Then check out the Friends of the Library Bookstore. It's located inside the Folsom Public Library building. They sell all sorts of categories. Children, cookbooks, young adults, sci fi, mystery, and nonfiction. Plus CD, DVDs, and audio books. Prices range from free ( aha... giving it away with nothing asked in return kind of free), a quarter to $3. When they have the monthly pop up sales, recently decommissioned library books are 10 for $1. Yes... I did a double take too. 10 books for $1!! The proceeds goes back into the library programs. Having attended Rudolf Steiner College for several years of training and loving almost every minute…read moreof it, I was super disappointed with the experiences I had in the RS campus bookstore. Yes, it was clean and brightly lit, with all sorts of lovely 'Waldorf' approved items for sale including make-up, art supplies and texts but my overall experience with service was the pits. My story is this: I bought books the first week of school that were not to be used until the second week and when the professor decided the text (Percival) was not to be used... the bookstore would not take it back. According to them the cover was bent. It had sat in my car with absolutely no use for a week. I explained that the bend was from shelf wear..not my car but they wouldn't have it. I appealed to their shift manager who again told me the same thing and then asked me to leave. How embarrassing!!! I left the book on the counter, attempting to give them the book for free so that it could find another home that needed it and they refused to take it back as a gift saying it was used. For a campus that prides itself on sustainable behaviors I found this totally silly! I walked down to the library and left it there like it was some sort of peace offering. Anyway..now I go out of my way to use Amazon, eBay and other online resources to get books for my Steiner training...and I have found it is much cheaper and way more friendly! This store is a gem. The staff is so kind, eager to help you find what you need (and order it if…read morethey don't have it), and very well-versed in both their products and Steiner philosophy. The store has a large education section, brimming with curriculum materials for Waldorf teachers, curious parents, and those who are homeschooling. In the back room is a lovely toy selection, with sturdy, well-made and beautiful toys such as one might find in a Waldorf classroom or kindergarten. Their hand-made dolls are stunning! One of my favorite parts of the store is the selection of beautiful beeswax candles, and also the craft and art supplies. Lots of books on felting, knitting, doll-making, rose windows, and the materials for the craft projects, along with a nice selection of Stockmar crayons and Lyra pencils. Also, this is one of the few places one can find beeswax and main lesson books (they make lovely journals, or scrapbooks, in addition to their educational uses). Regarding the previous review by Sabina, I've returned items on different occasions and have never encountered a problem. This is a small store and they probably can't afford to accept back trashed merchandise as a "loss" (like Wal-mart or something). i came here on a whim. i'm from nevada. i saw nevada section that had a book with the UNR mackay…read morestatue, i took a picture with the book. the man behind the counter told me that "can i help you find anything" i said "no, im just looking" he said "this isn't a library the books, aren't to be played with" immediately put a bad taste in my mouth. i was taking a photo with the book, i was very interested in buying books but i immediately left. when i first came in i said "i could spend all day inside" and he had a bad attitude. i have never had a bad experience at a used book store. whatever you do don't come here. go to the library because at least they will give you better service then the one i had here. i'm going to address the remarks the owner made. it seems you barley remember me as a customer because when you said "When you first came in, I greeted you in a friendly manner welcoming you to the store" you never greeted us when we came in. we were only asked what we were looking for after i had been in the store for 20 minutes. bad customer service. if you genuinely wanted us to buy something you would be attentive and greeting every customer upon entering. "I perceived this as you playing with my books for entertainment or social media purposes, as I see far too often in my shop." so you're just assuming i wouldnt buy anything??? like you said i was bouncing around excited. i hadn't even seen all there was to see! you assumed i wasn't going to buy anything based off the fact that i wasn't looking at everything??? "Some books only get a little more oil from the fingers, or slightly more thumbed pages. Others get ruined as they get dropped or crammed carelessly onto the shelf" notice how when you were disrespectful i didn't cram it back on the shelf i put it nicely back on the shelf but you don't want to include that in your response. unfortunately you don't understand the risks with running a bookstore because if you did you'd realized that books get handled and touched. if you're so worried put it behind a glass case so they don't get grabbed... you can't police every person who touches your books. i DID have a desire to purchase from your used bookstore however your attitude turned me away along with multiple other customers who wrote a review just like mine. The store has two floors packed with books, so there's always another shelf to check out. It's also in a really cute part of downtown Auburn, which makes it an easy stop if you're spending the day there.
