The hot chocolate was delightful! I wouldn't think that i could get a nice Spanish cup of jot chocolate at 10/11pm. This place is a really cool gem. They have a bar and food spanning from cool asian inspired dishes to simple things like cereal and milk. They is literally something for everyone. Rozz-Tox is a required stop whenever we visit family in the Quad Cities. The decor is eclectic and quirky, you'll notice something new and fun on each visit. The atmosphere is so cozy. The coffee drinks are excellent, as are the cocktails (loved the lingonberry martini). And the Japanese curry is one of the best dishes I've ever eaten. It is the ultimate comfort food. My boyfriend ended up ordering a second bowl, it's just that good. We're only in the area once a year but I am already excited for my next Rozz-Tox fix. read more

Years ago, indulging the frivolities of youth, I went on a vision quest. After days spent wandering through the ethereal mists of 2nd Avenue, I found myself in a parallel dream world where a distant voice cried out of the darkness: "The democratic socialists are hosting a mixer! Half off gin and tonics..." And it was so. Each step took me deeper into an ecstasy I had never known or even dreamed possible. I now understand what it means to open the dragon gate. When I awoke several days later, I was laying on top of the piano in the men's room wearing a band tee shirt and a lei of glow sticks, the taste of Japanese whiskey on my tongue. A kind-hearted soul discovered and took pity on me, preparing ginger honey tea and a Mama Basso's pizza as I reclined on the comfy couch and tried to get my bearings. A wandering minstrel presented me with a flyer for her upcoming show and asked if I knew anyone who might be interested in joining her feminist acoustic folk-punk band - preferably someone who knows their way around a bodhrán. Later, as I drifted through the community garden at the building's rear, I sipped a wildflower honey mead and contemplated my place in the universe. We are Life: the great experiment. Really rad coffee shop/bar/music venue! They have a cool upstairs for chilling, reading books, watching VHS's? They were even playing a Sun Ra movie, on an old little black and white tv! So Cool! Yeah, the building is cool. The upstairs library/reading area is cool. The fact they host music is cool. But that isn't enough to make me swoon over a cafe. I bought a cappuccino which ended up being the worst cappuccino I've ever had. Perhaps their other items are on point, but a cappuccino is a pretty basic item that should be solid. My other complaint is the $5 credit card minimum. While it makes sense for some businesses to have a minimum as I understand the reason behind it, if the bulk of your menu items are below $5, I shouldn't be forced to buy two just to use my card. That seems very backwards to me. I did not read the sign before ordering and the barista was not willing to make the exception just so I could pay. Overall would be content never coming here again. read more

Honestly the fact that no one on this campus dares to venture to this place is sad on their part. For those of us like moi who do take on the challenge arrive at a wonderful cafe named Rozz-Tox. Walking up to the building you see a mannequin in the window above that may cause you to raise an eyebrow, but no worries it won't bite. There is a lovely sitting area in front of the store for those big group projects or get together a person may be having and good news: free wifi for your smart phone, pad, watch whatever. There is a wide selection of food items as well as beverages and the best part for those sweet tooth people: cupcakes! Biting into one transports your taste buds to another land you may never want to return from until you finish the cupcake. Then you might as well order another, right? The owner is wonderful, I haven't spoken with him, but from what others say he is the kind of guy you could possibly sit for hours talking to. THIS PLACE IS THE COOLIEST!! Honestly the most interesting, entertaining, AND delicious coffee shop in the Quad! They have live music almost every night and are open until 1am! There is not one other "late night" coffee shop in the are. I usually order the Vietnamese coffee which can take a while to brew but is SO WORTH IT. Seriously, it's awesome, and while you're waiting you can sit at the bar and enjoy the music, even if you're not there for the concert. The artists they have are so unique and good for broadening musical horizons! If you don't want to pay for the concert and just wanna chill, you can go upstairs to their "library" which is full of fun books to look through, comfy seats, and even a vhs player and "antique" tapes to watch. This place is so unique and fun, it had such a bohemian vibe! Check this place out! The experience is worth it! read more

