It takes a truly horrible experience for me to leave a review on anything, but I feel like it is my duty as a human to share our experience with Royal Movers today. After a verbal estimate of a particular hourly rate, and plenty of sweet talking of discounts from the owner Chaz (real piece of work this guy), the price we were required to pay was not what was agreed to at first estimate. I'm sure there was no estimate put in writing by design, for this purpose. The three men that helped us move today were incredibly slow and complained more than I have ever heard movers complain in my life. These guys were fully prepared to charge over $3000 to move a 1200 SF bungalow with no couches, appliances, or other large items to move, 15 minutes down the road. They watched myself and another gentleman carry the heaviest couches out the front door from the comfort of their work truck. To top it all off, after about 45 seconds of conversation to try and understand why the hourly rate was suddenly increased (through foreman Mike to Chaz), Chaz refused to honor the originally agreed upon hourly rate and flat out called my mom a f***kin b**ch to Mike, not realizing he was on speaker phone and we could clearly plainly hear him. Mike was immediately embarrassed and quickly changed his tone for the rest of the day, profusely apologizing and talking down on Chaz ("I'm certainly not working here for the ownership", etc.). I have never seen anyone, let alone the owner of a company, so unprofessional in my entire life and I work in construction! I will be telling everyone as long as I live to not use this company. Save 50% of your money and use college hunks and be done in 60% of the time with no grumbling or babysitting. These guys rob you blind and then disrespect you right to your face. I can't wait for Chaz to reply to this review. I wonder what he will call us next! Ha!

I'm sure this review comes as no surprise to Chaz, the owner. A local family member who knew Chaz was the one who decided to give our moving job to Royal Movers (had I read the reviews before the contract was signed, I would have preferred we gave our business elsewhere). That family member would not be on site nor point of contact the day of the move because she was working. Another curveball thrown by us was after we had finished packing the night before the day of our move, we realized since we were downsizing from a two bedroom to a one bedroom, it would be better to utilize a storage unit temporarily. My cousin asked me not to try contacting the movers about the change of adding additional drop-off locations as it was late on a Sunday night and it was an hourly job so adding destinations shouldn't be an issue in her opinion but she would give him a heads up in the morning. Chaz told me when we met the next day, he is available to be contacted 24/7. I became the point of contact on the day of the move as my mother is 74 years old and a slow walker and didn't get to the phone fast enough when he tried calling the first time. I theorize it was all our last minute changes that put him in a bad mood. For all the years in business, I was surprised at his inability of rolling with the flow and lack of expertise. If you have a simple, pick up ideally packed boxes and smaller lighter furniture from Point A with a short walk and dedicated service elevator and deposit them randomly at Point B also with a short walk and dedicated service elevator then this might be the right company to choose because Chaz and his co-worker Ace definitely worked hard. But according to Chaz, he hadn't been to this senior apartment building pickup location in 10 years and verbally shared his aggravation to learn there would be so much walking to the truck and waiting for the shared elevator. I believe he thought me rude by responding that is where the property manager told me he could park, what is the alternative he suggests to improve that situation, and also I'm the one it's going to cost more to move as it was an hourly rate job. The contract apart from having addresses, does not have detailed description of the job so may be add that so the movers know upfront the size of the move and amenities at the locations. Despite skipping their lunch break, this job took almost 8 hours to move a 2 bedroom from one senior living apartment complex to another (10 minute drive) plus a 20-minute stop at a storage unit (10 minute drive) and 10-minute stop at a personal residence to deliver a couch (less than 10 minute drive). Make sure you discuss how you'll be billed for less than hour increments. They charge a service fee for paying by credit card and don't accept personal checks and wouldn't accept a cashiers checks (though invoice states otherwise). They will disconnect electronic equipment but will not re-connect it so I recommend having that all packed up yourself and transporting it yourself so it's organized in a way for you to know how to reconnect. I did not communicate, I would be reconnecting the equipment first thing at the destination location but I assumed with so many years of moving experience Chaz would know I'd have to since I couldn't move the 70" television and the wood cabinet it sits on by myself once everything was reconnected. Another tip he shared upon arrival for making his part of the job easier, was to have all the items going to each location in one room. I hired movers to do the heavy lifting and packing of the truck. There simply wasn't enough room in one room to stage all of it. Instead, I pre-made areas in each room for each location and had marked each box/item with which location it was going to. I stayed on site, while they were loading and unloading in case they had questions. While he found me to be rude, I found him to be very derogatory toward me as a woman and I felt bullied by him. Had I read the reviews after the contract was signed, I would have requested a different pair of moving team that excluded Chaz as Ace provided respectful customer service aiming for 100% customer satisfaction and the destination location property manager even shared he thought Royal Movers was one of the better moving companies he'd seen do moving jobs there. I am very grateful they completed the job with everything in one piece and in the same condition but cannot say it was a pleasant experience for anyone involved.

