Average food but friendly service! Meatloaf was decent sized with lots of gravy. The butter and sour cream came in little takeout containers even though I was dining in. The steak sandwich is more so steak on toast. Not sure if they make their own fries as they look like the frozen ones, but it tasted ok. I don't think I've ever left a bad review of a place I haven't eat at but I needed to leave this note for others and there's no way to do that without leaving stars and im not giving them more stars than my conscious can handle right now. First: this place has no restrooms available to you even if you are a customer. I wasn't a customer, but a customer did ask where I heard the whole thing. They were told by the waitress there was no public restroom for their child to use. Second: Having our dog in tow, and the outdoor seating being taken by people who were just lounging, we opted to get our meals to take with us. No "to-go" orders except on pizza. Because, you know, the whole world can eat that. So, me being the type of person who believes the rest of the world believes in spreading kindness as much as I do, I asked the lady if she could recommend anywhere in town that does offer to-go food similar to theirs. She told me "just go to one of the other places in town" in a very unkind way. If you don't know any, please just state that instead of making it obvious that you just don't want to help someone get food they can actually eat. For those in a similar situation, I went to Vimy's. It's not far from the place and does take-out. We're a family of 7 so when we eat out it is at least $150 each time. We gladly gave this money to a place that respected us. Funny thing: I would've gotten my family the pizza and myself something somewhere else if she had just been polite. Instead, we got me a burger from Vimy's and the family spend $70 on pizza somewhere else. Saved us some money, ultimately, since we were all going to get meals from here and our estimated total was $166. Not everyone in the world can eat pizza and I don't give money to places who treat people like this. read more

Used to come here for the beef stew and tried the burgers today... so bad to be honest food was ready in like 3 minutes which was concerning. It was tasteless (less than McDonald's) and no difference noted between "bison" and beef burger. Horrible place to *try* to eat at. We go there with our 8 month old son and have a clip on highchair, after we are seated they advise us they don't allow Clip on highchairs because it wrecks their vinyl on the table (which by the way is just cheap a** vinyl). We even have a silicon mat that goes on the table in which would not wreck their tables. So we say ok no problem, do you have a high chair then? And they proceed to tell us they do not have highchairs. So essentially we had to leave because there was no where for our baby to eat!! What kind of establishment doesn't allow you to use your own highchairs but then doesn't provide a highchair!! Absolutely HORRIBLE. They also said they didn't care when we told them we would be giving them a bad review. Staff said "go ahead", so here we are! read more

Everything in town is winding down for the end of the season. Trappers Mountain Grill was still open and we had a great meal. They didn't have gluten-free items marked on the menu, but they do state on the menu that they offer gluten-free bread. Our server was knowledgeable about gluten-free items that were available. My wife had a gluten-free meal. I had the meat loaf which was delicious! It was tender, moist, and had a tasty smoked flavor. It was served with a baked potato, green beans, and a soft roll. This restaurant is inside Waterton Park. In a small town or a place with couple blocks of shops. But of course this is a resort area location so prices tend to be higher. I came here and got their Canadian Horseradish Burger. So I learned if it doesn't say its made from Alberta beef then its not made from Alberta beef. Yes the Canadian Horseradish Burger is made out of Trappers own Alberta Beef Patty. Wow it was very delicious. Tasty. The bun was fresh. I got it with sweet yam fries for an extra $4. I don't recommend substituting it. For $4 is not worth it plus the fries were a bit soggy. I substitute one of the side for extra slaw. I hate beans. Overall, it was a good meal. The décor is very Canadian (traditional or typical) looking. I like it. When I left I wanted to take a picture sitting in one of the two rocking chairs out front. But a grandpa and a grandma was sitting in it. Well they did look like the typical Canadian cliché. Darn have to go back for that picture (not right to ask them get off chair for me to take a picture). Well I don't mind since I do like this restaurant. Good place for a small town. Has mountain appropriate decor and the friendliest staff. They had great tips on hiking and wildlife. Everyone ordered pizza, bison burgers, beef burgers, fish and chips, and bison chili. Everyone was pleased with their food but the favorites were the gravy with the fries and the fish and chips. The five of us ate here for dinner on the last night of our two night stay in Waterton. Bro in law wanted BBQ so why not? Dinner prices are on the high side. He & my sis shared a dinner plate. Hubby got the bison steak at $50 CAD. He thoroughly enjoyed it. I got the bison 1/2 rack dinner special. Came with coleslaw, mashed potatoes, and cornbread. Bisons are big animals; hence big ribs. I liked them but not loved them. I prefer pork spareribs; but when in Canada, gotta try something local. The best part of the restaurant was the décor. Bears, deer, foxes, other wildlife, etc. all placed strategically throughout the restaurant. It really made you feel like you were dining in the great outdoors. Not a "tourist trappers." Surprisingly outstanding BBQ. We Had burnt ends of Brisket as an appetizer. Perhaps the most flavorable and moistest brisket I've ever had. I was walking around Waterton trying to decide where to have lunch, and the smokehouse aroma of Trappers convinced me to give it a shot. I'm glad I did - great BBQ, and good service. The menu is mostly sandwiches and steaks. The BBQ section is small, but they take it seriously. My half-rack of ribs and smoked wings were tender and smoky, not oversauced or overdone. The sauce was vinegary and tasted house-made. The coleslaw, beans and fries on the side were decent. My only complaint about this place is the prices. My plate alone was $35, and I opted not to get a 22-oz beer ($14) or a 22-oz draught cider ($17!). Stopped into Trappers after a long drive up through Glacier National Park and into Canada for a stay in Waterton. We loved the immediate friendly greeting and were placed into a large, spacious booth that was well appointed with comfortable cushions and a nice view of the downtown street in Waterton Village. Shelby was our server and she was a delight. A talkative local, she was more than willing to chat us up and tell us about the area's history, some "insider tips" from a local and delivered 5-star service. The beer selection was awesome and their claim to have the "coldest beer in town" did not disappoint. Ice-chilled mugs paired with many local craft beers on the menu was a welcome sight after the drive into the Great White North. I enjoyed the grilled chicken club and my guest liked her grilled ham & cheese. There were plenty of crunchy french fries as well as some tasty side cups of cole slaw and baked beans. We were treated well and never rushed. I'd definitely recommend Trappers when you're visiting Waterton Village. Tell Shelby we said hello! read more

