Tucked in a back corner off of the food court, there's a great little chocolate shop. For its limited space, this Royce dealer has a lot to offer. I've looked at it plenty of times previously, but finally decided to buy something, I was really craving sweets. They have quite a variety of chocolates- cookies, bars, matcha, nuts, chips and more. We purchased the chocolate covered potato chips and a milk chocolate bar. Both were delicious. The chips were not too salty but still crispy. I was impressed. The chocolate is so silky smooth and not overly sweet like most milk chocolate bars in the world US. The employee was super nice and apologized like five times for the wait, even though I didn't think it was too long. The customer ahead of us was purchasing quite a lot for gifts so I think he thought he was taking too long to assist her. Either way, great experience overall. Loveeeee this cute little chocolate shop located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace! First off I want to say the staff here is incredible. Lindsey was beyond personable, helpful, and friendly. She was great at explaining their chocolate. Their chocolate here is superb. It's so different, unique, and quality. The chocolate chip potato chips are absolutely delicious. What differentiates them is their international chocolate that you cannot find anywhere else! Their truffles fell apart in my mouth - incredibly delicious. Everything is fairly priced for the quality, too. I will 100% come back here again. Went to the store today after work to get some chocolate I did get a sample of one and the Proceeded to buy it. It I do love the nama chocolate it is like a velvet smooth texture in your mouth with a bold statement in flavor. If you like machata the chocolate wafer machata is a elegant gentle flavor and yummy treat. There is definitely no bad thing it all in your flavor profile. I like others have preferences. Mine is dark chocolate. So that is my flavor preference and mild distinctive flavors are my choice. I don't like overpowering, and most of these chocolates have kind of that gentle subtle flavor that is perfect. I did not take my own pictures as I like to eat my chocolate lol. I never appreciated higher end chocolate, let alone anything that's just more expensive. I saw ROYCE in a kdrama, and had to see what the fuss was about. Located in Mitsuwa Marketplace, I was offered samples to try, and I was blown away by the quality of the chocolates. They have sweet, semi-sweet, and dark chocolates all with different flavors. Yes, you'll be paying a premium for these chocolates, but you'll be hard pressed having anything as decadent and unique as ROYCE. I got Nama chocolate Islay Whisky (Port Charlotte), which is made with milk chocolate and fresh cream. It's infused with whisky from Scotland, and this is something I've been having one bite of as a special treat because I don't want to run out! Luxurious chocolate company from Hokkaido, Japan. The chocolates are not too sweet. After that first bite, your mouth will be craving for more. The associate is very nice and gives you a detailed history of the chocolate. Remember to ask for free samples. Prices are on the higher end. They do have an assortment with different packaging. The one I got was $29. Definitely worth buying if it's for yourself or a gift to someone. After you walk in the main entrance, turn left past the mochi place, and head straight ahead. Royce chocolates was absolutely delicious and the customer service was amazing! Unfortunately, they close a bit early in the day and being an hour away I was cutting it close to closing time. I called ahead and the employee was so kind to leave my goodies for me to pick up when I get there! She even wrote a small handwritten note and threw in some samples. Those milk chocolates man... they hit different. Flavorful but small, it packs a punch with intensity. I also purchased the tiramisu wafers and WOW I loved it. The hint of coffee combined with the chocolate and the delicate wafer was perfectly balanced. Their shop is located in the Mitsuwa Marketplace. Hands down some of the best chocolate out there, high end and specialty curated. You'll have to come see for yourself. I was given samples on this trip by a Royce employee, and she shared background knowledge about the history and what makes their chocolates unique. She was very knowledgeable and friendly, and I appreciate the samples of their newest flavor the matcha potato chips, a piece of their Nama bitter chocolate with chocolate liquor in it, and I also had a piece of their matcha wafer chocolate. Another thing I love about the experience is that it's tailored to my preference of whether I prefer milk or dark chocolate. From there, she made recommendations and it's exactly how she described it to be. I'm so excited to try the Venezuelan bitter chocolate disks, the cacao is from Venezuela, but made in Japan and she said that it's going to taste like dark chocolate but not super bitter which is perfect. It's a great experience overall. I ended up getting a pack of the Nama bitter chocolate to go, and she wrapped it up perfectly with dry ice as it requires refrigeration. You have a 5 hour window to make it home to a fridge. It's a boutique that's inside of the Mitsuwa Marketplace -- my kind of grocery store that specializes in Asian and international goods. It was pretty easy to find as the layout was split between boutiques on one side, food court, and then the actual grocery store itself. There's plenty of free parking on premise. I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for specialty curated chocolate, it's high end and totally worth it! My friend introduced Royce to me a couple years back and I am so excited to learn that I don't have to go to Japan to purchase these delectable chocolates! I got a little bit turned around inside Mitsuwa with the store cordoned off to help with the flow of traffic. Royce is located next to Lady M. Couple things I did not know is that Royce chocolates are made fresh and kept refrigerated. The expiration date on the back of the box is about a month out. So, I just purchased a box of chocolates on 11/22, it expires at the end of December. No worries! We will finish that box probably within the week. I also appreciate the small attention to detail. The person that helped us put the chocolate in a sleeve with an ice pack. Nice!! At around $20 a box for 20 squares of chocolate, it may not be cheap but you will enjoy every delicious bite! Royce chocolates is the bougie kind of