Edit on 11/25/2023 - @ Chaz accused me of being a fake reviser from another moving company. I am not a FAKE reviewer; this is how he treats people! I attached the "contract" that you wrote to my parents and blocked out their names and signatures to protect their privacy. You managed to steal $1,500 in cash from them for work that you did not do. I was nice in my review below. If any potential customers would like to reach out to me, please do. Sadly, my dad passed away in July and was unable to post this review. I was at their house the day that Chaz and his packers showed up to pack on day 2 and demanded cash up front, prior to work being done. Chaz screamed and yelled at my 84- & 87-year-old parents and walked out and never returned. I would give a zero if it were possible. Do your homework and check all of their reviews and complaints at the BBB. Experienced first-hand how my elderly parents were treated. Cash payment demanded upfront, prior to work being done. They swore and yelled at my parents and left without packing or moving them.

Three pieces in the basement. We had it move out the back door and to the trailer in minutes
    John J.

Hired to move furniture from basement, upstairs and main floor. We wanted to stay within 4 hour window of time and maybe another oh our if needed. Basically, three dressers, a bed, three couches and some cabinets. They scheduled the job and showed up at our house to review the lay of the house. Basement furniture easy (right out the back door and to truck. Main floor easy (right out the front door). Up stairs would be most difficult but not complicated and smaller dressers and a bed. I explained that we tried to minimize the difficulty for them and thought they would be happy! Well when hours got discussed (originally 3 hours at $185.00 an hour plus we were to pay an additional bonus hour for the no less than 4 hour time they required. We agreed to pay $185.00 x 4 hours. They said wait, we need to call dispatch and came back with a new plan of no less than 7 hours. I questioned the additional 3 hours that were just added on and the crew got upset that I questioned the hours. The owner revealed himself and started to tell us he didn't need the job an we were going to pay 7 hours or nothing. Again I didn't understand how the hours changed and the fact that we were only going 10 miles down the road and they had three large grown men there to work. Owner Chas came unglued and started using profanity and I tried to calm him down. He used the F word and would'nt even agree to meet in the middle. In a rage he did not start the job and walked over to talk to one of my neighbors. I asked to please do not leave and let's talk work it out. He MFed me and left us with no way to move and seem so happy that he screwed us over. I wish I would have got him on camera. Well, thank god for UHaul, I called them and picked up a 6x12' trailer hooked to my F150. Called a couple nephews and paid them rack $100.00 an hour. We move that "so called difficult and time consuming stuff" in a few hour and they aren't even professional movers. This Chad guy is an aggressive vulgar man that has issues with anger. I found that UHaul has movers for hire when you rent from them. The nicest people and an alternative solution so you don't ever have to call Chad's arrogant personality. A thorough review of the contents to be moved versus the cursory review by competitors. 2.A competitive price. 3.Our things were moved in dedicated trucks and not mixed in with other people's stuff. 4. Honestly about damages: a table literally fell apart during packing and the crew pointed it out to me rather than concealing it. 5. No high pressure sales tactics. 6. The guys were patient with my wife repositioning furniture at the destination. 7. Nothing was broken although we had quite a few minor dings in furniture. 8. Crews showed up on time at both ends of the trip. Negatives include: 1.No formal acknowledgement of payment. They were almost offensively anxious to get the final payment even though the third and final truck had not arrived. 2. Loss of focus at the end of the day: We did a walkthrough at the end of the loading process. Every time we found something that needed to go into the truck, the guy leading the walkthrough took it out, chatted with the guys on the truck, and then we would lose our place. This resulted in a few things being left behind. At delivery, the guys took down a door to get furniture into the basement but never put it up again. They also left a moving blanket and personal items belonging to one of the guys. The items were eventually restored to their owner. 3. Not mentioning messes or problems. After the truck left I found that one of our toilets was plugged with toilet paper, paper towels, and human waste from someone that was apparently ill. Fortunately, I found the problem and was able to unplug the toilet and clean things up so this mess was not left for our cleaning crew. I think I would have responded calmly to this if I had been told about it. I can appreciate that it would have been embarrassing to report this to me. I'm human too.

We felt confident. Boy were we wrong! $15k down the drain. Everything became a complaint or an argument. We had picked them specifically because they said they would build a crate for the lathe and charged another $1000 to do it. On the day John argued he would not move it and had never agreed to. Much less build a crate for it. I ended up providing makeshift materials and show them how to safely move it. When it got here things were bent and broken. While getting boxes in the truck two of them kept pushing each other around like two little kids. They eventually dropped a bed frame on the hardwood floor and then one pretended to be hurt. We saw it. It never touched him but he screamed it broke his foot and was bleeding. Yet somehow he had no issues moving boxes. The same two guys kept pushing each other around until finally one was thrown right where a snow plow was being moved. The plow flipped over and narrowly missed his foot! I turned white. The truck they brought was not big enough. They had to go and offload it and return. That took them 4 hours. We had to walk behind them around the house because they would constantly not grab all the boxes from rooms but close the door and say it was all done. Always an argument ensued. Things like yard equipment, glass and awkwardly shaped things were taken separately on the truck. When these guys arrived they had two trucks and just 3 people. As they opened the truck I saw one of my generators sitting upside down! The lathe was loosely strapped to the side of the truck sitting on the same material I provided. Things on it were bent and broken from bouncing around. All the yard equipment and awkwardly shaped items were just stuck in tall garment boxes. Trim pieces from my truck I had just painted were scratched and rubbed through. Ruined. Boxes were crushed. The guy with the "broken foot" kept limping around. John hardly did anything. Boxes were placed any which way pretty much anywhere. We had to insist and argue for boxes to be taken where they belonged. Things that went into storage were just chucked in and boxes placed right at the entrance. It was a mess. We gave up on having the furniture put back together as we just wanted them to leave.

