Very underrated for being in a national park! The arugula burrata salad and pasta al pesce both left me wanting to remake them at home (in a good way; they were better than any of my previous attempts!). There was a lot of heavy cream on the menu, but that's a minority objection that I know most people don't share. For our chosen dishes, the overall vibe was contemporary Californian, which is a pretty unusual vibe to walk into without a reservation, and did I mention it's within a national park? By comparison on the USA side, Many Glacier Hotel's restaurant is perfectly fine and quite scenic but it doesn't hold a candle to this place, whose food I'd actually be willing to eat again in a regular city with competition. We walked in without the reservation and the kind hostess was able to squeeze us in. We were so thankful because almost all shops were closed for the season, and the restaurant and pub in our hotel said we will have to wait about 2 hours to be able to order. The wait staffs here (only 2) were ultra busy because the restaurant got full pretty fast. However, they were both friendly, helpful, and attentive. We ordered some ales, bison lasagna, hamburger, and tiramisu. Bison lasagna was very delicious, and hamburger was one of the best I had in a long time. Tiramisu was also delicious, maybe not the traditional flavour, but still very good. I will easily go back here next time I am in Waterton! Thank you so much for such a great service! read more

Had dinner for two on a Monday night (9/8/25). The Trattoria had probably 6-7 tables being served. We were seated immediately upon arrival, we had 6:30 resv., and our waiter (Brandon I believe) was quite attentive to our needs. We split a Caesar salad and had two entrees (seafood pasta and a beef ravioli) all the items were excellent !! My husband and I dined here on a quiet Sunday night with our 5 year old son. There is no kid menu, but we ordered the spaghetti with truffle cream sauce and meatballs and he loved it. Obviously it was a generous portion for a kid, but my husband and I were able to enjoy a taste as well and it just meant that we could take it to go to enjoy as leftovers. For appetizers, we ordered the mussels and clams, arancini, and marinated olives. Portions were generous and everything was seasoned perfectly. If you like garlic, you will enjoy both the mussels and the olives appetizers, as they each come with plenty of tenderly sweet roasted whole garlic cloves, perfect for smushing and spreading on top of the grilled bread that comes with the dishes. After so many appetizers, I wanted just a simple pasta. I ended up ordering the gnocchi based on the server's recommendation. It was delicious. However, with the richness of the appetizers, I think I would have enjoyed the arrabbiata instead, as after a few bites of the gnocchi with the cream sauce, it was all a bit too much. It would probably be a great second course after the Sicilian meatballs to start, or the prawns. My husband had the wagyu ravioli, which was very delicious; the glacé de viande added sweetness to the earthy truffle and mushrooms. It was also quite a rich dish. Both of our plates were generously portioned. We packed everything to go since we have a refrigerator in our small lodge, and it's just a short drive back Calgary. For dessert, we ordered the tiramisu. I agree with another reviewer in that it's not traditional, more like cake rather than ladyfingers, but the flavours were still nice. Our server was new (it was just his second day) and he was attentive, personable, and knew the menu well. Overall, it was a lovely meal and the prices are justifiable, as everything was great. This restaurant is in one of the hotels right next to our lodge inside Waterton Park. It's elegant and upscale. Small dining room with about a dozen tables for 2-4 people. Nice simple decor with light colored furniture, large black and white landscape photos adorn one of the walls. Service is good and attentive. Food is amazing. Only complaint is it is rather pricy but worth the splurge. We had salad, salmon, garlic shrimps, sautéed green beans, and tiramisu. It's our best meal so far in our 2 week trip on the road. read more

It was a really good find. They had space for us luckily because we didn't have reservations and the place on a Friday night was packed. Service was prompt, friendly, and helpful. Our waterglasses were full and our server was great at asking what we needed. We each chose a pasta. Me the seafood linguini and my hubby the spaghetti. We decided on the arrichini to split. Everthing was amazing. Arrichini perfectly cooked the truffle added to the dish. My linguini was delicous and the seafood was not overcooked which I often have issues with. But the big surprise was my husband's spaghetti. I normally would not order such a meaty dish but I tried his sauce and it was amazing. The only thing was that because it is hooked onto a hotel it was totally lacking atmosphere. And If I am paying close to 30 bucks for pasta, maybe it would be nice to eat it in a more pleasant dining area. All in and all we would go again. And next time I am ordering the spaghetti. read more

