My friend recently treated me to dinner at RT Lodge for my birthday. Our server, Clint, was so helpful with recommendations and explanations regarding the menu. We started with a cheese board and then the beet salad and the trout for dinner. We ended our meal with the Hazelnut Petit Gateau. Everything was absolutely delicious. We really enjoyed our dinner with good friends. The service was very good, not rushed but very well attended. We enjoyed the evening immensely. Sadly, RT Lodge includes a 20% Service Fee on the bill. They have little cards on the tables & in the bill folder explaining the fees. The waiter made it clear it wasn't a tip. So I added an additional 10% for him. I've seen service fees for large groups, we were only a party of 4. I'm thinking this issue is out of hand. The restaurant enjoys an additional 20% on liquor sales which are already 50% + above cost! I have to say, this will affect our choice to dine there or at any restaurant that uses this policy... read more

I took my son and his family here my last night visiting them in TN, for dinner. The meal was truly amazing. The attentiveness of the staff and servers is next level. We started with a cheese board which included local hard, soft, semi soft cheeses along with a delicious jam, some flatbread crackers, olives and candied walnuts. That was completely gobbled. I had French onion soup which I burned my tongue on...it was piping hot and neither here nor there for me. Our main course was pan braised skin on chicken breast for my daughter in law and I which came with mashed potatoes and cooked seasonal veggies. My son had a huge pork chop which he enjoyed thoroughly and my grandson had chicken and dumplings, which he finished. The menu is limited and reservations are a must. What a great restaurant and what a thoughtful, beautiful restoration. You can relax here forever but don't tarry too long-- get to the food and drink. Excellent bartenders and generous pours. The Lodge Fashioned was perfectly balanced. Well curated wine list too. Food was excellent--go for the fried chicken and trout. But everything else, like the pork, looked great. The ambiance is amazing! It's a three story house converted into a restaurant and lodge. It's super cozy (with fireplaces!) I got a cocktail - the Lodge Fashioned and it was expertly prepared. The food is fancy - as you would expect - and delicious. We got the beet salad, delicata squash appetizer and shared the hanger steak. The steak was paired with a green romesco sauce and it was cooked perfectly. The dessert, an apple tart was just OK. I would definitely go back for a special occasion. read more

My husband and I booked a room and dinner For our anniversary last year and it was one of my favorite experiences in Tennessee since moving here. The grounds are beautiful- we walked all over the place. They had lawn games set up, koi pond, walking trails. The food was farm to table with a creative seasonal menu. Came for a birthday dinner and it was really nice! The ambiance is peaceful with the tables not too close together. Everyone was a good volume and the dining room didn't get loud when it was fuller. Service was very attentive. Bread came out first and the rolls were warm and butter was great. For appetizers and small plates, we got the roasted oysters, beet salad, and chicken and dumplings. Everything had great flavor and wasn't salted too heavily. Beet salad had a great mix of textures and was very fresh tasting. For mains, we got the short ribs and halibut. The short ribs are a must get! Fish was good, if slightly over salted. Broccolini was a great side with hits of citrus, buttermilk, and panko crunchiness. We got the pecan ice cream and the Mississippi mud cake and it was perfect. Ice cream was super creamy and the cake had a combo of flavors and temps with the warm cake and cold ice cream. First time here and, easily, now our favorite dining experienxe around town. Inspired dishes, staffed to perfection, upscale yet cozy atmosphere. The pride in hospitality was evident in every aspect of this meal; each dish was thoughtful and explained by fans of food Buns to start: Thank goodness they only gave 2; they were pretzel-like salted crust and perfect honey butter. Charcuterie: every element was a unique flavor bomb. Pickled items rotate and tonight: eggs, green tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. 4 kinda of house cured meats. That mustard! The chicken pot pie small plate: holy cow, massive developed flavor packed into a small dish. A few bites only, but, very well composed. Duck confit: delicious! Salad in the same serving bowl allowed the vinegar to cut through the rich duck. My single criticism: the vinegar aroma dominated. I *might* have preferred it on the side? But I am nitpicking because everything else was *that good.* Hubby had the short ribs-- solid, best example of short ribs we have had out in quite a while. And little things make all the difference: each dish was perfectly seasoned; each waiter was more welcoming than the next; our cocktails were surprising combinations; ESB on draft was fantastic. We came here for a wedding and had an amazing time! We stayed for two nights. It was all decorated for Christmas and very cozy. The staff were super kind and friendly. It is the extra touches they they take the time to do that really makes a difference: the towels were fluffy, there was umbrellas out, water and coffee stations, s'mores by the fire, etc... The food we had for breakfast and during the wedding was all fantastic. The grounds are gorgeous! The only negative is that the rooms are not soundproofed at all. You can hear every conversation in the hallway, footsteps from above and even the people next door plugging their phone in the wall. You might want to bring ear plugs if you are not a heavy sleeper. Overall we had a fantastic time and we had a hard time leaving. read more

