We walked in and there was a bit of a wait, but that's on us for not making an appointment, so no worries there. There was another person waiting too, but we managed to social distance in the lobby. Once it was our turn, Stuart was awesome! He was 100% focused on the task at hand, answered all our questions with care and was obviously very passionate AND knowledgeable about what he does. What I appreciated most was that he narrates what is happening to your body, as well as talks through what you're feeling, and gives like, time count downs throughout, which I found REALLY helpful. CASH ONLY. In terms of wheelchair accessibility: the bathroom is definitely NOT wheelchair accessible. The door opens inward and there is a very narrow walkway between the counter and the wall that you need to pass through to get to the toilet. You *might* be able to navigate it with a cane, probably not with a walker, definitely not with a motorized wheelchair. The shop area itself (where you would be getting your tattoo or piercing) is open and the tables are moveable, but there is a narrow "walkway" between counters that you must pass through to get from the 'lobby' area to the 'shop' area. Parking is on the street and is catch-as-catch-can so allow yourself extra time (and pray for luck to the parking gods if it suits you) when coming by car. They offer a discount for veterans! I got tattooed here in 2016 and it was the worst tattoo I ever received. This shop is filthy, and I'm not sure how they have a license.

I got a simple line drawing on the back of my neck, but my friend wanted something elaborate. We have been looking for the "perfect" picture and refining ourselves, but he was never satisfied! We first went in to see their portfolios, and saw some decent works so we made an appointment next day and went in with the designs... It was a wednesday and for some reason VERY busy.. we were there for about 3 hours total.. The GOOD news is, the rough design we brought in were touched up perfectly and my friend was VERY satisfied with the updated version! It took the tattooist about 2 hours to get it done, but it looks amazing! They are super helpful and patient and they actually wants you to have a meaning behind what you are about to permanently put on your skin for rest of your life. If I ever decide to get another one, I will definitely go back! read more

I can't say anything about their tattooing, because I only got my septum done here, but I was very happy with the piercing I received. They were sterile and made sure that I was happy with the jewelery I was receiving. And they made sure that I understood what I had to do to keep it clean, which must have worked, because it healed beautifully. The people here are also quite nice. I got a piercing for my 15th birthday, so not only was I a giddy little girl at getting a piercing, but we had to deal with all the legal crap that comes with being underage and getting a piercing. And they were incredibly nice about the whole thing. I'm swapping piercings for college and getting the side of my nose pierced instead, and I'll definitely be back! read more

The service here is mediocre. Half of the people are polite, a quarter are unfriendly, and another quarter are just kind of there. I can not speak about tattoos because I have never gotten one from here, but a lot of my friends have, and for the most part, they look really good. As for piercing, I would never go here again, the lady who did it, just pierced it (industrial) and said that I'm good to go, no instructions on how to take care of it, no advice, nothing. Lately, it has looked semi infected and I have gone back there multiple times to ask, every time I go, I get the same answer "Salt and Water" but it just doesn't seen to work. I went here to get an ear re-pierced that a crazy lady messed up so bad it sorta scarred me and i couldn't get up the courage to go through that again; I also have a fear of needles. As soon as arrived though they were just the nicest most welcoming people you could imagine. They walked me through it and were so gentle and understanding. The whole process was extremely sterile and the piercer matched my other hole perfectly. I was just so impressed by their whole shop. I highly recommend them :) read more

I called to make sure that they accepted walk-ins for piercings, I was told that they do. I walked in after driving 45 minutes to get here and was told their piercer was "running errands" and I'd have to wait 30 minutes for them to return. Extremely unprofessional. Would not recommend. I went to Royal Oak Tattoo to buy a new nostril hoop and have it put in. (My nostril hole has always given me trouble with hoops because of the curvature, so I always have someone put it in for me.) The guys who work there, although they made fun of the transgendered people who came in before me, were very friendly to me. I asked them for a nostril hoop. One of the guys said they didn't have any, but told me I could get one meant for an ear that has a ball in it, take out the ball, and clamp it together. Since I've worn one of those in my nose before, I thought that would be okay. So I paid 10.60 for the hoop, and 10.00 dollars for handling the jewelry. (Even though I would have normally turned around right then and there because I've never had that happen to me before, and I've been to lots of body jewelry places, all of which have OFFERED to do that, free of charge, I proceeded because I was in a time crunch and my only other nose stud didn't have a backing to stay in.) Then, one of the guys took me back. The back looked dirty, and was very messy. There were discolored plastic curtains separating all of the different stations, a baby crib, and gross looking floors. I was very conscious of how dirty the guy helping might have or might not have been. Also, all of my piercings or things related to that have been done in a separate room, with a chair for me to lay on. Here, I sat up with nothing for my head to rest on. The nostril hoop had a bigger gauge than my hole, so without asking me, he put a taper in my nose. This is not good! I assume he only did this because of the size of the jewelry he already sold me. After causing much pain, and making lots of tears stream down my face, he called over his friend to show him how odd the placement of my piercing was, which I didn't think much of because the angle is a little different than most peoples. I had just gotten over a nose infection, so I thought that had caused the pain. The guy who helped me acknowledged that it probably was hurting me, but was very unprofessional and rough about everything. Like I said, it hurt a LOT, and not because of what I thought. Long story short, the guy !re-pierced! my nose at a different angle (a fucking weird one at that)! with a taper! so that the jewelry could fit through without him paying attention to my own nose. Terrible experience. Went there for a simple tattoo of my daughter's name came out with something that looks like a prison tattoo. I was then told I could get it fixed for no charge since I was so unhappy. I'm still waiting. . so I paid 60 bucks for a shitty tattoo that's almost faded when I only had it a few months. I have to pay even more money to get it corrected. Good for piercing never get ink. You'll regret it read more

