Quick and efficient…read more I visited the Tower City train station (Public Square stop) in early September 2024 when I went to a Cleveland Guardians baseball game with a friend. We both started at the West 25th Ave. stop at the West Side Market in Ohio City and it only took 1 stop, less than 4 minutes, to get to Tower City. Once inside Tower City, we walked for about 8 minutes inside the walkway that connects to Progressive Field where the Guardians play. Once the game was over, we found the outside door that leads us back into the inside walkway back to the Tower City stop. The actual train station is nice and clean. There are benches to sit on before you get to the area where the train is. Those benches, located right by where you purchase tickets, are super clean. Once you're in the section where the train arrives, there are benches there too but they looked a bit dirty plus that area is slightly dark. I recommend standing and not sitting while waiting for the train, if you can. It wasn't the best experience of my life. I am still very tired while writing this. The Floridian line of the Amtrak is, as I now know, always very, very late. As it was scheduled to leave the station at 3am, I woke up very early to get to this station on time. All the services were closed (very unfortunate) and me and dozens of others waited in the bare waiting room on uncomfortable seats for over and hour and a half before finally boarding at 4:30am. At least this station in particular was clean and the waiting room was open and the signage was well lit from the outside. 3 stars for the building and services and 2 stars for Amtrak itself. The staff on the train itself was very professional and good at their jobs so there's that. I wish there was a rule against people talking so dang loud the whole ride as 99% of us were trying to sleep!! Only gonna do this again in the case of last resort... like I had to this time.

DECLINING CONDITION -- While the ticket buying process is super quick and easy (buy at a pay station machine), the actual waiting area for the train is terrible. The whole waiting area reeks (smells) of urine. It is also dirty down there. I would not recommend coming here by yourself because it is below ground so it is quiet and you may not feel safe being alone especially at night. I was with a friend when I arrived and there was just one other person there. A few minutes later, others arrived who happened to also be going to a baseball game, as evidenced from their baseball gear (t-shirts). I did not see any train attendant booth here so if you have a question, no one will be able to help you unless you call a staff member on your phone. Thankfully, the whole process in buying a ticket and waiting for a train was very easy so my friend and I did not need help. Besides the smell and old nature of this atop, they do have functioning elevator so if you are handicapped, you will be able to go down to where the train arrives and departs. It is cheap, but can easily add up. It is convenient, but also darn near slow. I am happy that a city like Cleveland has options for me to get around without having to depend on rideshares. The Red Line is the way to go to and from the airport from Downtown. It really is. The Blue and Green Waterfront lines bring you to the Rock Hall and towards well, the water. The trains also go to The Flats which made me real happy. Amtrak is also connected into the system. But since the trains run at night, it does not pay to use this system to get to the station. But to go to a Browns game or Indians game, this works real well. Take advantage of the cost and ride it. I guess that is easy enough to put into words.

It was a highlight of the trip! The market is right downtown in a gorgeous old building, make sure to look at the ceilings. There are public parking areas all around outside, but it does get busy. There are also side buildings and outdoor stalls nearby, so be sure to check them out. Inside is rows upon rows of amazing local vendors with food to enjoy there, or many items to buy and take home. Meat counters, fresh vegetables and fruit, sauces, Middle Eastern food, Greek, Mexican, Gyros, sandwiches, baked goods, salads and so much more are all over. Even stalls that repeat the same types of items have their own unique spin and history. It's busy, with people everywhere looking and enjoying their purchases. Prices are reasonable, especially how fresh and local everything is. I bought a bunch of small things to eat while we walked, together we bought shishkabobs and steak to enjoy at home the following day. It's a great place to shop local!

When I return, I fully intend to walk through this market, buy from no fewer than 10 stalls, and somehow end up preparing enough food for 25 people--even if it's only my family of four. The specialties here are endless. The uncooked pierogies nearly broke my heart because I had no way to take them home and cook them myself. Sausage lovers will be in heaven, and beyond that, you'll find incredible produce, fresh fish, quality proteins, and a wonderful representation of the many cultures that make Cleveland what it is. All of this is housed inside a historic building with stunning architecture that makes the experience even better. Pro tip: Climb the stairs to the second floor for an incredible bird's-eye view of the entire market. It's the perfect way to appreciate just how special this Cleveland landmark really is.

In hindsight, that was not a very good idea but I did manage to get a whole bunch of steps for my FitBit. The station has the usual things - an automated ticket vending machine, turnstile, signage, stairs and elevator. I do like it when the elevators don't smell like pee. So thanks for that.
