They have the standard offerings you'll find at any other Copenhagen store but with more space than you usually see, with some interesting decorations hanging from the ceiling. The staff are clearly new, the girl that served us at the counter was quite slow and served us while other staff took and completed orders for other people that came in after us. Service later wasn't great either, drinks came out one at a time and food was the same, after a while it was clear one drink was forgotten which we had to ask for. Outside seating is nice but when the staff are calling out takeaway drink orders to the entire outdoor area trying to find the right customer it disrupts the relaxing environment you're there for. With time they I'll work out their systems and processes to get things right but until then go in with the understanding that things will take a bit longer than most other places in this popular tourist destination.

Farmgate Providore - $7.50 for a two scoop waffle cone

On a recent trip to Hahndorf, we spent a while walking through Main Street to find a nice place to…read moreget an ice cream - which is when we came across Farmgate Providore. Walking inside there where tables and tables of brownies, truffles, small cakes and even a few chocolate fountains (I was in heaven!). Although, I did find it odd that most of the cakes were just on tables without covers on them - so really anyone could touch the cakes etc. We paid for our ice cream inside, and then went out to the ice cream fridge at the front of the store. For $7.50 for a two scoop waffle cone, I was expecting a certain amount of ice cream. However, I was disappointed with the serving size - it was not good value for money. I ordered caramel and ferrero rocher ice cream which - as a self confessed sweet tooth - was a pretty average ice cream. Overall, there were lots and lots of nice looking sweets, but I won't visit Farmgate Providore again in a hurry.

If only I'd walked another block further and found the beautiful Caffiend in time. Alas. Farmgate Providore, your coffee was on par with McCafe, and whatever that german cream tit I ate was exactly, it was not worth the $7 I paid for it. We also dove into the "four boxes of strawberries for $10" bargain, which we definitely should have had second thoughts about, because two days later at least 2/3 of them were bruised and sad. Sigh. Tourist traps, you caught us good.

They have an amazing and quirky range of flavours- all made fresh in the shop and offer free tastes to curious passer-byers. On the front of the shop there is a sign that boasts most of the flavours. Some of these are pavlova, Turkish delight, chocolate cookies and cherry ripe. Most of them seem to be based on the popular chocolate bars- but taste a lot better. I need to recommend the snickers. Think the absolute perfect ratio of peanut, caramel and chocolate in an ice cream. A hint for boys- this is the best way to any girl's heart. Apart from ice cream the shop also sells a modest selection of lollies and chocolates. I wouldn't recommend purchasing these from here though as there are many brilliant lolly shops in Hahndorf.

Treats of Hahndorf focuses on the latter (you can get a kransky elsewhere) and like most ice cream shops offers their own special flavours you're unlikely to see in other ice cream shops. I was quite taken with the pavlova ice cream, while my partner had her usual bubblegum ice cream. The quality of bubble gum ice cream (or whether or not they actually stock it at all) is her way of telling a good ice cream store from a bad one. The fact that she tried one of the free samples outside the store, then wandered in for a cup of it should say something. I'm not sure if they offer the free samples every day, but if you try one be prepared for a wander into the shop. As well as ice cream they also various sweets and soft drinks that can be found just as easily down the road at the Hahndorf sweet shop. Still, it's nice to have them here too for convenience.

It's a very narrow road, made more narrow by the fact that cars are parked along it pretty much the whole way on both sides. So once I finally worked out where this place was, I was really very desperate for a milkshake and a break. OMFG. What a great place! The menu, while not huge, is packed full of extremely appetizing foods and drinks. The chocolate milkshake I had might well be the best I ever experience. It's hard to describe how good it is. I did get a couple of the handmade chocolates to try, and like the milkshake, they were delicious. Service here is excellent. Really friendly. The shop itself is a converted house, and it's beautiful. It really is. It's surprisingly large. If you look at it from the street, you'll have no idea how many people can fit into this palace of chocolatey pleasure. I'm another who would give this place ten stars. Or more.

In fact, they generally are cheaper than most other bottle shops. Depending on the product. But if you are a craft beer lovers (like myself) you will notice the difference in price. If you love wine, you will be excited to know that unlike large bottle shop chains, you will find boutique South Australian wines here. Some wineries are very particular on where they sell their produce. This is one of those very lucky destinations. But this isn't just a bottle shop/cellar, it's also a lovely café and patisserie (as the name suggests). You will find a lovely range of pastries, cakes, sweets, sandwiches, pizzas, and salads. All of them are gourmet and special. Last time I had lunch here I picked up a great special, a slice of pizza and coffee for $10. The pizza was great. It was pre-made and heated. But, it was still quality with smoked salmon, capers, and veggies. Great quality base as well! As for the coffee, I am not entirely convinced they have their in-house blend right. But, I am always willing to try it again. My barista overheated the milk as well. Oh well... Last thing to mention is the range of crockery & home wares available instore on the back wall. Very nice selection of designer pieces. So worth looking at if you are after a gift or wanting something spesh for home!

But we're here to talk about this. fancy. place. Come up, grab a quiche, a ginormous berry meringue to crack open and devour, a cheese plate and coffees for everyone - and then go hard at the goods. Great ambiance. Want to buy ridiculously fun and expensive local and imported goods? They've got it, too. Or if they haven't, pop next door and see if they do. With seating that allows you to watch the staff behind the scenes or the trees across from the complex, styled with fun, comfort and genius. Go solo for some quiet times, or bring friends and enjoy the moment. Go initially for sophistication and depart with an armful of new friends to drink (sensibly!). Just don't miss this spot - whatever you do.