I did speak with the management team and restaurant staff and they did not realize that you felt insulted as they were busy setting up and were confused why you left. We have minimal staff in the winter and as it was the family day long weekend they were busy preparing the restaurant. It is hard to set the restaurant up when guests are seated and we are not ready for them. That should have been clearly explained so there was no confusion and you were not made to feel insulted, i am so sorry for the confusion and we will learn from this experience. I would like to say that the owner is South Asian and in the hotel we have every ethnicity working for our company, there is no racism in our organization so that is an unfair assumption to jump to. Also , if you felt there was racism, i am surprised you chose to come back with a review using ageism. The perceived age of our manager should have no bearing on your experience. I suggest you think about that in your next review as i found using "senior citizen" very insulting to all of us. Although you did not eat with us, you felt the need to post a negative review on Yelp, Facebook , google and TripAdvisor. Okay food, nice enough staff, okay service, underwhelming experience--especially for the price. The selection of food is good but for the price they charge you definitely don't get a good bang for your buck. It does have a good selection of wine but, again, not for the price charged. We were more than happy to pay a premium for this somewhat nicer restaurant as that's what we were looking for but was disappointed when the small portions/mediocre food/high prices were also met with only okay service. We have eaten here previously when we visited a few summers ago and enjoyed it greatly so we expected the same this year but unfortunately was left disappointed. They had some struggles the night we ate here. OK, the wait for my reservation might have had something to do with covid, we were glad for the eventual spacing. blame COVID, like Yelp wants me to do. But that doesn't explain the food. I ordered a cauliflower starter that was good. My main was supposed to be a salmon picatta with a side of the clam pasta; what showed up was a grilled piece of salmon, not a picatta cooked with butter and capers, plopped on top of the clam pasta, with the capers and peas all mixed together, making for a mix of green things. The flavors conflicted a bit, My date ordered a pasta e fagioli which tasted more like a bolognese with beans. They had some troubles with our wine, and were out of cannolis. Meh. read more

We enjoyed dinner at Red Rock Trattoria. Some choices like the fried cauliflower appetizer were fantastic. The misto salad was so-so. Entree choices were delicious. The prices are decent considering the portion size. I'd say that service and pacing could be improved. Utensils and dishes weren't swapped out, which is pretty much expected with three separate courses. Timing was way off; we were served the second course before finishing the first. Three courses were served and we were finished with our gourmet meal in less than an hour. Others around us were served as quickly. The restaurant was about half full, so it wasn't as if they needed to turn over the tables. With a few tweaks, it could easily be a five star experience. read more

We were here for a brief holiday in early April, and made a reservation here. Unfortunately, we arrived the day after Covid lockdowns were reintroduced. Even though our reservation was obviously cancelled, we went ahead and ordered the take out version to have in our hotel room. Very friendly staff, and our order was ready within 30min. The food was trulyexcellent, despite being in plastic containers. We shared the cauliflower appy, with the bison lasagna and chicken saltimboca as main courses. Large portions, and super tasty. Well the waitress was fast the service is slow. The restaurant does not deserve a foreign a half star rating. My wife had the rigatoni with lamb and was extremely disappointed with it because there was almost no lamb in it and what lamb was there was fat. I have mixed reviews about this place, and would have given it a 3.5 if that was an option. It was recommended by some locals, but if I knew A) how pricey it is, and B) that it's probably the least toddler friendly restaurant in town, we would have went somewhere more affordable/casual. Food was pretty good, but a little underwhelming when looking at the price. The service was excellent for the most part, though we were a little surprised to find out that when given the option of water or carbonated water, that we were agreeing to buy a full bottle for $12.50. Otherwise, our server was extremely accommodating, and friendly with our toddler. But it would have been helpful to let us know that the carbonated water wasn't free, or at least let us know that we're stuck with an entire bottle. They sat us next to the fireplace, which was on for some strange reason considering it was +20 outside. This left us sweating before we even looked at the menu. She did turn it off eventually, but the damage was done. If my wife's inner thighs are gonna be warm, damp and sweaty, it should be my fault. Discovered this little gem thanks to Yelp. Bottom line: best restaurant in the village. Service was top-notch - friendly and attentive (and we have an adult son with special gifts and needs, and Katrina checked in with him regularly to see how he was doing - A+ from him and his parents ). Food was fantastic - we highly recommend the gnocchi, the bison lasagna, the Sicilian flatbread and the seafood fettuccine. Tiramisu and gelato for afters were perfect. Located just off the 'beaten path' of the lakefront in the Waterton Glacier Suites. We couldn't have found a better place to end an amazing vacation in Alberta.