Went into this place for food after a long day of golf to grab some food.my father in-law orders a steak sandwich. Which he did not receive his steak sauce for the sandwich. He finished his whole plate, still waiting for the steak sauce. Myself, I was needing water just being out on the course all day and I only got a refill of water when I was done my food. We also had a group of 11, regards to their gratitude charge. We only seen the waiter at our table 3 times. too have a guaranteed gratitude. it's giving their server a incentive to only check on your table bare minimum. Worst service, we ever had. Trappers is situated in a convenient spot in a beautiful little resort town. I totally adored the decor of the restaurant, the buffalo plaid, the wood and the animals were perfect for the location. And even the plates were bear themed. The food was good, but nothing out of the ordinary and I felt it was overpriced at $95 for burgers and chicken strips (for 4). There was a 30 minute wait, but the attached gift shop made the time pass quickly. read more

Go here! We absolutely loved Trappers. So much so that we went back for breakfast the next morning. Breakfast was equally good. A few thoughts to pass along: 1) The food is outstanding. Each member of our group RAVED about their meals. 2) The staff were among the friendliest we encountered during our vacation and their service was timely and attentive. 3) The decor was warm and inviting. 4) We felt that prices were quite reasonable. Not a super busy spot which is nice when you're looking to chill after hike / ski. Next door sits a small reception area which appeared to host a wedding during our stay. Loved this place. Our party of 8 showed up in town without a plan, and needed a place to eat. A guy on the street recommended this place, so in we went, and had a great meal. With eight people, they were able to seat us surprisingly quickly, there was something on the menu for everyone. The beer was good, too. One minor issue in that my friend's allergy-specific instructions weren't conveyed to the chef properly and he had a bad reaction to the food later in the day. read more

After completing a 10-mile hike from Ghost Haunt, Montana to Waterton, Alberta on an unusually hot day, we were badly in need of a cold beer and good food. Strolled into town and looked at several menus. This place was a little kitschy (think bear carvings and knick-knacks on the walls), but the word "bison" on the menu immediately lit up our eyes. The staff were super friendly and attentive. The portions are huge so my wife and I shared the bison steak (medium-rare) with seasonal veg and potato. The food was phenomenal and the beer was ice cold. We'll be back next time we're camping in Waterton. read more

