No longer in the same building as when I last visited, but this candy shop is still full of sweet treats including cranberry "Myrtles" (like Turtles), chocolate covered strawberries, and apple goodies for Apple Fest. For a decadent treat in Long Grove, stop in the red schoolhouse for something sweet!

If you like buying chocolates in a quaint, historic setting, this is the place for you. The storefront is a 40 year old replica of the old Long Grove school house, which was originally located on this spot in this now quaint, historic, and now somewhat rustic/touristy shopping enclave. We came here to the retail location after seeing a tour of their chocolate assembly line production facility 10 minutes away. We bought a couple of chocolate covered strawberries for $3.37 as a mini-treat, and I can't really speak to relative pricing/value since we normally never buy stuff like this.

I came for the apple cider donuts. The donuts were coated in cinnamon sugar. They were not oily. They currently only make them on Saturdays. I also brought home giant dark chocolate pecan myrtles and sea salt caramels.

Apple cider donut with a bite already ripped off highly recommend!

Long grove confectionery is not only cute, but they make great products as well. I most recently had their apple cider donut at Long Grove's Apple Fest and it was not only the perfect size to share for a dessert, but it was really good and fresh too. Honestly, it was pretty light for a donut too which was nice. I highly recommend Long Grove Confectionery. You can tell they care!

The fudge was grainy but flavorful, the pie was greasy but tasty. I like Ma and Pa's better.

The chocolate (fudge) frosting on the donuts is delicious. Both cake and yeast donuts are great choices. The Bavarian cream is a welcome treat and there is a rotating donut flavor of the week. It's actually a chocolate shop and the chocolate didn't disappoint. There is a wide variety and both the fillings and chocolates themselves are creamy and flavorful. I've gone back multiple times. The service is also very friendly. While you pay a bit of a premium, it's worth it for the quality.

My wife and I had always wanted to visit them ever since then and we finally did after about 10 months. The place was small and charming with lots of neeat chocolate creations, as one would expect. We sampled a couple different chocolate pieces and as far as I can tell, they were good. I say that only because I'm not a huge chocolate person, and I don't have a huge gauge on what's good vs great. Since our main purpose of the visit was for donuts, we went ahead and orderes half dozen "premium" donuts. Turns out, the box that was gifted to us was a custom mix of their premium selections, which are fancier donut creations that require a bit more finesse and efforts for them to create. Apparently, you need to order ahead if you want to have a good mix of a dozen, which we didn't know. So we ended up picking from the available ones. They were still a good variety. I don't actively seek out donuts, but if I craved one, I'd definitely seek out Morkes.

Recently walking down Milwaukee Ave after dinner, we came across this place--we had to stop by during business hours. I called a few days later and talked to Nathan...what a wonderful young guy! When we went in to the cozy shop, to see he and his coworkers, for gifts, they were so helpful. Buying a pre-boxed selection was one option or picking out some truffles, peanut butter "buckets, and other beautiful chocolates. The recipient absolutely loved them, thoroughly enjoying the toffee, the peanut butter confections, and the truffles---the dark chocolate lemon and the red velvet with white chocolate were the big winners! Seriously, think about giving confections and chocolates for the holidays, from this place! It has the small-town feel to it with the help, the location and the selection. Check them out for corporate gifts or personal gifts...they wrap beautifully! See them sooner than later, the holidays will be here before you know it!

Being that it's winter I have to wash our jackets immediately after to rid the smell. I haven't seen many reviews that mention it though, do others not notice it? I am embarrassed to go to other stores or activities afterwards. Sometimes when we go inside the cafe the air is thick and cloudy. Unfortunately this is my daughter's favorite spot, and I can't deny that the food, drinks, and chocolates are great which are mentioned in detail in everyone else's reviews. Service is hit or miss depending on who's working but can generally expect it to be cold. However, all the people who work there work extremely hard in a tight space to take orders and cook. Perhaps they aren't trying to be rude but are just busy. I do want to recommend the tomato and basil soup. It's so good and comes with a delicious cheese toast. It's the best when the cheese is melted off the bread and crispy! You can get an extra cheese toast for $2.
