Where I come from, this means they scoop the ice cream into a cone, then they turn the cone upside-down into warm chocolate which then hardens around your ice cream into a chocolate shell. Sweeet. Here, it apparently means they dip the cone in chocolate and then scoop the ice cream into it, which is not nearly as exciting, and also they charge an extra 50 cents for it. I am a bad. bad person…read more As a child I recall Royal Copenhagen as being the ultimate treat - delicious ice cream in a wide array of flavours, topped with cream and your choice of caramel or chocolate fudge. Not much has changed, except the cream is no longer complimentary - but I think I'm okay with that. My boyfriend is a huge fan as he loves the caramel fudge - often we'll stand there and add more and more to our ice creams as we eat it, without any judgement from the staff. There are some delicious flavours, today I had the white choc and caramel and a nutella but in the past I've always loved the jaffa choc orange - they lose a star because last time when I had this choice, I only got one Jaffa in the whole scoop *sad face*. Jaffa's aside, the waffle cones are great - and they offer to dip the top in chocolate for free if you' like! Open til late, if you drop by later in the day, the fudge station tends to be a bit messy but apart from this, the ice cream is great!

I also know that they use real quality ingredients in their flavours, the Nutella has real Nutella in it, Cookies and Cream is made with Oreos and Jaffa Orange with whole Jaffas. The staff are always fresh faced, usually female and attractive, in their trendy black shirts. I think George, (the owner) must pick the staff to entice the males of the community to come and buy ice cream. For the children and young at heart, there is a self serve topping bar which is very popular, personally, I like my ice cream unadulterated. My favourite flavour here would have to be the name sake: Royal Copenhagen, it is a sheer delight for the taste buds; honeycomb and butterscotch - yum! They also do really good shakes, one of my favourites being Old English Toffee flavour. For entertainment while waiting for your ice cream you can often watch one of the staff sitting at the large waffle making machine preparing your fresh cones.

It was busy but didn't feel crowded and it had a lovely relaxed feel with its clever placement of candles and cushions. Run by Tiarne and Hayley, who are barely out of high school, they have taken on a huge challenge, which they seem to be meeting effortlessly at this stage. The fit out is perfect with its feature brick wall and hanging pendant lights. The dining area is segregated from the ice creamery by a dividing wall which is an improvement on the Henley Beach sister cafe. This means that the topping bar doesn't get messy or intrude into the quieter dining area. Concertina doors allow an indoor outdoor feel on warm nights if you are inside and there is also an outside seating area, with beach views. The general Copenhagen Formula is the same with a great selection of gourmet ice creams and deserts but the cafe feels a cut above the rest in fit out and service. Well done girls!

It's a very narrow road, made more narrow by the fact that cars are parked along it pretty much the whole way on both sides. So once I finally worked out where this place was, I was really very desperate for a milkshake and a break. OMFG. What a great place! The menu, while not huge, is packed full of extremely appetizing foods and drinks. The chocolate milkshake I had might well be the best I ever experience. It's hard to describe how good it is. I did get a couple of the handmade chocolates to try, and like the milkshake, they were delicious. Service here is excellent. Really friendly. The shop itself is a converted house, and it's beautiful. It really is. It's surprisingly large. If you look at it from the street, you'll have no idea how many people can fit into this palace of chocolatey pleasure. I'm another who would give this place ten stars. Or more.

There is a specific dessert menu with more temptations than you could possibly ever want. The coffee is passable but not great. The toppings bar is the only thing they have got wrong here. If you are seated in the cafe you have a parade of kids in front of you playing about with the toppings making a noise and a mess. If it is a nice day there is also seating outside in the square which is a good option but it is quite a distance from the cafe itself.

But because I needed an iron hit that's what I opted for. The steak sandwich arrived on my table, it looked pretty much like any other I'd had before but then I took a bite. ..... PERFECTION! Surprise? The steak was fillet, plenty of it (drool) and cooked b-eeeeautifully :) Whenever I'm in that area again I'm going in for another treat.

The wait was a little long (about 10 mins?) because there were 2 or 3 orders before us. The shop provides some games for people to play, but I didn't get a good look at the selection. Both ice cream cups were delicious, but I think we enjoyed the nutter butter more. The flavours are great, and neither were overly sweet. However I think the full price of $9 per cup is a little expensive. I'd still recommend trying it if it's new to you, and the delightful little store is definitely a nice place to hang out!
