I would never recommend this place to anyone. The man that runs this place is the RUDEST man I have ever met. I understand that there are parking issues at his location but that does not justify his poor customer service, the shop looks like a thrift store and like I said he is SOOO rude. without even finding out if I was a potential customer he decided I could not park in his marked parking space. When I attempted to speak with him he told me it is AMERICA and he could do what he wanted. What does that have to do with anything? When I went in (after finding parking somewhere else) he was equally as rude. When I told him I would be writing a bad yelp review he threatened to sue me. Why places make pants for leggy super models is beyond me. Hello! There are normal sized women out here too, ya know. Thanks to previous Yelper, Edna E., I decided to try this place out. I was desperately in need of a new tailor since my previous tailor lost a pair of my jeans then proceeded to blame it on me. After she cut me the check to reimburse me for said jeans I knew it was time to cut ties with her. This is a small shop located near CHOC. They do an amazing job and if you're not satisfied they'll fix it for free. Lucky for everyone, I was satisfied. The old man whatever his name is is a mess. He does good work but he lost my pants before and I had to go in the back and look for them myself. Fast forward a month later and I bring a pair of work pants to get the pockets replaced and he told me it would be done in two days. I came back he said he forgot.... I came back in 3 more days and he didn't even apologize and he said he forgot to do them. I went out of town and I came back 3 weeks later and it still hasn't been done!!! I'm writing this review because I'm waiting in the lobby while he works on my pants that I left over a month ago. I don't know how to even start talking about this business. What I do know is that unfortunately there's no negative stars, at least not yet, and this is why I only give it a 1 star, that's not deserved. I took some dressing pants yesterday 5/17 to get them done shorter, the owner asked when I would want to pick up, I said the next day which would be 5/18, I go and pick up the day we agreed on, just before he closed and he tells me he forgot to do them. How do you forget? So he actually did the job on the spot, which was a terrible job. He didn't even cut the pants, all de did was fold them and started hemming. Best tailor in town. Ruben is a great tailor, however you just have to contact him ahead of time to confirm that your items are ready. Recently, I jumped in a pool in a $2000 suit for a wedding. Ruben seems nice and accommodating, but I had to come back 2x to get quality work done (since it wasn't sewn right the first time) on two expensive suits I had recently purchased. And when I asked for a discount since I had to come back a second time and drive another hour out of my way, I was told "maybe next time." There definitely won't be a next time. There were even a couple tiny holes in one of my pant legs! Never returning here. FYI - Payment is cash-only I ended up taking my suit to TK Tailoring in Huntington Beach and had her fix all Ruben's poor-quality work. 500x better! read more

Wanted to give him a chance even though the reviews were inconsistent because he had been somewhat dependable for my family and he was close by. His shop was chaotic but I did my best to maintain my confidence. I arrived on HIS deadline to pick up two dresses that needed basic hemming. He didn't bother using the ticket I gave him to search for my dresses so I had to finally point them out to him. They weren't done, so he told me to come back later that day or the next day at any time. I wasn't in a rush, so I waited until the next day. When I returned, not only was only one of them finished, the other one had been started but altered in the wrong area. He altered the sleeves even though I ONLY requested the slit (insert panic)?!?! He had completely forgotten what was needed for this dress even though he had the appropriate pins and markings (none of which existed on the sleeves), and had to ask me again what I wanted. He reassured me he could fully restore the sleeves and finish the dress in the next 20 min. When I came back for the THIRD time, my dress was finally complete. My biggest issue is that he still tried to charge me full price, $39 for two basic alterations, after he didn't meet his own deadlines TWICE and after he almost screwed up my dress. I confronted him about this and he was only willing to go down to $35 (are you kidding me?!). I negotiated $30, which I think was still pretty generous after all that BS and the amount of patience I afforded him, but he wouldn't accept less than $35. I wasn't about to budge, so he let me off with the dresses for free, not because it was the courteous thing to do but because he no longer wanted to deal with an argument at that point. Literally turned and walked away from me as he told me to take the dresses. The 1 star is for the work that was done on my dresses. The lack of 4 stars is for his complete absence of dependability and ethics. read more

I have been taking my clothes to Ruben for over 15 years. I am short with a short hip line so i it is difficult for me to find pants that fit. He has altered my pants and suits so well it is almost impossible to tell they have been altered. I have also brought several evening gowns and cocktail dresses for him to fix. The work was delicate but he did an excellent job. The prices are reasonable too. I would highly recommend him. read more

I brought in a pair of pants that needed new waist elastic. He noticed a drawstring I hadn't realized existed, pulled it to cinch the waist, and it fixed the problem - for free. On top of that, he was very personable. The shop also has very nice art on the walls. read more

Don't waste your time coming here, he will promise to have your clothes on a date and then not bother to call you to tell you that they won't be ready in time. A little courtesy notice would be nice but you have to call and call to get an update on something that he promised to deliver on time. When you do get your suit back you can tell the work was rushed to get it finished and lacked the workmanship. read more

