More than 5 !!!! Have been getting my dogs bichon/ bichon mixes (plus fosters) for over 20 yrs. I have been extremely happy with Deb's grooming and attention to detail. She always brings attention to possible concerns for me watch ie redness around penis, ear problems etc. She listens to me about health concerns ie hearing/vision, temperament ie possible biting or skittishness, how short or long to cut. I'm currently on 4 dogs needing grooming. Deb suggested I try bringing in two at a time. She followed up a few sessions later to see how it was working & whether or not I wanted to go back to bringing all 4 at once again. A few yrs ago, I had an emergency foster needing grooming. I took to Petsmart East. Worse grooming experience! I now watch through their window and watch the groomers.Not the most patient groomers-watch how they tug the leash or push down on the dogs. I found Deb based on a co-worker's recommendation after a horrible experience with now defunct groomer at Noah's Ark. The groomer shaved so close on muzzle he had razor burns! Hopefully Deb will have recommendation when she retires (which I hope is not in the near future)!! read more

I took my two dogs to Debbie for years and two years ago she dismissed us stating she could only see her preferred clients. She is fake and does not care about the animals at all. She is an inauthentic person and just about the money. She is a very nasty person and I now have a wonderful groomer at Tabby and Jacks. Don't trust Debbie with your beloved pets. Debbie and Royal pets did a fantastic job grooming my now ~1 year old Westie-Maltese pup. The prices were reasonable quite reasonable, and this was the first grooming job that he has gotten in Madison that I am actually happy with. I dropped Sherlock off before 8 am and picked him up about 3 hours later. Debbie took down plenty of notes on what we wanted to do to keep him well managed and cute. I gave her some treats because my pup is a bit squirmy to help supplement whatever she uses. Grooming included: - Cut - Nails - Shampoo & Bath - External Anal Gland Evacuation The animals are not allowed to interact so no worries about your furry friend getting injured. The grooming cost me $42 plus tax, but Royal Pets doesn't take plastic so make sure you bring cash or a local check. Sherlock appeared to be well taken care of and was happy to see me. The staff were very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. I didn't really know how I wanted Sherlock cut but Debbie steered me in the right direction. She also keeps notes on every animal that comes in to visit so grooming specifications can be changed on the next visit if you didn't like anything. I'll be returning for sure! read more

We just took our long-haired cat in for a lion cut. Our cat was not happy about being groomed, much less shaved, but Debbie worked so fast and she knew just how to handle her. The whole shave only took about 10 minutes, and Debbie was finished before our cat lost her patience with us. When we adopted our shih tzu, the rescue volunteer that did our home visit recommended Royal Pets when I asked where we should take her. Our dog was shy and scared easily, did not like strange places or strange dogs or strange people. But without fail, every time we took her to be groomed, she did not want to go home with us. The groomer would bring her out (and she always looked great), and then she would try to follow her back in when it was time for us to go. It's a magical doggie wonderland behind that door. They also did our long-haired cat's yearly haircut - very straightforward, no fuss no muss, and hands-down the least traumatic grooming my cat has ever had. I got to sit with her and hold her the entire time (cat is not a fan of being put in a box and taken to strange places - at all). I did not know how good I had it until we moved to Chicago; we finally found a good dog groomer, but they don't do cats, and they're not Royal Pets. read more

Debbie is fantastic. She grooms my persian in under 15 minutes, and he looks great everytime. She knows how to read animals, and stops whenever they are stressed. She takes cats one at a time, in a private room, so they don't get stressed by other dogs. I am so sad I had to move my cat away from her (with me to NYC), and I hope I find a groomer half as good as her! She also told me that any future groomers can call her for a reference for my cat, so that no one insists on 3 hour grooming sessions, or muzzles etc (which often happens with cat groomings). read more

I took our long-haired cat to Royal Pets for a lion cut, as he is getting a little too careless about grooming himself and he hates being brushed. He is not a fan of being taken places, and I wasn't sure how it was going to go. Debbie was super fast; he was buzzed down almost before he could react. I stayed in the room and distracted him while she was working on him, but we were in and out in less than 10 minutes. She talked to me the whole time about how the cut would help his skin, and she made sure he looked exactly how I wanted. Best of all, the lion cut really kept shedding to a minimum, and he was much more pleasant-feeling to pet. He's been nice and cool all summer, and I'll definitely bring him back when he needs future cuts. Note that Royal Pets does not take credit cards, so be prepared to pay cash or check. They were very careful to alert me to this when I scheduled the appointment, so I was not surprised at the register. read more

