Royal Farms is a well known gas station / convenience store chain located in the Mid-Atlantic region with locations in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, and West Virginia. The first time I was exposed to Royal Farms was during a past visit to Ocean City, MD, and one of the locals raved about their "world famous" fried chicken. I popped in to grab a 4 piece box, and did find the chicken to be pretty tasty. So I was super excited when this brand new Royal Farms location opened up near my office in the Camp Springs, MD area. When my old office near Union Station in downtown DC relocated out to the hinterlands of PG County two years ago during the height of the pandemic, I was not so thrilled about the prospect of being out in the 'burbs; a primary reason being the utter lack of dining options. But since I returned to the office in March of 2021, I now have a plethora of lunchtime choices ranging from burgers, pizza/pasta, sandwiches, and now fried chicken. This location is right off the freeway, so very convenient for a quick pit stop if you need gas, a bio-break, coffee/beverages, and most importantly, some food. It's still new, so everything is shiny and at least during my visit, the restrooms still very clean. Walking in, the interior is well lit and there is lot of natural lighting from the front windows. It has all of the things you'd expect to find in a gas station convenience store. There is a beverage area to the right with coffee, soda, etc. Also a large selection of prepared "grab and go" food such as sandwiches, donuts, and the like. But I came for the chicken. Walk up to the one of the self-order kiosks, and after touching the screen, navigate through the menus to order your meal of choice. I got the two piece dark meat meal, with the potato wedges, and roll. The order process is a bit convoluted, because after you place your order a receipt prints out, and then you walk over to the registers and use another self-serve kiosk to pay for your order; there was an attendant who could also ring people up. My two piece meal was ready in about 4 min, so it was a short trip back to my desk to enjoy the food while still hot. The only real critique I have with RF chicken is that it is a bit on the salty side, which other folks have noted at their other locations. Other than that, I always find the chicken to be juicy and flavorful. Depending on when you visit, the skin can vary in how crispy it is, but since I went lunch time when fresh batches were being constantly fried, my pieces were just right. I brought along a co-worker who had never been to RF and even she agreed that the chicken was pretty good. This place will definitely be in the rotation of office lunchtime spots. read more

This is a less than great Royal Farms and I'm not sure it's their fault (as in it's not for lack of trying). The location is crummy being on the side of a busy road that's a little rundown. Multiple signs forbid backpacks in the store which brings up questions like "what if I walked here with my backpack and don't wish to leave it unattended on the ground outside the store?" We ordered veggie subs, they were not good despite the intense labor the employee seemed to be experiencing putting salad greens on bread. We had our road-trip lunch at the outdoor seating and it wasn't very clean plus also this random guy was digging through the cigarette disposal bin and collecting used butts to smoke a few feet from the table. I havent had RF chicken in many years so today I came to get a chicken box. The store is clean, the process is automated (like I like), and service is quick! I got a 2 piece (white meat) with fries. The fries were nice and hot, but tasteless. The chicken was hot and crispy, but lacked flavor. This wasn't as good as I remember. I do regret cheating on my meal plan! Also, it would be nice to have the option to order AND pay at the same screen. read more

For a fairly new establishment (probably been open for a year or three) it's the Dirtiest, Filthiest gas station and food service organization I've seen and been into in a while. The men's restroom wreaked of urine. I had to hold my breath in order to use it. I would not eat from here or get coffee from here either, even if someone paid me to do so. Management needs to be replaced or get a good butt kicking for allowing this establishment to go into rapid decline. At least pay a good wage to hire good folks who care. read more

The employee's here are very rude . There was 7 people in line and nobody at the register but yet they tell all of us we have to wait for the kiosk . I have cash . Cash only . I waited for the one cash machine . The machine messed up so the guy at the machine went to the register and they started scanning his stuff at the register . They proceeded to tell me I have to wait for the cash machine to come back on yet they just rang a person up at the register . This felt very much like racism to me , I really want corporate to see this . These people either hate their job or they are racist . Either way terrible customer service you can't get tobacco or nicotine ever because nobody wants to actually work the cash register. I won't spend my money here ever again . This place is awful. The food is way over priced and they take forever to make it. Like it's a convenience store not a Michelin star restaurant. Why am I paying these price to wait almost an hour to get my damn food. The employees are rude and do nothing but chat with their buddies that come into the store. They are always out of something in their food prep area. Which again begs the question why pay for something your not gunna end up getting. Mannn i Don't know what her name was but was she amazing. It's so easy for one to loose their moment of calmness when incidents occur. Long story short, put gas on wrong pump - someone tried pumping already but she helped cancel it- i made that mistake and started getting a bit rowdy BUT she calmly helped me through and resolved it 100%. Shout out to her you are amazing !! Ya needa give her a raise RF, Foreal! It was night shift -woman with pretty long dreads. read more

I ordered a chicken salad sandwich with donut holes. They gave me a roll with chicken salad and one donut. I'm pissed

I used Door Dash to deliver my food from Royal Farms and they went to 5200 Auth Road to get my food and the chicken was old you could smell the old grease and the thigh meat was black to the bone. The macaroni and cheese was spoiled and the potato wedges wasn't seasoned. I would never ever suggest anyone to purchase anything from that franchise terrible so disappointed. read more