The initial Red Flag was during the conversation I mentioned the need for certain documentation from him to go forward (Basically licensing information, and Insurance Information) as asking for a Certificate of Insurance (COI) is INDUSTRY STANDARD for a move like this. I received IMMEDIATE Push Back and was told that I didnt need said information and that I could get his licensing and bonding information from LARA (Michigan Licensing And Regulatory Affaris) which I did: [Federal License: They hold a valid federal license under USDOT #2303845] and their other license [They are registered as a domestic profit corporation in Michigan (ID: 800705051)] What i couldn't get is Bonding and or the COI ...which i need to protect ny inventory and myself from damage, and or loss. As I said this is Industry standard. I explained this to Clarence and was told that I would recieve that information at a later time after further discussions. Fast forward I talked to Clarence yesterday to confirm that he would recieve an inventory list by no later than close of Business today 5/8/2026 !! He's assured me at the time of our last phone call that that was suitable. We stayed late into the evening yesterday creating an itemized inventory list for Clarence.....only to be told today that he couldn't do it because he has another big move scheduled for "The Government" i dont know how true this is but I find it highly suspicious that 1) he did t call this morning to let us know that he couldn't complete the move which most assuredly could be the case......but in the name of professionalism and the time we have spent on the phone wouldn't it be standard to let us know? Secondly in MY OPINION I think he didnt like the verbiage that was used in the inventory email j. That it specifically asked again for the COI, and ending information as is STANDARD in this business. in our first conversation he told me that he had never been asked for that type of information before and I explained to him at that point, that when doing business with multi million dollar businesses you have to do everything right, he then went kn to tell me how many rich people from the lions and mentioned doing a move for the Taubman estate etc....which is fine but asking for a COI is standard......I feel as if Clarence is operating without being Bonded or without the proper insurance to protect not only the belongings of my company but of anybody he is moving. Again this is my opinion based off of my conversations with him and his subversive responses. He may very well have these very important documents and insurance im not saying that he doesn't what I am saying is that people need to be careful. He has cause me to lose valuable time. I did however call another moving company who gave me without question the documents that I asked for and I am looking forward to this move albeit at a higher price than expected. I would simply like to remind Mr. Clarence (Still dont know why he didnt identify himself as the owner instead of making it appear as he was someone else employed there) thay doing good business is paramount to being g considered great in the business world I own a Mortage company and a Real Estate Brokerage the referrals alone could have netted you a an upwards of six additional figures a year... but you moved Mr. Taubman so maybe you didnt need the business we could have thrown your way. People be very careful and cross all "T's" and dot all "I's" Time was wasted here and after reading the reviews on here and on Google as well as further research I now understand why MY Response to His Response: Sir at NO TIME, ot ONCE, have said anything Negative about YOU or Your Business what I did HONESTLY and EFFECTIVELY was communicate my experience with your business. What I did attempt to do is offer some of what I hoped would be deemed as valuable feed back from one Black Business owner to another. As far as me claiming to be a CEO I never stated that; What I DID say was that I am a success bussineman. As far as me being a disgruntled ex or former employee... sir I can surely attest to you that we do not know each other nor have we ever met outside of the few conversations that we had. What I can tell you is this: I tried to use this as a learning experience for you, your business and for the consumer who doesn't think about things like insurance that movers are supposed to have when moving their belongings personal or professional and what amount of liability is covered in the case of property being damaged, lost or stolen and how to protect themselves as well as trying to help you with the refinement of your communication skills. I felt that I was obligated as a black professional to make sure I did my due diligence to help you better yourself and your business as others have done for me jn the same context

When I finally spoke to an upper-level manager -- some two weeks later -- he immediately behaved as if I were trying to scam him -- claiming that I had had construction done since the couch was delivered which made it impossible to remove and that I was attempting to get him to re-plaster my entire house. When I said I just wanted him to repair the plaster they had damaged, he said his liability only covered 60 cents per pound of the object being moved so he would only be able to pay about $150 (Not sure where that figure came from.) and that it was my job to find a person to repair the plaster. (This was after the lower-level manager assured me that they had a person who could do the work.) I'm fine with people making mistakes, but in business and life people who don't acknowledge their mistakes or work to make them right are not worth dealing with. This company seems to operate well as long as everything goes smoothly. As soon as you have a justifiable complaint -- that, for instance, your property has been damaged -- you will be treated with aggression, condescension and contempt. Other reviews here echo that same sentiment and are worth paying attention to. This situation is very simple: I paid the full bill to have couch removed. I have not been compensated for any of the damage done to the plaster on my staircase. Anything else is noise. Let the buyer beware.