My husband and I went here on a whim while nearby. We should have turned around and walked out when I saw how dirty it was. The bathroom didn't have any soap and was dirty. The furniture in the waiting area is mostly broken and filthy. Our tattoo artist needs a lesson in sterility for sure, in addition to tattooing. It hasn't even been a week and my tattoo lines are bleeding into my skin and my husbands are both bleeding into his skin and one of them is half faded already. Avoid this place. I only have two stars because they were friendly. read more

The first time I visted one of the guys did a great job on the physical aspect of tattooing. However he messed up the design. The second time I went I brought a picture of what I wanted and he said he would call me withing a week after he drew it...... Its been 5 and still no call. I went here in may to get my tragus pierced. The piercer was very nice and seemed to know what he was doing. He told me he would not put a stud in that piercing because a hoop would leave more room for swelling. I said "ok" because I didn't know any better. Also, on the release they ask you to sign when you walk through the door, I wrote that I had a nickel allergy. The piercer appeared very confident and was even training somebody so of course I trusted him. However, I went back about a month later because I wasn't sure my ear was healing right (it had a piercing bump on the outside and was very swollen inside). The piercer told me to put some salt water on it and it should be gone in a few days. About 3 months later it was still there and had gotten worse. Upon further research, it was pointed out to me that the jewelry I was pierced with had nickel in it and was a hoop when it should have been a stud. I determined I needed to get this piercing removed or else my ear would not heal correctly. I am currently in the healing process, without my piercing, and down about 60 dollars... read more

Walked through downtown royal oak to a few tattoo shops and none of them seemed interested in talking to us. So we stopped here and they were very friendly, talked to my fiancé and I about tattoos we had always wanted, and ended up getting them here. It was my first tattoo and I was impressed with how understanding they were about my nervousness. The tattoo looked good and they gave me a lot of advice about aftercare. The people in the shop are super friendly and nice. If you want to get work done I highly recommend asking for Ed or Kyle. They are the only 2 that are talented artists and keep their word. I've had a horrible experience dealing with josh. Super nice guy but you work will not get finished. I paid him in full a few months ago, under the aggrement that If I paid him in full we would finish the tattoo in a timely matter. Been about 6 months and only about half way finished. I've scheduled numerous appointments... about 5 out of 6 appointments get rescheduled or postponed... when I would have a appointment I would have to wait a few hours to actually start working. I would be there for a long time and we would only tattoo for about a half hour at most. He would go back into his office then come out about 45 minutes later acting a little differently. I have often smelled alcohol on his breath. Then he would want to call it a night...told me to reschedule. I've been scheduled for many appointments that he has often not showed up, shown up late or start super late. I've also had a few sessions where he would be in the middle of working on my peice, see customers walk in the door and keep telling me he really needs money. He would stop my session to talk to other customers about tattoos. Then he would come back and be all focused on then and ask me if we could end the session early so he could make money on the other customers.. not very professional.... I've been dealing with it for months... my tattoo is still not finished, I have to pay another artist more money to finish up the tattoo Josh started. Far to often I often felt he was under the Influence while tattooing me. If he's in the zone he does amazing artwork but it's rare to get him in the zone.... on a positive side I HIGHLY RECOMMEND talking to Ed at the shop. Ed does amazing work! Royal Oak tatoo has some very talented artists and Is a great shop. Just have to be careful which artist you choose. read more

NEVER GET A TATTOO FROM MR. ED! The guy is a moron. Not only did he mess up my tattoo to the point that it looks ridiculous, he also added his own flair to my design without my permission; and was completely rude the entire time. The piercings I got were nice, but I wish I never even got inked. Do your research and DON'T let him put anything on your body. read more
