My husband took me for an afternoon surprise. High tea in the Royal stewart dining room in the Prince of Wales Hotel in glacier national Park on the Canadian side. You start off with an introduction to there many selections of teas and you get to pick two of them to enjoy during your experience. We started off with two types of scones with jam that were delicious. After that, we were given a three tier tower of an assortment of sandwiches, cookies, and pastries that were all amazing. It was a true enjoyable experience. We sat overlooking a beautiful lake with the mountains in the background. My only negative comment would be the room we dinned in was very warm ( and drinking hot tea did not help) They had two little fans in the corner, not really blowing on anyone. Have High Tea in this dining room inside the historic prince of wales hotel. High Tea is a well-known daily event from 12pm-4pm. For $64 Canadian they serve a wide variety of teas as well as an assortment of sandwiches and sweets. You get to enjoy this, while overlooking upper Waterton lake, in the massive and gorgeous hotel with live piano being played. Lovely restaurant inside the Prince of Wales hotel in Waterton AB. Fabulous view over the lake so ask for a table near the windows. Very traditional and somewhat limited menu. Our group enjoyed bison tomahawk steak that served four. Also salmon and pork chops on offer. Service by numerous expat temporary workers, very friendly and forthcoming about their circumstances. One of the best breakfasts we've had in a long time! Even the coffee and water was excellent, but we had the full English breakfast and the prince of wales Benedict. Eggs and bacon were perfectly cooked to our order, the Benedict with brie and hollandaise was outstanding and even the beans and toast with jam was amazing. It definitely hit the spot before our day long drive to Banff, highly recommend...oh ya, the view can't be beat either, of course! read more

For dinner, we shared the trout nicoise and prairie bison, both of which were very thoughtfully created with outstanding ingredients and regional connection. The benedict with trout was a great start the next day. Prices were consistent with the quality and location. Compared to the nice restaurants at the park lodges in Glacier, this one goes for a slightly more formal feel, including some (very reasonable) guidance on dress and a description of each dish as it is presented. And for dinner, reservations are a must: it's small, they often don't seem to fill every table, and walk ups all seem to get directed to the lounge instead. read more

Went for High Tea with friends while visiting Glacier National Park. We made a day trip to Waterton to visit the lodge and decided to book tea. The lodge is beautiful and the views from the restaurant are phenomenal. If you're a party of 4 or more most of the tables are right next to the windows, if you're a group of 5 or more seating could be on the other half of the dining room but they're good at letting you know this at the time of booking. Our service was overseen by Sean. He educated us on the teas, the menu and the overall process. He was assisted by others throughout the experience and it was clear that they really focus on making it as seamless of an event as possible. We had piping hot water being refreshed constantly. It really seemed effortless for the team. Now it's a preset food menu of scones, biscuits (cookies for fellow Americans), pastries and finger sandwiches. And while it may look like just nibbles you will walk away fairly full!!! As for the tea, it was an educational presentation for me. Sean walked us through the offerings and even made some suggestions for positive pairings. They'll all source from Jolene's Teas in Banff, Canada. I tried the chia (excellent! Would keep that stocked at home constantly), the creamy earl grey, a strawberry green tea and the maple black tea. My favorites were the Chia tea, Chicken curry sandwiches, and the pistachio white chocolate biscotti! It was all wonderful and I really recommend booking the experience if you can. read more

Best restaurant of trip. Ate there twice, once for high tea and once for dinner. Best food by far. High tea was in the lounge. Pay for the upgrade to be by the window. Choice of tea, I took three different ones my wife took four. You get various pastries, sandwiches, and sweets. All excellent, though the cheesecake was the best. For dinner I had the pork and my wife had the trout. Easily the best pork dish I have ever had. The waitress said it was award winning and I believe her. Wonderful piece of meat topped with an au jus sauce. The prices were national park prices (high) but expected. Both the lounge and the dinning room have great decor reminding you of a European manor. They both have great views. The downside of the royal stewart was the service was spotty. It seemed the waitstaff tries to tagteam your meal, which leads to stretches where you feel ignored. Management should fix this. But the food was too good not to give this place a five. read more

