My sister wanted to surprise her husband for his bday so my fiancé and I got ready to experience the range for the first time together. Once we watched our safety video and checked in we went to our booths where we were greeted by Marcus one of the training officer. He showed us how to hold, load and position our bodies. He was friendly and helpful. Marcus made the experience that much better. The price of the rentals were reasonable, the safety headphones and glasses you get to keep, so paying the $25 was worth it especially if you plan on coming back. They had a photo op wall which was fun because who doesn't love a good picture. They had a cafe but sadly it was closed while we were there and didn't get to have any yummy treats. I qualified here and in their Randolph, NJ, location with my federal agency on many occasions and I was always impressed with how clean, bright, and pleasant the staff always was. I'm since retired and decided to become a member. I'm going more than I ever have and the staff could not be more pleasant, supportive, and safety conscious. The rates to join as a law enforcement are beyond reasonable. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or expert, you'll feel very comfortable here. I've only gone on weekdays and never had a problem securing a booth. There is a huge assortment of firearms to purchase or rent and plenty of accessories as well. There is even a coffee shop if you want to get caffeinated. Be thankful they are very safety conscious because they are protecting me and you. There is plenty of parking in their lot and you can't miss the big "RTSP" sign on Route 22. read more

I learned of this range from another member of my local gun club. As it has indoor facilities (unlike my local club) my husband & I went for a shoot. Their lane rental charges are a little high. But they have plenty of lanes, up-to-date equipment & conscientious range officers. They also offer membership plans, with significant discounts for law enforcement. The range is clean & well-lit. There is a sales area & a gunsmith on site. I have used the services of their gunsmith & been very pleased. You can rent a pistol or rifle there. But if you have your own firearm (and, of course, a license ) you can use your own weapon there. Even when they are busy, they keep lines moving, as they are efficient. Of course, weekends are busier; weekdays are best, if you can get thee. All in all, I am very pleased with the range. read more

Took my guns out for some practice this past Saturday at RTSP Range. It looks new, the prices are fair, rentals are much cheaper than at other ranges, and prices on ammo are reasonable. You must first watch the gun safety video and sign all the waivers. Then you can go to the counter to rent out a port. Ports are limited to 3 people per port. Initial cost is $25 plus $10 for each extra person. The ports are electronic, and timed so you get exactly the amount you paid for. There are multiple range officers in each section of the range. Some are large enough to use things larger than handguns. The range officers are knowledgeable and friendly as well. So far, the best gun range I have visited in NJ read more

This was first time ever going to a gun range so I honestly have nothing to compare it to. I can only tell you what my experience and overall, it was pretty good. I don't really know what prices compare to for other ranges but for like 100 rounds and 2 different types of guns, with 4 people, it was $250 (yeah expensive lol). The staff was pretty helpful though once we were inside the range. I wish I could remember the guys name that was helping us but he made sure to walk us through using the guns be as constantly checking on us which was nice! (I think he name was Wayne, he had dreadlocks!) I was incredibly nervous and he kept reminding me to relax which isn't the easiest when your holding a powerful gun lol I will say that if ear sensitivity is an issue for you, like it is for me, make sure to bring double ear protection. So by that, I mean that I noticed the employees had ear plugs in their actual ears and the headphones. The headphones helped muffle the sounds but still weren't really helpful. I thankfully brought my personal earplugs so I had those inside of the headphones (and that still was loud). My friends right ear has been bothering him the whole day after which is scary so PLEASE PROTECT YOUR EARS! Overall though, I would come back to try smaller, less loud guns as long as I had the same person helping me as before because he was great! read more

I have been to RTSP Union location multiple times and have had great experiences and yesterday was no different. Peter the RSO (range safety officer) is excellent. He was extremely helpful in giving safety instructions. He also took the time to give us some helpful pointers on shooting and our accuracy and comfort level got better immediately. We are grateful he took the time to help us out. Well today , i tried out The RTSP range in union nj . Which was an old pet smart at one time . The place is total new and state of the art. When you enter you can tell the security level is super extreme in this range. When you walk in you must see the safety movies and then sign in on a computer tablet. Then you may move on too step three , rental and ammo and purchase range time . I had my own equipment so all I purchase was one hour range time and five paper standard q targets with tax and all was 33 bucks . They we're not as cheap as the good old bullet hole in Belleville . The staff is ok ,a little arrogant but I was able to deal with it . They don't offer law enforcement discount only for membership! I Would have them at a higher rating but staff and price of the hour and five target they will only get three stars . read more

