The good news is that the food is made to order...it was almost bad news considering it was busy when I arrived and was running late for my movie, but I can't hold fault to that. It's a genuine smashed burger. My first bite of the meat that went outside the bun had me worried that it was overcooked, but it ultimately was just that piece as the rest of it was good and what you'd want from a smash burger. I got a double - which I'd recommend since the patties are on the somewhat smaller side, and really loved the burger. The fries were surprisingly average to my taste. Cut similar to McDonald's, but I didn't find they had much taste and were quite oversalted. Actually, they were very oversalted. I imagine that was a mistake on whoever was doing fries and otherwise they would be average but passible fries. But someone preferring thin cut may feel otherwise. My wife really enjoyed her strawberry milkshake. It doesn't look like it's from ice cream, but rather a cream base that they put in a frother for quite a bit of time. That also held up the order since there others had ordered shakes too, but ultimately it was a very good shake and can't hold that against them. It definitely came out nice and light. read more

The fries were crispy like McDonald's and tasted better than the burger itself. The patty was very charred and so thin. When I hold it I can feel through the bun that some area didn't even have the patty. Had high expectations because I've heard good things about this place but I don't see the hype at all. With minimal seating inside this is more so a to go spot but as I've passed by it so many times I finally stopped by to pick up an order. Ordered ahead and it was ready just as I arrived which was great. Place is a bit awkward to get out of based on an odd location, but it really is hard to miss . The burger itself underwhelmed for me. Although the crisp on the edges of the patty was great, my 'Rudy' burger seemed small and the bun, although in proportion, seemed lack luster. I picked up on a promo so ended up with 2 burgers for $10, which was a great deal, but paying $10, the regular price for this, seems high. Cheese was meh, probably better without. Tomatoes nice an juicy but the lettuce was meager and super wilted. Probably pass next time around unless I hear changes have been put in place. Staff was super friendly.. RUDY is a small burger joint, with 3 selections of smash burgers, and a fried chicken sandwich. I decided to check this place out since it was conveniently located across the street from the Ikea in Etobicoke, and I didn't want to eat Ikea food after my shopping trip. I ordered a Rudy combo, which is a single patty burger with cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. I added bacon just for sake of it, but regretted it afterwards because it was burnt and a little too salty for me. However, the burger itself is was quite good and very satisfying. The beef patty had crispy edges, but was overall soft and juicy. The bun was soft, making the burger easy to bite into without falling apart and making a mess. I'm not sure what sauce they used but it complimented the burger quite well, and all the flavours blended together nicely with each bite (after I picked out the bacon). The thin cut fries were also delicious. They were crispy, and not too salty or oily. The service here is like any other fast food restaurant. You order at the counter and then wait for your food, before taking it to your seat or to go. The cashier was nice, and the wait time was acceptable. The restaurant itself is pretty small, though they have plenty of free parking space. Inside has four tall tables by the window for seating, and outside are another four picnic tables for warmer days. read more

If you're craving burgers, RUDY is a classic spot to go to with multiple locations in Toronto. The service is really quick and the food is always delicious quality. I got the classic Rudy cheeseburger and another with bacon as additional topping. The toppings were fresh and the meat was juicy. The only downside is that it's a bit expensive (around $9) for what you get since it's a small portion. Overall, I would recommend giving this spot a try if you happen to be in the area! It's not comparable to the fast food spots most are accustomed to but the service is as fast as it gets for made to order burgers. It's a small spot so if it's not busy you might get in house seating or if it's nice they have an outdoor patio. The burger is enough very filling. read more

Rudy is located at the northwest corner of Vansco and the Queensway across the street from the not easy to miss Ikea Etobicoke. OK so I haven't been writing any reviews much lately. I'm sort of out of the loop... ok rather I'm out of the loop. What would bring me back to care so much but to actually write something and post about it again? The answer to that question is not in the wind. It's in fact across the street from Ikea. Rudy, this tiny place obscure in fact considering it's kind of hidden is a like an oasis pool where the next decent thing around is well take your pick, some other chain on the Queensway. So while I go on about where Rudy is it should be said there's more than just this location. There are apparently 5 of them. (Little Italy, the Danforth, Richmond and Duncan, Yonge and Eg and of course this one which seems alone in this box store, big box area which is more like an industrial / commercial wasteland. The others well the others are in civilization for lack of a better term. I mean people live within a paper airplane's throw distance away but not this location. So you're sort of hidden. Rudy can still be seen from the Queensway going east but unless you take the underpass road (Wickman) you can't make a left into Rudy so you'll have to go under the overpass or all the way over and turn around if you miss it. The advice given here is don't miss it and turn around if you have to. Crispy beef. The burgers are smashed style and thinned out, crispy-fied. Is that a real word? I made it up but maybe you get the idea. You know if you grill say 4 burgers (not all at once) and at the end there's these beautiful tiny crispy pieces left behind? Imagine your burger being like that but it's sort of the whole burger. I mean if you're expecting a moist, juicy patty - this ain't it. It's savory tasty goodness however but just don't expect a juicy, thick patty(ies). Don't get me wrong because I am FAR from complaining so do not get the impression I didn't like this burger. It was so different and crunchier than expected that I in fact loved it. I had the big Rudy which is the "pseudo" Big Mac and while I've had my fair share of these 2nd tier burger places presenting their version of the pickles, cheese, special sauce type "would you rather" burgers from places like Holy Chuck, Burger's Priest etc this Rudy's rendition is magnifique. I can't say enough about this burger and how it's just so much different and in essence better than the other options out there probably because while smash is getting popular/popularized I honestly do not believe this is a trend but the basis of a product that should stand the test of time. In the future perhaps somebody else will reinvent the most basic of food items and redefine them again but for now, this is it. This is what we came for. My only critique of this place is the furniture is not comfortable. One high table has stools higher than the table so you can't really sit at it (bigger one in south west corner). Besides that eat and enjoy. I eat out a decent amount and have had burgers from coast to cost and this is probably the best burger I've had in recent memory. read more