Place gets the 4th star for service along, to be honest the food was fairly simple but for lunch was exactly what was needed. Came in needing a quick turnaround as we had an appointment in 40 minutes, I informed the waitress who promised to rush our order. I did not time it, but felt like she had our chicken sandwhiches out in 5 minutes, absolutely incredible. She also had our bill ready as soon as we got our food so we could eat and get moving. My blue cheese burger was so tasty all conversation at our table abruptly halted as soon as the first bite entered my mouth. The grill styled food in general was very tasty. The staff was maybe the best part. I don't remember her name but there is a certain waitress that should be made a manager because she was so awesome. I have never had a worse experience at a restaurant. I wish I could give zero stars. The food was terrible. My boyfriend and I went while hiking in Waterton as it looked like a quaint touristy place to go. I ordered a quesadilla. The place was dead as it was a rainy weekend. The food took a very long time to arrive and once our meals arrived my quesadilla looked like a saggy sopping mess. I took about 10+ minutes for the waitress to check on us. When I showed her my quesadilla she took it back and in place I ordered some type of a hot brisket sandwich with gracy... can't mess that up right? Wrong. It was cold and it was pretty much all fat and cart ledge. It was really gross. So my boyfriend ate his meal alone and we waited 20+ more minutes for a second awful meal to come out for me to eat alone. The server brought us the bill with FULL charges for the food. We were so disappointed, we asked to speak to a manager/owner. Normally by this point a manager would have apologized and compt at least one meal, if not both. No one came to speak to us, we were directed to speak to an old lady working the til. When we got to the older woman (unsure if she was an owner/manager/etc) she began yelling at the top of her lungs at us to just leave the restaurant. I have never been so disrespected and treated so poorly by any person working at or owning a restaurant in my life. She screamed at us that their food was amazing and we could remove our selfish selves from the restaurant. We were absolutely shocked and stood there in shock trying to figure out how anyone working at a restaurant could behave this way towards a kind couple looking for a poor meal removed from the bill. We still offered to pay for our drinks and his meal. Appalled by her behavior, we felt terrible for the young female server working for this woman. We attempted to give her a tip and we were yelled at out of the restaurant. We have told all of our friends in Calgary about this woman and this awful restaurant. We will NEVER return here and will warn people of the way we were treated here. read more

Charming interior if you love plaid-which I do, its in my Scottish genes. Our waitress was cute and perky and used the phrase "fer sure" in every sentence-the new "OK, like..." for young people. Now I realize it's Canada (and it is ASTOUNDINGLY beautiful!) and the American dollar is strong-but it "fer sure" knocked me for a loop when I looked at the prices! My husband and I shared an order of sweet potato poutain-a speciality of the region. Take sweet potato fries, melt cheese curds on it and ladle on brown gravy. I know it sounds iffy and it's really very tasty-we cleaned the plate! AND-it was $13+!!! My Granddaughter (age 12) got a sirloin steak with fries, some sort of salad and a piece of toast for $36!!! This is NOT a four or five star restaurant! I do have to admit that I had been spoiled on this vacation by my son's cooking-and yet-I did enjoy other places much more than this. The $18 southwestern salad is a sparse serving of iceberg lettuce with some shredded cheese, a couple slivers of tomato, and large chunks of chicken tucked into a stale taco shell. When I asked if I could sub a veggie burger for the chicken since I am vegetarian, I was told that the best they could do was leave off the chicken but make no substitution. I hope everyone will click on the negative reviews to this restaurant before deciding to go here because they really do treat their customers like everyone says...TERRIBLE!!! Our experience at Trapper's Mountain Grill in Waterton Canada was definitely one I'll remember, and it wasn't a good one! I have never been treated so rudely at a restaurant in all my life. My husband and I ordered a full rack of ribs with fries and asked the waitress if it was okay to sub sweet potato fries instead of regular fries, she said sure that's fine. When we got the bill there was like an extra five dollar charge for the sweet potato fries. When we mentioned it to the waitress she was sweet and said oh I'm sorry that was my fault for not mentioning an extra charge and I can probably just take that off the bill. When she went to ask the boss he told her NO. We mentioned it to him when we went up to pay and he said "IF YOU ATE IT, YOU PAY FOR IT"! His tone and demeanor was so rude, we couldn't believe it! He then proceeded to yell at my husband and say "HEY LISTEN BUDDY, DON'T RAISE YOUR VOICE AT ME"! We were dying because my husband did not raise his voice in the least and had just told him to go ahead and run his card. I came home and told my daughter about our experience there and she proceeded to look up the reviews on this restaurant and it's obvious that we were not the only customers that were treated so rudely. They obviously have terrible customer service and could care less about friendliness or returning customers. Their food was not good and the proportion size was extremely small for the high price you pay. Save yourself from a bad experience and go somewhere else! read more