Took my boyfriend here for a Father's Day surprise. He has been talking about going to a gun range for awhile. They only do walk-ins.When we got there it was about an hour wait but it went by pretty quickly.The process getting started was simple.You watch about a 8 min video on your phone sign the consent and start your session. He picked our gun,purchased ammo and eye and war gear which you get to keep so that was good and purchase your target paper. Then to the range you go. I don't remember our instructor name but he was awesome.He made me feel as comfortable as he could.It's very loud in there and I have never even touched a gun so I was a little uneasy at first but he got me through the initial fear. I was also able to use a free gun rental from Yelp. Overall my boyfriend loved the surprise and I appreciated the professionalism and the patience the instructor had with me. This place is great! They are so patient with new shooters, and do an excellent hands on training session. We had Ray and he's great, and especially patient and very friendly too. I felt a little intimidated first walking in, as it's a big place. But the guy at the front was welcoming and made us feel more comfortable, as did the guy that checked us in. I had such an awesome time at RTSP! I am no stranger to shooting a gun but where I shoot is a bit different than the range. I am used to shooting in the woods with silence not other firearms going off next to you so I was a bit nervous but with the help from the staff at RTSP they were able to make me feel so secure and comfortable that I got a bulls eye on my first round on my 1st time shooting a 9mm. We recently moved to Texas but while we were living in NJ, RTSP was my go to training, practice and safety.

Came here for my brother's birthday and was excited to experience shooting a gun. My wife and I walked in, watched the safety video, proceeded to the desk to choose our weapons and go inside the range. Very smooth transaction, I chose a rifle, and she chose a pistol. We walked in and were introduced to Lucky. Immediately, Lucky breaks the ice, and I'm glad he did. We continue inside and I was completely caught off guard by the amount of force each gun makes, which made me kinda nervous, but with it being my first time, I was sure I would get use to it. My brother was in a stall down the hall and he was shooting a rifle that made such a boom that I immediately started to regret getting the rifle. Anyway, after walking in, we walk over to the bay and Lucky starts to coach us on the safety protocols as well as handling the firearms. He was an excellent instructor, showing us how to reload, giving us tips and was very patient with us while my wife and I asked questions. This is where I start to notice that we made the right choice coming to RTSP: When Lucky started to explain the AR-15, I told him straight up I wasn't sure handling a firearm like that would be a good idea, especially since I was a beginner. This dude looked me straight in the eye and thanked me for being honest, but he said that there was nothing to be worried about. He explained to me why it was no big deal, not much recoil on the firearm and it was designed beautifully and that I should try it. I gave it a shot and Lucky was right! There was nothing to be worried about. It was a great experience to try out a gun like that, and I'm so glad he encouraged me to try it. The range is nice! It's my first time experiencing a range and I couldn't be happier to do it there. Everyone was business as usual, trying to get everyone in and answering every question anyone had. The customer service was great and I would definitely recommend RTSP to anyone. I can't stress this enough how "Lucky" my wife and I felt having Lucky as our RSO. This dude had a lot of patience and he was just happy to show us the ins and outs of just having a good time at the range. Seriously really happy that he was assigned to us. I waited till all my transactions with RTSP was done before doing a review. I am new to the world of firearms so hopefully this review can help fellow first time shooter's and buyer's. 2 weeks ago I went here to rent some different hand guns to figure out what would be the best fit for me since youtube and word of mouth varies nothing will replace hands on time. And this place allows the opportunity to rent firearms and even offer an introduction to show you the very basic operations of a firearm. The people at the counter for the range set me up with a selection of firearms based on what I was looking for. The range instructor was great! He took his time to go over everything from safety to how to load and properly aim and to adjust to get more on target. I did buy a rifle before going to the range and explained wanting to rent before purchasing and the salesman was patient and offered me options. He told me if I wanted to add the handgun to my order to save a 2nd nics check to let them know when I was done with the range because they only had the 1 left. The only sour part was being ushered away to put my name back on the list and couldn't tell them to hold the handgun to my purchase. In the time it took to call me back in the handgun sold and they had no idea when one would come back in stock thanks to the pandemic. 4 days later I was able to pick up my rifle and I got their first thing in the morning which is best to avoid the line that forms later in the day. I told the new salesman about my experience and reluctantly asked if the handgun I was looking for by any chance came in and was told he's sorry but has no idea when one would come in. I pick up my rifle and started my way home when the salesman called me and asked if I was still interested in the handgun because one just got delivered 20 min after I walked out the door. He put it aside for me as I made a u-turn to purchase the pistol. Today I picked up the handgun first thing in the morning and got to interact with a 3rd different salesman. Once again very knowledgeable asked if there was anything else I needed. RTSP made back a bunch of points with me with that phone call! Customer service matters more to me than any deals. And he didn't have to remember our brief conversation and take time to let me know the exact firearm I wanted came in and put it aside for me. That has earned this company not only my business and praise but more importantly my respect! read more

Wow wow wow! The staff is friendly and very helpful. In the beginning it was very confusing to me the different rules of the gun. Although I am a right, my instructor gave me an assessment and was able to reccomend that I shot with a left. I was getting head shots and hitting exactly where I wanted at 15 yards my first try. Today I went shooting with some friends and what a great experience. From creating a profile, checking in and selecting a gun , to the safety officer on the line. People friendly staff with a lot of patience. It was my first time handling a gun , and you wouldn't have known it. Learned so much in a short time. An extremely clean facility and very well organized. The firearms we chose were the Glock 17 and a 1911. What a difference between calibers. I can't wait to go again.
