For starter a had a very nice starter called Bocconcini Di Pancetta, which is baby mozzarella wrapped in parma ham and pan fried with caramelized red onion on a bed of rocket. It was amazing although you don't get that much it's well worth the money! also the garlic bread is very nice as well. I had a calzone pizza for main course, if you don't know what it is it is: a pizza folded once in half with the filling inside with a rich tomato sauce on the top served with some rocket. once again amazing! there are three different choices of fillings for the calzone there is: Mozzarella and Tomato, Bolognaise and Mozzarella, Chicken And Parma Ham. to be honest the chicken and parma ham is the best of the three. Are are many different dishes like pasta, chicken, risotto etc.... Great service and friendly staff not a long wait to order or receive the food and drink. Toilets nice and mostly spacious.

As you enter the restaurant it is hard to not be impressed with the classy decoration of the restaurant. The restaurant never seems to be busy and lacks atmosphere. Although the food is good, it is not exceptional. So I would conclude that the food does not necessarily match the prices charged. The staff were extremely polite and the service was second to none, but I would prefer to try the alternative Italian restaurant up the hill.

Thanks, Adam! Wandering the streets after sightseeing, I let Yelp lead me to a top rated…read morerestaurant. I was not even slightly disappointed because Akbar's is an excellent curry house. Even though I walked in at 5:15, they were happy to see me and brought me to a table near the window. The menu was a bit strange - a solidly laminated sheet - but it had all the usual curries that I've come to expect in this country. And so instead of going with the usual, I let my eye choose. I started with the Liver Tikka. I've never had this before and I would recommend it. Not at all "livery", three good sized pieces arrived on a sizzling plate with some sauteed onions and a bowl of mint sauce. Th mint was a big help because this was seriously hot. Not spicy hot, temperature hot. Wow! For mains, the "handi" was listed as 'just like we have it at home' on the menu so I thought I'd give that a try. I chose lamb instead of chicken. It took about ten minutes (the waiter warned me it would be 15) and I also opted for two chapati to go with it. Again, very hot coming from the kitchen and it had a whole lot of flavor and spice, but it wasn't "hot" spicy just really tasty. Lots of small pieces of lamb in a sauce that is beyond description. Let's just say that it was excellent and the chapati was perfect for scooping. No dessert, but the cold bottle of Kingfisher was perfect (first time in a bottle, it's usually draft). A great meal!

After a week of pub grub and clichéd British food, it was time for some curry. Yelp to the rescue!…read more We found Akbars just a few blocks from the train station, so it made a good stop after the National Railway Museum. I thought the dishes were fine quality, tasty and not too spicy. Good prices and good portions, suitable for sharing. Loved the atmosphere, with low lighting from chandeliers with red highlights and lounge music. It seemed more modern and hip than a standard Indian joint. The crowd was a mix of small groups of businessmen and tourists, with a few families like us.

Ahhh The Bombay... or Th Bo bay as the sign currently reads…read more It's quite a small restaurant with a function room on the first floor which will seat a group of about 40. I hadn't been here for a couple of years and recently took a date there in February. I looked forward it's cosy, little candle lit booths and was disappointed to see that they had redesigned the interior to a more contemporary looking restaurant. It looks nice but I think it's lost it's romantic, authentic Indian atmosphere. I wasn't enamoured with the service either to be honest. The waiters weren't rude but they didn't seem very interested in good service. On the plus side the food is great! Delicious and a wide choice on the menu. I thought the price was ok too: free poppadums with dips, 2 x mains and a couple of sides with drinks was about £40. If you're looking for good Indian food and are going with a friend who isn't looking for great service, then I would definately recommend giving it a go for the good food.

Don't…read morego if your idea of Indian food is eye wateringly hot chicken phal, nor if you like blood red Tikka Massala. This is, to its loyal and discerning followers, by a considerable distance the best Indian food that you will find in Leicester. Family run, by a gujarati family displaced from Kenya more than 30 years ago, it conforms to the highest standards. I have been going there for 15 years and can say, with total honesty, that I have never had a bad meal. With the wonderfully courteous Dinesh looking after the 40 cover restaurant, which has been recently fully refurbished, and brother Ashok masterminding the cooking, a visit is more akin to a visit to an exclusive dining club than your regular curry house. Meat, fish and vegetarian options are imaginatively and stylishly prepared and served, and Ashok will happily cook to order if your particular favourite is not on the extensive menu. This place does not get awards, or feature in guides because it doesn't need to. The do not need to solicit cheap publicity. Beloved by Leicester's Indian and English communities alike, it is a good idea to book because it can be packed - and not always only on Friday and Saturday. I cannot recommend highly enough, because if you want a truly high quality meal (not the cheapest, but that should not be an issue) then this is the one. With starters, sweets and a few beers, it can run to thirty or forty pounds a head. But it is money well spent.