I remember being a huge fan of Rudy back when they first opened, so I was pretty excited to discover that they had a location pretty close to me. We showed up at around dinnertime on a recent weekday, and I decided to order The Rude Dude ("Double cheeseburger, lettuce, tomatoes and Rudy sauce"). We also ordered a Poutine ("Quebec cheese curds and housemade gravy on fresh cut thick fries") to share. We were told the wait would be about seven minutes. We were standing by the door to the outside seating area, and I told my dining companion to go ahead and wait out there, and I'd wait for the food. The woman who served us then mentioned that we could both go out there and she'd bring us the food. Excellent! After waiting almost 20 minutes, I was beginning to wonder what was going on inside, so I walked in and told a different server that I was waiting for my food. And there it was, sitting under a heat lamp. How long was it sitting there? I have no idea, but long enough that none of the food was still hot. The poutine fared especially poorly, because there's nothing worse than a room-temperature pile of fries, cheese, and gravy. It was pretty gross. The hamburger was decent, at least. The smashed patty had a fairly irresistible crust, and while the whole thing fell apart seconds after I took my first bite, I did enjoy eating it. I would've enjoyed it more had it been piping hot, though. I'm so disappointed in Rudy. There's a Burger's Priest just down the road, however, and I think I'll go there when I'm next craving a hamburger. read more

I finally got a chance to try this restaurant! I have been hearing a lot about Rudy and they just opened a location near me so I thought I would try it out! I have heard great things about the cheeseburgers and fried chicken burgers so I thought I would give it a try, along with the poutine! The stars were definitely the cheeseburgers (single and double) - both were incredibly delicious, the patty was cooked perfectly and it had a fantastic crisp on the outside. It did NOT disappoint! I was really excited about the Fried chicken sandwich and had high expectations, but unfortunately I found it to be lacking in flavor and a little underwhelming overall...for $8.49 I expected quite a bit more Ending on a high note, the poutine was incredible!!! Large portions and flavorful! I tried Rudy for the first time after driving by it multiple times. I popped in on a Sunday afternoon and it was quite busy. I ordered a Rudy (single patty) and rude dude (double) with fries and coleslaw on the side. I thought the burgers were super tasty. They are smash burgers and have a crispy edge. It tasted like an elevated big mac to me. I did think even for rude dude the size is a bit small so the sides helped fill us up. The coleslaw is not a creamy coleslaw, more a vinaigrette which was good but portion was too small. They had some seats there but for a Sunday lunch it was all filled up. I think because it was so busy the workers were slightly flustered. She said it would be about 10 min wait, I think I waited closer to 20-25 mins. Had the Big Rudy and made the mistake of not asking what the difference was between this and the double cheese burger (Rude Dude). I assumed it was 3 patties but instead it's actually a "Big Mac" like version which means extra bun and sauce. My fault for not asking but also their fault for not putting a description up. I was lucky that they were open on the New Years and ended up ordering: The Rudy - this was a cheeseburger with the delicious Rudy Sauce - which I LOVED! I don't expect a lot from fast food, but this place is way below average. I order two Rudy burgers (bogo deal) and a side of fries. The burgers were bland, under-seasoned and dry. If not for the sauce to save it, they would have been pretty dreadful. The fries were horrible. They were tough and chewy, like the fries came in frozen or were incredibly stale (and should have stopped serving them). I actually broke a fry in half and it was a clean break and the insides were rock hard. French fries should be light on the inside and crispy and seasoned on the outside. These were heavy and thick on the inside, and barely a crunch to them. They were also under-seasoned. They were so tough to bite into that I had to throw them out. Disgusting. Really disappointing, even for fast food. There are many places in Etobicoke that are better than this, including McDonalds. Avoid like the plague - they serve stale food. read more

I ordered the Rudy Burger and my husband ordered the Rude Dude Burger - both burgers taste pretty good almost comparable to the Shake Shack Burger in NYC. Very soft burger bun, resembling a brioche bun. Not oily like Burger Priest. We shared one side of fries and one of their home made brownies. We read an excellent review in Toronto North Newspaper acknowledging its top quality smash burger. It was delicious without the cheese but added the bacon. I got the Rudy burger with bacon and did enjoy but I do find the burgers expensive for what you get. They seem a little on the small side. What a disappointment. Rudy's was recommended by a friend, but found it not very satisfying. Ordered the Rudy which is their classic burger I presume. Main disappointment was the size of the actual beef patty - tiny, and super thin. The patty was over cooked and so because it was so thin, it tasted like cardboard. The burger as a whole (bun, sauce, veg) itself tasted ok, but when I'm paying $8.50 for a burger, I would expect it to taste more than ok. Great location right off the QEW. Only dinging it a star for the fact my order of fried pickles was all clumped together as nearly one big piece. Hard to share like that. Other then that food was great. Got 2 rudy burgers tattooed, a valentino and a shake for the kid. They left the sauce on the side which was great in preventing the buns to get mushy.