I am so impressed. I have never written a Yelp review, but I just had to say how great Debbie was with my difficult Himalayan. This cat is a terror at the vet's office and she is impossible to brush. I truly did not think it was possible for her to be groomed. My modest hope was that Debbie could get out a few mats, if that. Wow, was I surprised when she worked magic and in a flash Noelle cat had a lion cut and claws trimmed, with no histrionics. She knows how to handle cats. I bring my Pomeranian in to Royal Pets for grooming and I've always been so happy with their work, the prices, the polite staff and the cute store. My Pom is not the easiest to groom, she squirms and can be touchy about having her tail and back legs touched, but she always looks and smells amazing when I pick her up. I had a great experience here with my Himalayan cat Karl. It had been about 6 months since his last cut, and his fur was long and very thick. I showed Debbie a picture of how I like him cut, more of a teddy bear rather than a lion cut, and she shaved and cut his fur perfectly! It was an extremely easy process, Karl laid for her and she handled him with care, but got the job done in under 10 minutes. She also clipped his claws no extra charge. It came out to be just under $50. Cutting cat fur can be difficult, but Debbie at Royal Pets definitely knows how to handle cats and cut their fur correctly. I highly recommend! read more

Nickie's first trip to a professional (yes, I can do everything, but appreciate the value of paying someone to do a better job of it) groomer was a raging success! No blood, no visible marks (other than those resident blemishes revealed by a thorough haircut), and two days later, no residual signs of trauma. Plus, they gave her treats! All in all, this grooming job cost only a little more than the last time I paid for someone to cut my poodle's hair, and that was in Amherst Junction in 2006. My dog hates getting groomed. Nothing and no one will change that. This place continues to do a great job and cuts his hair exactly the way I like it. They make the whole process as easy and quick as possible to get my dog in and out. I wish they would expand their hours a little. Dropping a dog off at 7 am is a little harsh, hence the removal of 1 star. I'm not a day person. read more

I took my very matted and pretty finicky Himalayan cat in that was very matted. I was skeptical when they said it takes about 20 minutes since she was kind of a mess. But it really did only take about 20 minutes, Debbie could not have been kinder or more gentle with her and she looks great. I will not hesitate to return with all of my pets. read more

Debbie at Royal Pets is amazing! Not only does she trim my dog's hair very well, he actually enjoys going to the groomer which is remarkable. He is a very shy/frightened dog and before meeting Debbie it was incredibly traumatic for both of us when he needed a hair cut. But now, bringing him in for a haircut is a piece of cake. When Debbie comes out to get him, Riley he walks right over to her and sits at her feet with his tail wagging. She has a way with him that I appreciate so much, and he always comes out looking very handsome. Debbie is an excellent groomer, I would highly recommend her! read more

In August 2015, I brought my traumatized Himalayan cat (Sabrina) to Royal Pets. I had just adopted her after my mother recently passed away. I called her my scaredy-cat, as she ran from everyone even while still living with my mother. To make matters worse, I had to put her through two flights including airport security to bring her from Tampa to Madison. In a short time, her fur became badly matted from the stress. The groomer at Royal Pets was understanding; she didn't want to add to Sabrina's trauma. She said she could clean her up but it would not be a "proper" haircut. I told her I didn't expect any more considering the circumstances, but I appreciated her honesty. She worked around my arms as I held Sabrina and buried her face into my shoulder. The groomer was as gentle as she could be considering the difficulty of cutting off all the "dreadlocks." Admittedly Sabrina came out of the experience with her coat looking pretty chopped up, but I was grateful to see that the matted fur was gone. So my recommendation is not based on the quality of the cut but on the gentle demeanor and experience of the groomer. Months later, I am happy to report that Sabrina's fur has grown back beautifully and shows no effect from the cut. She also has adjusted beautifully to living in her new home; she's still a flight risk with strangers but at least she doesn't run from me anymore. read more
