My grandmother stayed at Hartford Nursing Home for 6 months for rehabilitation services. I was…read morepleasantly surprised at how clean the facility was , and the excellent care my grandmother received while residing there . In my opinion Hartford is a 10 out of 10 .

My grandfather stayed in this rehabilitation facility for two weeks. The place is very nice…read more(because it is new). However, the staff is unprofessional, and the nursing board needs to regulate the licenses of some of the staff at this facility and have them take more classes on caring for patients. Including examining their documentation. Moreover, the front desk staff (dark brown skin with bleach blonde hair) needs to take a few classes on being professional. We came in one day, and she was at the front desk (in the morning) taking her braids out and combing her hair. Not to mention her daily attitude. I visited for a week and sat back and watched the horrible service provided to my grandfather. I feel sorry for the other patients who do not have family there with them daily. If you have family in this facility, do not leave them. Go see them every day, pop in on the staff, or if you can sit with them daily. My family was blessed to be able to go and sit with my grandfather daily. 1. The staff in the facility stole my grandfather's brand-new clothes. They tried to indicate that the clothes were sent to the laundry room. However, these were clothing my joggers that my grandfather received for Christmas with tags on them. They gave my mother the opportunity to go to the laundry room and look for his clothes. But of course, his brand-new clothes were not there. Not to mention, my mother took my grandfather's dirty clothes home daily to wash them and would bring clothes to him every two days. 2. When my grandfather arrived at the facility from the hospital it was to help him get his strength up. The doctor wanted him in the facility to increase his eating, drinking, and have physical therapy to regain his strength. The doctor had my grandfather on medication to help his appetite. We noticed two days later my grandfather had stopped eating. After talking to his nurse her response was "That medicine requires an approval, I did not send it in because he was eating good". So, as his nurse you did not recognize that he was eating well and on medication that helped increase his appetite? 3. When we came to visit, we would get my grandfather out of the bed. As a certified rehabilitation counselor, who has spent many days helping clients receive rehabilitation services, I have NEVER seen a place where the rehabilitation patients stay in bed all day. Never did they come in the room and ask if my grandfather wanted to participate in the daily activity that I saw some of the residents doing. If it was not for his family, he would lay in bed all day. 4. We started to worry about this facility, so my mom decided to come early in the morning. When she arrived my grandfather's sheets were FIFLTHY. We are talking bodily fluids, food stains, and Feces. My mom got my grandfather out the bed around 10am, requested his bed to be clean and sheets change. They did not come to change his sheets until 3pm. They did not come until my grandfather was so tired and week of sitting up, that he almost fell out of the chair. 5. While in the room one day, my grandfather hit the nurse button, 17 minutes before they checked on him. His neighbor was yelling and screaming for help one day. We had to go to the desk and the Nurse who identified herself as the Charge nurse was at the desk with her shoes off. When I told her that the lady in the room next to my grandfather had been screaming for help for at least 10 minutes, she seemed annoyed. She took her time, put on her shoes slowly and went to check on her. Not to mention the lady, who rolled through the hallways on several days in her t-shirt and underwear needing staff to help her put on her pants. 7. The day they released my grandfather, his discharge papers were falsified. They said he could WALK and that he was well to return home. If my grandfather could walk, why did a non- emergency ambulance bring my grandfather home? Let's not mention when we came to get him that day, that had him slumped over on the side of his bed with no clothes on. If i could write more I would.