RT Lodge is a little dream land tucked quietly away behind Maryville College. The moment you pull in the parking lot you know you have arrived at a unique place. If you go during the holidays, you are sure to fall in love with all the greenery and decor. It was so tastefully done. My mom and I wanted a night away from the hustle of the season, so I booked us a room on a Thursday night hoping this would provide the quiet get away we were looking for. We enjoyed our stay so much! The main lodge hase several large rooms downstairs for casual sitting that include large fireplaces, couches and plenty of small tables. This is perfect for sipping on their fresh brewed Vienna Coffee or tea while playing card games or reading a book. You will also find a full bar with fabulously painted green walls, friendly staff, and great garden views. I had the Old Fashioned and it was very well crafted. Upstairs in this space you will find the restaurant. While we did not eat dinner here, although I've heard its fabulous, we ate breakfast and enjoyed the quiet of the morning. The chef was cheery and kind and made sure we knew about the Gluten Free Sweet Bread feature of the day (Yum!). We stayed in the Wiley House in a two twin bed room with a garden view. The rooms were quite small, but we didn't need much. The walls are very thin, and we could hear pretty much everything in the hall and rooms around us. We loved the mattresses! We would have prefered a more firm pillow, but otherwise hte beds were wonderful. The decor of beds and the little touches of "Lodge" were so fun. The cream walls and stark white of the bathroom did take away from the cozy lodge vibes. I could tell someone there cares about smalls details which added such spacial touches, but it still felt like it was missing something more warm and cozy. RT Lodge has a fabulous history worth reading about and I am so excited for some of the updates that were shared with us. I have no doubt the new investors are going to do great things with the Lodge and property. They also host events such as coorporate parties, weddings, etc. It does seem like a perfect space for a company or staff retreat. read more

The new bar is excellent though you have to tip the bartenders in cash for some reason they don't let you tip on your bill... fix this please... the food is always perfect, unique, but familiar. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, we knew we were in good hands. From the moment we walked in from outside, there was a lovely, woodsy feel that immediately relaxed us. We were greeted warmly and went to the bar for pre-dinner cocktails. Everything went smoothly and was calm; all of the staff was inviting and friendly. The transition into dinner was just as smooth with a lovely table and they surprised us with a card they'd signed for our anniversary! This made us feel so special and was very thoughtful. The food was amazing: they took such good care of us. This was likely my best restaurant experience ever. Food and service was top notch. The feel was perfect. Despite others being there, the space felt quiet and intimate. I've been wanting to leave this positive review for quite some time now, but I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Wait staff? What a great experience! I'm so mad that we'd never visited RT Lodge earlier. You definitely need to make reservations, and one thing I ran into is that their weekends are often booked for weddings. So I made a reservation for a party of 4 a month or so in advance. First off, the grounds are stunningly gorgeous! One of my favorite parts was making s'mores around the large fire pit in back after dinner. Lots of rocking chairs and it was so relaxing! Our dinner was excellent as well. We started with a bottle of wine, a scallops appetizer, and a pimento cheese appetizer. All were given good reviews by our party. For dinner, I had the ribeye. I'm typically a fillet girl instead of ribeye, but I was pleasantly surprised with how good the ribeye was. One of our party got the gnocchi with grilled chicken added. She said it was very good, but I think she ended up wishing she'd gotten the ribeye also. Service was impeccable. The restaurant was fully booked, but never did any of the staff seem stressed or swamped. We'll definitely be back! read more

