet shop, with imported bars and pops from the US, loose candies and old favourites. Each time I head in I grab myself a super sized jaw breaker. The last time I forgot I had started one and I only found it recently in the front pouch of a brief case. Is it wrong that I didn't hesitate to cram that sucker straight back into my mouth? Nah....course not! By the way, the fudge is really good, but there is a number of places in Hahndorf that also make their own. Sample them all and see which you like the best (Humbugs is the cheapest).

Humbugs is one of those places that gives you the warm fuzzies. They have every lolly you could imagine and more. Remember those weird horrible tasting lollies that looked like fruit, I bought some, and giant gobstoppers that are still bigger than your head. I don't understand these- how on earth are you meant to get it small enough to fit into your mouth!? However, I still bought it and hoped for the best (no progress has been made). I like the fact that these shops now stock weird American lollies. These lolly shops are some of the only places in Adelaide where you can buy Dr Pepper, Pop Tarts and other chocolates, such as Hershey Bars. I grew up on Pop Tarts, hence I still crave them and drive to a lolly shop to get my fix. I must admit the flavours that exist now are so bizarre- ice-cream sandwich, bubblegum? What on earth happened to plain chocolate and strawberry. Oh well, there is still nothing as satisfying for breakfast as a Pop Tart.

All of the loaves are baked according to a traditional sourdough process that involves a long fermentation. It's thick and moist, always soft and even after a few days in the pantry not crusty. It's deliciously moreish, you just want to have piece after piece. It feels like a waste using it for sandwiches or toast. You can't buy directly from the outlet, so don't bother driving up to Mylor. The family-run business stocks their bread in a few stores in the hills, WIlson's in town, a few IGA's and at the Mount Barker's farmer's markets. For a full list, check out the downloads list on their website. At around ten bucks a pop - depending which outlet you buy it from - the pumpkin and olive loaf is definitely on the pricey end. But it is worth it - a special treat. Last time I bought a loaf, I ate it by myself in a day and a half. Have it with dip or just with a little bit of olive oil. This is my favourite of their loaves - delicious meaty olives in a vivid orange bread. Other great loaves include: plain sourdough, wholemeal sourdough, seeds sourdough, light rye, dark rye and caraway rye. Oh and fruit loaf lovers will adore Mylor fruit loaf - it's closer to Christmas cake than bread. Halved figs, apricots, raisons, ginger, honey, orange and spice. My only criticism was I once tried a new fruit loaf flavour combination that wasn't quite as perfected as the other Mylor breads - but hey, it was still better than most of the other bread I've ever had before.