I needed my pants hemmed and since this place was down the street from my house I decided to give it a try. When I first came in, I was helped by a nice woman. She took my measurements and assured me that they would be ready by Friday at 4pm. I came by on Friday about 4:30ish and I was being helped by a older man( I assumed this was Ruben?) He didn't greet us, simply said "yes?" I told him I was there to pick up my pants. He stated looking for them through piles and piles of clothes (the whole store is a mess) after a few min, he found them and come to find out they WEREN'T EVEN DONE! I was in a rush, so I was even more upset. I told him that the woman assured me they would be done and ready by today. And his response? "well that's what she said but they're not done" I was so shocked that I just laughed at how rude he was being. I could not believe it. I came by the next day in the morning to get my pants and thank God that they were ready. Only thing is that I was still being charged full price even though they had dropped the ball on this one! I told her what had happened and she said she would give me a $2 discount... TWO DOLLARS?? I HAD TO LAUGH. This place is a joke. Please don't come here. First, I came here because I had read good reviews, so I decided to give him a try. I had four scrubs I wanted to get hemmed and we agreed on having them done by the next day. I came back the next day and he told me he forgot to do it, although it was close to closing time. Then, we agreed on having it done by the next day and as I left, I reminded him not to forget it. So, I came back the next day in the afternoon to find out he had barely started hemming my scrubs. I felt the job was rushed, although it turned out okay, it could've been better. I'm sure Ruben is a nice guy, but I will NEVER bring my business to him again!! I dropped off a shirt to be altered to him on Friday afternoon and asked if he would be to get it done that day. He said "yes, around 5, call me before to check" It was perfect because I was getting my car fixed down the street. My car was done around 6pm, I called the shop before I left the lot. He picked up the phone and said "it's done. it's done" I figured he had caller ID since he didn't even say "hello" or anything. So I drive happily down the street and walk into the shop. When I walked in, he said "oh it's not done, I didn't have time. I'm sorry..." I told him I had just called and was that he told me it was done. I wasn't happy, but figured I'd give him a break cuz it was me who was the one w/a rush order. So I asked, can you have it done by Sunday morning? and he enthusiastically "yes! everything yes" Awesome! I needed this shirt done by Sunday afternoon, so I went in Sunday morning and he asked for my last name. I gave it to him and he said "oh I forgot to do it. Give me an hour" I told him I needed to be in the shirt in an hour and that I would be going somewhere else. Not once did I get a call and even when I called, he gave me the wrong info. Like I said, I'm sure he's a nice guy, but a business man he is not. If he couldn't do it, then be honest w/me. I would have been more understanding if he were up front w/me instead of being a "yes man" because he clearly can't deliver what he promises. I hate to bash on a small businesses because I, personally, love mom and pop shops, but this just isn't fair to clientele who are needing things and are promised something by a certain time that are not fulfilled. read more

What a great tailor! My boyfriend came here to get his suit taken in a couple of weeks ago since he lost a significant amount of weight and Ruben was honest with us. His weight loss was too much where even if he were to tailor it to his new size, it still wouldn't look as good as getting a new suit. He referred us to a suit store down the street and stated that the price for tailoring his current suit would be very close to just buying a new one. His honesty was shocking seeing that it lowered his profit. We ended up going down the street, buying a new suit, and taking it to Ruben to hem the pants for $8. WOW! Beware!!!!! Where do I start??? Took shirts in to get tailored and returned on agreed upon time to find them not done..... Ruben said he wasn't sure what I wanted done to them. Are you kidding me? why did he let me leave the store not knowing what I wanted?? Total BS. He's so disorganized he obviously did not write it down. Next he tells me to return in 15 minutes and they will be done. I return and the shirts are all cut too short in length and essentially ruined. Ruben tried to blame it on me by saying I gave him the wrong instructions. How quickly he forgets he originally had the shirts for over a week and did nothing with them. Then its my fault he messed up. I told him the same thing twice and he couldn't get to right. To make things worse he tried to charge me for his screw up. I bought a heavily sequined dress for my brothers wedding and decided I wanted a slit added for drama and also to able to walk easier since it was floor length. I didn't know if it could be done and to top it off i waited til the last minute! I took it to Ruben he had me try it on in the shop to show him where I wanted the slit and told me it would be done a day earlier than I needed! Quick easy and affordable! My boyfriend waited until the Monday before his friends wedding to get his jacket and vest fitted for the rehearsal dinner on Thursday. We went to Ruben's because it was close and he said he could have it finished my Wednesday night to pick up Thursday morning. When we showed up Thursday morning... he said he hasn't done it yet!! And asked if we could come back in a few hours. We already told him we were going out of town. It was the absolute worst experience. I will never go back and I would never recommend this tailor.
