Before heading back towards home I needed to stop and grab some behind the counter items and I knew that Royal Farms would have them. It also seems that a lot of other people knew this as well. When I went inside I only needed items from behind the counter so I made my way there. There was a line and only one employee behind the counter. They do highly encourage the use of the self checkout registers. However, with what I needed it wouldn't have mattered. To say the line moved slowly would be an understatement. It didn't help that they were sending people to the self checkout that didn't want to use it and when they used it, they needed assistance from the only employee behind the counter. Every customer in front of me just seemed to lack every concept of how to complete a transaction in a store. I finally get to the counter, was kind of directed to the self checkout, but I was like, nope, I need something from behind you. I had to tell the employee several times what it was, I think on the third try it was the right item. Sometimes the chicken is good... sometimes the chicken is not so great. They still have some toddler sized wings. I still like the potato wedges... the mac and cheese has no soul. It depends on who is frying and seasoning... last time I went... overly salted, some pieces fried too hard; other pieces, the batter wasn't cooked thoroughly through. Today I visited this location to have a break from driving between NJ and the Carolinas. As a first time visitor I'd rate this brand with a 3.5 because it's clean and well-stocked, but it fails to deliver a wide array of food that is made-to-order. On the plus side , they offer breakfast sandwiches all day, unlike Wawa and QuickChek. AND, I was pleased to see that their super modernized coffee machines include a Jamaica blue mountain roast, one of my favorite go to coffee blends. However, their competitors outpace them on all other made-to-order products. Their options are limited to chicken sandwiches/wraps and carby options like Mac'n'cheese and rice. In fact, the only veg option I found was cole slaw. No salads, no deli meats, no smoothies. read more

I got a 10 peice dark 6 - chicken tenders Family size wedges $25 These are NOT Chuck E. Cheese kiddie menu tenders either. They are the size of HALF a breast. VERY adult. No joke. Not dry, but JUICY breast meat. I'm addicted and I don't particularly care for tenders - anywhere! They have lots of sides but I always get the fries. No place to sit (not that you'd want to dine at a gas station mini mart anyway), so it's all grab 'n go. The fried chicken is pretty damn amazing and the best fast-food fried chicken per Food and Wine Magazine. You order your food at a kiosk, go to the cashier to pay, and go back to pick up your food. Gas prices are fairly comparable to Costco so am wondering why people would not just go here. They also offer a rewards program so I may just sign up soon. read more

So I don't know what the hell is going on at this store. The first thing you noticed is there is NOT even one American working at this location. EVERYONE IS INDIAN. Also when you try to complain about the food other employees come over and start arguing with you also like it's a ENTIRE FAMILY working here and they're playing the defensive side. Everyone even looks related even. Usually in retail this is not allowed for loss prevention reasons. But I guess corp overlooked this store. The food here has down very down hill. The first order of chicken I got was very dry and tasted like it had been there for hours. I called the manager back on the phone and he said come back for a remake which I did. When I came back for the remake. You would think I was asking for the hope diamond. I was actually being accused of not buying the chicken and I just wanted free chicken. But they quickly shut up when I presented the receipt. VERY RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE HERE & DISRESPECTFUL. The remade order was even worst. Upon opening the box I noticed the chicken looks very very different then normal RoFo chicken. IDK if it was the breading or what. It just looked weird. Upon tasting it I knew why. Tasted very nasty. Hard to describe. Whoever is making the food here needs to be fired and/or be told stop trying to be a chef and change the recipe or something. Lastly. I've been hearing about Royal Farms' "world famous chicken" since moving to the area, so I thought it was about time to check it out. I needed to put gas in my car anyway. After filling up I placed my order on the kiosk (And got a shake at she shake machine. I mean, how awesome is that! You can even select how thick you want it.) and paid at the counter. By the time I finished paying my chicken was ready and I headed home. Oddly enough when I turned on the kitchen television, there was Justin Tucker promoting Royal Farms. The chicken had a good flavor but I'm not sure about world famous. (Sure, I guess someone in Australia or Poland might have said once "I had some fantastic chicken at this gas station in Maryland once. You should try it if you're ever in the area.) This Maryland chain is quite nice... a more Southern version of a Wawa if you will... or a more Eastern version of a Sheetz or Rutters! Definitely the same wavelength here. They serve "world famous fried chicken", burgers, dogs, sandwiches (hoagies), fries and sides, and have the usual selection of self-stable snacks and cold drinks in coolers. They boast that "Since 1959, we've been satisfying the mid-Atlantic area's hunger for real fresh food served real fast!" I opted for a coffee and candy. They had unseasonal but delicious pumpkin spice coffee available in May - and the usual selection of sweeteners and milk products. Not too shabby. If I return to this area of MD, I'd give it another shot, and maybe even try the world famous crispy fowl then. read more