chocolate you hide from the kids and hoard all to yourself! If you are ever at Mitsuwa you should check out Royce and treat yo' self to a box at least once. The sales associate convinced me to buy the Au Lait Nama Chocolates, of course their more expensive chocolate brand! $18 for a 4.4 oz box-ouch! The Nama Chocolate is a super smooth, melt in your mouth chocolate and it really didn't disappoint! The milk chocolate/cream squares were dusted in cocoa powder and super decadent; I savored each bite. They package the delicate box of chocolates in a Royce insulated bag and a mini Royce ice pack since they need to stay cool-very nice! I agree with another Yelper that it's hard to get the "special boutique" experience at this location since it's back by the food court. Also, they can't give samples to everyone especially those who have absolutely no intention of buying-just at Royce because they are waiting for their ramen/food court order lol! My coworker told me that Royce chocolate is famous in Japan, but I've never heard of them before. But I trust her opinion because she is a foodie. ;-) So I made a special trip out to Mitsuwa to buy a box of expensive chocolates. The Nama chocolate seemed to be the best option, so I got a box of milk chocolate because it was made with Hokkaido cream. Yum! The girl behind the counter packaged it up real nice with a little ice pack, a special cooling bag, and a plastic bag with a handle to put everything in. Excessive packaging, so Japanese. ;-) I got home and discovered.... alas, I had accidentally gotten the white chocolate instead of the milk chocolate! The sign in the store was in the wrong place. Oh well. I do like white chocolate, and it was very yummy. Creamy and sweet with a great sense texture that still melted in my mouth. So rich and decadent. I liked the little toothpick skewer that came with the box. Perfect to stab each little soft square of chocolate to pop into my mouth. With tax, the tiny box cost about $20. I like when chocolate/candy/pastry shops have an atmosphere of fun, contained delights; this location is more utilitarian like a duty free shop, very stop and go. I first got introduced to Royce chocolates by my ex-boss, who frequently flew to Japan to grab a few boxes. I'm not a huge deserts person, let alone chocolates. But I'll have a good few pieces of dark chocolates here and there in times my body craves them. (I was always told that if the body asks for it, you should have it since it's probably trying to tell you something) At first they didn't go into too much details on products themselves, except to tell us that because of the way they're made they will liquify if they're not refrigerated at all times. I've not read up on them to know that they're basically mixture of high quality cacao and cream. And they are amazing! What helps is that they don't have the usual overly sweet flavors your average over-the-counter chocolates have. When I do chocolates, I like to do dark because I don't care too much for the sweetness, but rather appreciate the bitterness of cacao. Royce does it excellent, especially because one of their signature item is a matcha (green tea) chocolate. Now, as for the store itself.. it has to be pretty new, since I've visited Mitsuwa a dozen times over the years and didn't find them until now. I'm briefing through the reviews and seeing Feb. '17 to be the first review, but I'm glad it's here. (For generally obvious reason,) my wife is a huge fan, which makes me a huge fan, if you know what I mean... ;-) The Japanese lady at the counter was very nice, informative, had almost boutique-ey facade to her from the way she talked and to the way she dressed. You can definitely tell the "luxury" feel of the product from everything they had going, despite the tiny corner of the terrible back location inside Mitsuwa -- all the way in the back, tucked away behind the food court. It's certainly not the cheapest of chocolates. I think I paid something closed to $50 for a couple small boxes of chocolates. If you're somewhat of a chocolate addict, it would not be the best route to get used to Royce. Have you ever seen a Korean drama and seen the people eating chocolate from a "toothpick" looking thing and wondered who eats chocolate like that? Well, evidently the Japanese..and now Koreans... and of course us in the U.S! I only knew about Royce Chocolates from K-drama. And I didn't realize they had US locations until I saw them first in Las Vegas. At their Las Vegas location the attendants were a bit scatter brained and their attention to customers is not very good. Obviously they stayed with some way too long and didn't even acknowledge others. I was going to buy some anyway in Las Vegas until I found out they had THIS location in Chicago. Wha? A short car ride to this chocolate? YAY, I'm in. It's a SMALL little boutique location - not like those found in K-dramas but it will do. It has the chocolates you need and you can get it home quick. I like their traditional nama chocolate. Melts in the mouth and so delish. My parents and I practically ate the whole box during one movie. Tried this chocolate a few years ago when my friend brought it from New York. Every time I go to New York or at the Japan airport (where it's half of the price), I will stock a few packs of these. So excited that they are now in chicago. I like the Nama Chocolate that has a layer of truffle powder outside and melts in your mouth. This chocolate has to be kept cold with ice packet. They have a few flavors to choose from and I like the green boxed - port Charlotte. They also have some chocolates that have lower price point and does not require freezing. Wow. My friends and I had just finished a trip to Mitsuwa, and didn't come across Royce until the very last minute. I had been standing around waiting for everyone to finish their purchases and the Royce stand caught my eye. I wandered over and was met by an associate neatly dressed in a suit who offered me a sample of their signature Au Lait chocolate. It was literally a melt-in-your-mouth experience, and I instantly wanted a box of the chocolate. They even won over my husband, and he is not a sweet tooth. We happily bought a box and have been slowly eating our way through each decadent piece. What's even more interesting is that per the associate, Royce sources all their milk and cream from the Hokkaido region in Japan. In order to keep the chocolate at it's freshest they will pack a small ice pack with your purchase in order to keep it cool on the ride home. Amazing.