I've debated about what to write about this meal. First, the food was exquisite for the most part, but we found a magenta hair in one entree (none of our party had magenta hair). The waiter was very kind and replaced the dish as quickly as possible. He didn't charge us for that entree and offered a complimentary dessert to the affected diner. All of which we greatly appreciated. Secondly, the restaurant is known for its beautiful views, but our table looked out to scaffolding. We were the second group to be seated for dinner service, and at the time, the restaurant was empty. We could have asked to be moved, and perhaps they would've obliged, but it felt awkward to ask. Third, the building is historic and understandably had no AC on a scorching August day. (Dress appropriately.) They did have a few portable fans, but with record-breaking heat, they didn't make much of a difference to anyone but the person closest to them. So it was the good and bad. Thus, three stars. I do feel like it's worth a visit. I'm sure without the hair, heat, and scaffolding, it would have been a five-star meal. read more

Such an experience. The Prince of Wales hotel is your entry point for this dining experience. You are greeted with floor to ceiling views of the lake below and the town of Waterton. We dined here for both the Tea and again for breakfast and dinner. The service was cordial, the environment relaxed, and the food was solid. Compared to other teas, this was generous. All was tasty. We enjoyed everything we had. My only disappointment was that the English breakfast had no bangers sausage, which to me, is the main component. The back bacon was quite good, so I got over it quickly. There is something about dining in a historic place that ramps up your star level, and this place is over 100 years old. Went to afternoon tea during our stay at Prince of Whales Hotel. We have done tea at a few other places where the experience was very stuffy. That was not the case here, and was probably the best afternoon tea we've had. Our server came by and went through the teas and explained the menu. We all picked our tea and then they brought out the trays of food. All of the food was amazing! They even brought out a complimentary dish of sandwiches for our small daughter to snack on. It was a very laid back experience and we left full but not too full which was nice since we had more exploring around Waterton to do. It was also very affordable $49 CAD a person. Place is extremely disappointing. Been here every time I have come to waterton and every time I leave disappointed. The service is always terrible and the food over priced. I have come for tea time both times and it's probably the worst tea time I have been to. I only come back here bc it has a beautiful view and Waterton has no other fancy fine dining options available. The food is good, passable but nothing great, unique or worth coming back for. Ther service is not the greatest and is very inconsistent. The atmosphere is trying to make it feel posh but its really just mediocre. In my opinion the place is only surviving bc its placement on the hill with outstanding views of Waterton for tourists to escape the extreme heat, wind, rain or bugs. I always tell myself I won't be back. But when your seeking refuge from the elements. U kinda get suckered in to this place. If you eat here, you been warned. During the time of COVID-19, breakfast service at the Royal Stewart Dining Room at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton was modified. Breakfast menu ordering sheet was available at the hotel reception. Order for breakfast should be filled and returned to the reception the evening before. Guests could choose from fixed times to receive their breakfast (7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM). I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and a quiche for 8:00 AM. The next morning, a large number of guests congregated at the lobby, where we learned that we would be served at the lobby and there would not be access to the dining room. We waited until 8:45, when breakfast take-out bags were finally delivered to everybody who had been waiting since 8:00 AM. The extremely long delay serving breakfast was unacceptable, especially considering that the orders were put in the evening before. I only received one small cream cheese pack for my bagel, which was not enough; two would had been more appropriate. The quiche was small and looked terrible, but at least tasted OK. I ate in the Windsor Lounge on 8/5/23. Shepherds Pie was dry as sawdust, asked for gravy, and was served what tasted like brown water thickened with corn starch. To make things worse, they charged me $1 for the thick brown water. My server's shift ended mid meal so he left without checking to see if I was enjoying my meal. A visit to the Prince of Wales hotel is one of the necessary stops if you're touring around Waterton. When I visited, I chose not to stay the night, as it's up on a hill and a not an easy walk to/from the lakeshore and the village townsite. But, the great news is that you can enjoy the beautiful hilltop views from their historic dining room. I dined here on a Monday night in the summer with a reservation, and there were a few other people in the dining room, but it was quite quiet. The menu is available online, but expect upscale dining here, with a small menu featuring different protein options (including one vegetarian dish). I did see things like nachos, burgers and poutine heading out to the lounge area, so if that's more your style I would recommend the lounge. I ordered the trout and it was excellent. The fish was tender, well flavored, and the accompanying potatoes and pea puree were a perfect compliment to the dish. My only complaint is that I wanted to eat more! I also tried their chocolate mousse cake for dessert, and it was super rich. Our server recommended sharing the dessert, which was good advice. The service throughout the meal was attentive and our server was a delight. It was an expensive meal overall with wine and drinks, but I really enjoyed it, and would highly recommend this restaurant for a quiet respite from the wonderful outdoorsy vibe that is the rest of Waterton. read more