This Royal Farms location is a convenient store and gas station. There are several kiosks for customers to place their menu items to be made. Once you placed your order, a receipt is provided for you to pay at the cash register. Shortly afterwards your customer number is called, and your food is given to you. I would consider Royal Farms a one stop shop if you're on the go. read more

The filth is not from today - it's piled on and layers of it. Which means the manager comes in and says NOTHING! No one is held accountable so with that type of leadership at the helm - they MUST go! Lots of gas pumps available. Store is big and fairly clean. A lot of selection, but what i came here for was the fried chicken, especially after reading about how good it is. unfortunately, it fell flat for me. It wasn't horrible or anything, but I was expecting something better. The breading was good, but the breasts were definitely overcooked and dry/stringy. The chicken at Chick'n Friends is significantly better (though a bit more expensive), and I'm not sure if the Royal Farms was better than Popeye's or KFC honestly. Hoping it was an off day ... might try again some day. read more

Royal farms usually has great chicken. I was soooooo disappointed the last time I went here to grab some food. It was not too late, it was about 9pm, and there was plenty of fresh looking chicken displayed. For some reason the person behind the counter decided to give me the oldest chicken that tasted like wood. It was hard and gross. Of course I didn't realize this until I got home, after smelling it and expecting some great tasting chicken. Not sure why this person decided to do that to me. :( read more

So far I've resisted the siren song of this location's chicken. My review is thus limited to their function as a gas station. I've been buying gas here since I decided not to renew my Costco membership. Their prices are generally reasonable for this area, especially considering their proximity to I-95. A lot of stations near interstates jack up their prices. This is a very busy location, so the area around the pumps gets a bit crazy. Be alert, and ready for attack from all sides. On the plus side, turnover is brisk. Their pumps work nice and fast. They also have generous parking for the convenience store. Hence, only the laziest and most inconsiderate customers leave their cars blocking the pumps. (Yes, we know the chicken is calling, but please take a minute to move your car ten feet.) Exiting onto Lark Brown Road can be a challenge when traffic is heavy. Protip: don't even try to make a left here. Even if you survive, you'll need treatment for PTSD. Just make right turns onto MD 108 and Old Waterloo Road. It only takes a couple more minutes, and your nerves will be so grateful. read more

The made to order is a disaster. It took 15 minutes to get two sandwiches made correctly. After one came out wrong the lady told me that I need to tell her what I want, not just order it the way I want on the screen. While that's annoying, I actually had confirmed the order when I picked it up from the counter only to unwrap it and find out that it was indeed incorrect. Food may taste good but it's a slow, disorganized mess to get. read more

2 Stars because the chicken & wedges are delicious! Appalled by my recent visit. I frequent this location approximately 2-4 times a week because it is quick and easy. Today was the worst service I've ever received at any convenience store. As I walked in, the food counter employee yelled "fuck" and slammed the gate from the cashier area, immediately exiting to go smoke in front of the building. I placed my order and overheard a customer trying to tell him to smile, he rolled his eyes and he went behind the counter. I used the kiosk to order a small meal, proceeded to get a few other items, in no rush at all. I checked out and proceeded to walk over to the food area only to see the food counter employee quickly run to the front to smoke again and this time he was chatting with other customers. I sat there waiting for a good 5-7 minutes with absolutely no help. I asked another lady if she was waiting, and she said yes - she had been there a lot longer then me. I went to the cashiers and asked if someone could help me, they said "he's smoking" and then continued helping other customers. Finally, he arrives at the counter - no greeting, no apology - just "what's your number". He handed me my food, but chose not to look at me when he did. I asked the cashier if there was a manager on duty, she replied "no" and continued counting money. I do not expect for a red carpet to be rolled out, but I do expect customer service! Out of the 3 employees they had working there, none of them cared to find a solution to the problem. None of them apologized for the wait, the foul language, nothing. Best part, he chose to not wash his hands after smoking... I couldn't eat after realizing that. Hire new [good] employees who HELP YOUR CUSTOMERS, who CARE, who can PROBLEM SOLVE, and who WASH THEIR HANDS when they're making food. read more