One of the coolest places in the Quad Cities. Seriously this place is rad! I just came here on a quiet day to get some work done and it was perfect. The music was a very chill kind of electronic music, really hip and relaxing at the same time. They have really nice tea, board games, artwork from local artists up on the walls for sale. I have no great complaints about this place or their food and drinks though I was underwhelmed by the ham and cheese sandwich which for the price was nothing outstanding, the chai tea is alright though also not memorable. The actual menu was pretty extensive and contains many items not found elsewhere in the Quad Cities which makes me think that I would return if I gained a taste for Coffee and Alcohol. read more

Currently on my first flight crew layover here in the Quad Cities. While staying at a nearby downtown Rock Island hotel, I decided to venture out on Sunday morning, solo, in search of brunch or a coffee shop where I could kill some time and grab a bite to eat. A block away from the hotel was a brunch place that had a line around the block and a what appeared to be very long wait time. It also appeared to be the only open place within walking distance too, other than the hotel restaurant, which I've grown quite tired of over the years. So I kept walking, and stumbled upon this place, a cozy little hole in the wall. I walked in to a neat atmosphere, and for a while was the only customer. More people need to know about this place--especially on a Sunday morning, as being an option. The coffee was great. Pour-over intelligentsia. Bet you can't get a pour over at the popular brunch place down the street. Loads of coffee and teas to choose from, as well as other unique drink options, as well as a nice selection of sandwiches that are made to order, and other breakfast/lunch options. Great spot to check out to kill some time, have some coffee, and grab a quick bite to eat. Super friendly service too. read more

A good coffee shop and a great Friday Night hang-out. Rozz Tox manages to mix together a lively blend art, music, and good drinks without all the yuppies you find at some of the chain coffee shops. This is a good place to meet up with your friends and hang out, play a game, listen to a show, or work on your latest thing on your laptop using the free Wi-Fi. Plus, they serve breakfast cereal at pretty much ANY TIME OF THE DAY. It's in the same vicinity of The District, but far enough removed from it (in both distance and culture) that you don't feel like you're IN the district. I've been to this spot over 30 times to see shows. I wish I could bring my love for Rozz-Tox to the west coast but this place is anything but inviting. The workers are unfriendly. Make sure you listen to the touring bands music before you go see a show. Tox is known for serving up some pretty horrible tunes. A rare gem twice a month- if you're lucky. Avoid the high alcohol prices and get a drink btwn sets at the bar next door. Tox does not serve liquor. This place has beautiful mid-century furniture and an inviting aesthetic. Too expensive for box like, short cupcakes. "Award winning"? Please...they aren't homemade. They are shorter than homemade and with a little bit of frosting. It doesn't even cover the top of the cupcakes. They have no flavor and they were so dry. If we didn't know what flavor we were eating, we would have thought it was a vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting. Seriously, if you want cupcakes, save yourself and your family money and buy a box of cake mix and a can of frosting. And it will taste the same or better. One of the few places in the QC to hit up a decent show. Bands can be hit or miss, and almost always expect to cough up $5 cover with some exceptions. Usually worth it for an intimate concert experience. Venue is small and close-quarters, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Cool upstairs area with fun decor, and always new art on the walls. Service is usually good, but I never felt like I was remembered or left an impression on any staff, which is fine, I know I look like every other white dude with glasses. With alternative concert venues in the QC being exceptionally limited (almost nil), you'll almost have to stop by to see a decent band. Beer prices are reasonable, food is decent. read more

There ain't much in Rock Island, but this spot is cooler than a lot of the coolest places in famously cool towns. The pour over coffee was spot on, and the veggie Bahn Mi (with a side of pickled egg) hit the mark right in the middle of cool/weird and healthy. Add in the generous discount for touring musicians and the awesome stage in the back of the room...easy to see why this is the go-to hangout for locals and travelers and music lovers and people who just need a cup of coffee. read more

It's almost worth coming to Rock Island JUST to hang out at Rozz-Tox. Benjamin the owner is the best. We stayed overnight (our band played here) and felt totally at home. The food is awesome, well priced, and homemade. The atmosphere is wonderful with so many interesting things to look at. Not to mention the LIBRARY upstairs where you can hang out. Or if you're there on Saturday enjoy breakfast and cartoons. I honestly can't imagine how this place could be better :) read more

This cafe is truly a hightlight of Rock Island. The atmosphere is serene and solid. Great natural light and varied seating makes it a great place to read, socialize, or even get some work done. I appreciate the rotating local art and eclectic music. The continued efforts to present great music to the community is to be applauded and enjoyed by more of us.