The setting is one of the best in East Tennessee with well maintained and designed grounds and a wide variety of plants . The restaurant has a very comfortable feel and the service is excellent. The wait staff is attentive and eager to please. The food was to me, very pretentious, and seemed to lack taste , just a bunch of ingredients thrown together in " exciting " ways . Family in town and couldn't get reservations but they recently started serving a limited menu in the bar area so we decided to chance it. So glad we did. The grounds at the lodge are beautiful and on a fall afternoon we truly felt like we had stepped into the woods. Outdoor patios to enjoy drinks or gathering with friends on a beautiful day made the place even more inviting. Our dinner was on point and cocktails were well made. Easily my favorite restaurant in the Maryville/Knoxville area. I come here with my parents every time I visit them and am always so excited. Must haves on the menu are the fried chicken (don't skip the hot sauce), and make sure you ask if they have biscuits - I have a gluten sensitivity but will suffer the consequences every time for those biscuits (...and the fried chicken). I also love the overall ambience here, the service is fantastic & the restaurant is upscale without being stuffy or snobby. Really well done! read more

The property is very nice with multiple fireplaces/firepits, s'mores qnd grounds. The food is great in the bar area and the rooms with fireplaces were excellent as well - we enjoyed some backgammon on a chilly afternoon. We were so happy initially when we arrived. The rooms are very quaint but walls are thin and the noise can be significant depending in the other guests. The downside is that the staff was rude and not helpful particularly when there was a noise issue. They seem to be more motivated by known guests with entitled behavior rather than all paying guests. We will not go back. read more

The chocolate torte was the best I have ever had, both in presentation and complexity of flavor. Instead of the typical slice, it is an inverted dome comprised of two layers of chocolate drizzled with a bourbon caramel sauce. Not too sweet! A dark chocolate wafer (?) topped with a perky scoop of ice cream balances on top. Fresh nutty cookies (?) surround it as well. Very rich, save room and split! I would highly recommend RT Lodge! What a wonderful respite I had staying there for about 10 days. I live locally and had sold my house. Obviously a very stressful time... And my new house wasn't quite ready for me yet, so I had this window of time to sit somewhere and just relax. RT Lodge was the perfect choice. Since I was there for over a week I got to know the daytime and nighttime staff. Everyone couldn't be more friendly! It's so quiet and peaceful yet a convenient, in-town location! It's a hidden jewel. I tried to eat as many meals there as I could because the chef is clearly famous. What a treat that was, a much appreciated blessing. p.s. They have two buildings to choose from when you book a room. Both have their benefits. I chose the Walker house and it had a view overlooking the beautiful restaurant patio and large Koi pond. Just be prepared that it is a "rustico" hotel. I say that lovingly...No LED lights, lighting is by several lamps (all with a "bear" theme) around the room. A small TV, a simple sink and mirror, etc. The vibe is simple and log cabin-like. I felt like I got away from the race and busy-ness of the everyday! Thanks again to all the staff! There aren't too many places in the Knoxville area I felt were special enough to celebrate a 10-year anniversary, but RT Lodge definitely fit the bill. My now husband and I stayed for a night and dined at the restaurant. The room is so cozy with the flannel carpeting and pillows -- perfect for fall or winter. It was initially a little cold in there, but we alerted staff and they took care of it. Our dinner was very nice -- the staff left us a little "happy anniversary" card which was so sweet and made us feel very special. We're vegetarian so we ordered the cheese board and beet salad to start and then split the risotto. While there aren't many vegetarian entree options, you can definitely put together a full meal between the apps and sides. Everything tasted good! I wish I had known we could've brought our own wine in as it would've helped reduce costs, hah, but next time. After dinner, we hung out downstairs in the lodge by the fire. In the morning we had breakfast which was light but still enjoyable. Overall, the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary and look forward to coming back! read more

I have been to RT Lodge many times for corporate retreats and have always enjoyed the food, service, and ambiance. We had dinner tonight to celebrate my father's birthday. Jody was our server and she was amazing! Attentive without being intrusive, great sense of humor, and impeccable timing of food delivery. Unfortunately, there was a large party that was obnoxious and loud but the staff was even apologetic about that. Stayed here recently on a recommendation from local friends when visiting the area. We really enjoyed our stay here, it was relaxing, casual, with friendly, attentive staff. It's soothing, woodsy location was not too far from the rest of the city. Nice alternative to a typical hotel that's right by a freeway. Also, encouraged that we didn't have to leave the lodge to enjoy high quality, delicious food at the restaurant for dinner or breakfast. The grounds were enjoyable to stroll around and for meditation spots. We also enjoyed the smores by the fireplace in the evenings and feeding the koi fish. The rooms and beds were a little on the tight side, but manageable for a few nights. Would like to come back and explore more of the area, and partake in the relaxing atmosphere, hospitality, and charm! read more
