I had them dry clean a very expensive Adventure motorcycle jacket. When I picked it up the road grime I wanted removed were still there (see pics)!! It's as if they did nothing to the jacket whatsoever. The lady who took my payment acted like this was the norm and made absolutely no effort to make it right (ie: by trying again). After reading the generally bad reviews on Rudy's and hearing some other bad things about them via word-of-mouth, I was pleasantly surprised by their service. The staff at the desk were polite during both visits. They were FAST and I was able to pick up my two items at 3 pm the next day, even though I was an hour early. Although my clothes weren't particularly soiled when I brought them, I think they did an acceptable job of cleaning and pressing them, and the paper tags were stapled into the tags of the shirt and the dress, NOT the fabric itself! Hooray! The only negative comment I have is the expense. My rayon/nylon work dress cost almost $11 to clean, whereas it cost less than half that in a northern VA dry cleaner. The dress shirt was pretty standard cost, a little over $5. My friend graciously drove me to the store to drop off my clothes, but it turned out it was just as easy to take the UTS bus down JPA. Although I picked Rudy's because it was pretty convenient, I won't hesitate to go there again (provided there's good service in the future!) when I need to have clothes dry-cleaned in Charlottesville. read more

BEWARE! I went to Rudy's to have my business dress clothes dry cleaned. There was a guy at the counter training a woman. I explained that, in the past, other dry cleaners had shrunk my pants and that I knew this because the lining in the pants was hanging out lower than the pants. We went through each pair of pants and I showed them that the lining wasn't hanging out from the bottom. The guy assured me that my pants wouldn't be shrunk. I returned to pick up my clothes and drop off another pair of pants. The same woman was there. We looked at the pants I was dropping off to verify that the lining wasn't hanging out. I picked up and paid for the clothes I had previously dropped off. After returning home, I checked all of the pants and found that two pairs had been shrunk. When I returned to pick up the other pair of pants, I took back the shrunken pairs. The same woman was there. I explained the issue, knowing that she wouldn't be able to do anything since she was new. We then looked at the pants I was picking up and they had been shrunk as well. I left the clothes and she put a note on them for the manager/owner to address. The next day I received a call from a man at Rudy's. He proceeded to tell me that had he been there when I initially came to drop off my clothes, he would have never accepted my business. He told me to come pick up my clothes and never come back. I explained to him the sequence of events (that we checked all of the pants, etc.) and advised that I just needed to know what would be done to rectify the situation. The man then asked "Are you telling me that the pants are brand new and you've never taken them to the cleaners? I said that I wasn't saying that at all, only that the pants were fine before and now the lining is hanging out, hence, they were shrunk. The man went on to say that Rudy's has been using the same process since 1936 and that he has people trying to "swindle" him all the time; thereby, accusing me of trying to swindle him. I stated that I had been nothing but cordial and calm throughout this incident, that I had not been rude to his staff, and from the beginning of our conversation, he was rude, had an attitude and had accused me of lying and trying to "swindle" him. I then raised my voice and told him that I would be telling the people that referred me what kind of treatment I'd received. I went back to pick up my clothes. The same woman was there. I asked for a refund. She said that she couldn't do that. I left my clothes and she attached a note for the manager/owner to address. The next day at 6:30am, I received a call from the rude Rudy's man. He told me that I would not be receiving a refund and to come pick up my clothes and never come back. He stated that if I came back and caused another disturbance, he would call the police. He advised that he had cameras in his store and that he would know. I stated "I encourage you to check your footage from yesterday and you'll see that I didn't cause a disturbance." He stated "That's not what the 73 year old woman that works here said." A friend that referred me to this place went to pick up my clothes because I didn't want to be falsely accused again of something that I hadn't done. The same woman was there. He asked her if I had caused a disturbance and she said "no". I have NEVER been treated as ugly by a business as I was by Rudy's nor have I ever been threatened to have the police called on me. I have also never been accused of trying to swindle anyone. If this man supposedly has people trying to swindle him all the time, isn't it possible that some of these people are telling the truth? Maybe Rudy's needs to take some responsibility and stop accusing everyone that has an issue of lying and trying to cheat them. Maybe if they've been using the same process since 1936, potentially their process could be antiquated and not work well with today's materials. I don't know how this place is still in business if this is the way they treat their customers. read more

Buttons on my Express dress shirts were melted/cracked My LRG coat (~$250) was not pressed well - still wrinkly. Color was a little faded. They staple the tags INTO the shirts, rather than stapling the tags around the shirt label. A bit more expensive than other places I've been to. The quality was not worth the price. Definitely won't be coming to this place again. read more

This is by far the worst dry cleaners I have ever gone to. I had 1 suit and 3 shirts dry cleaned. A brief list of things that went wrong: - They staple the tags into the shirts. - They used permanent marker to mark my shirt that didn't come in the wash. - There was a stain around my collar that I specifically pointed out that came out when I took it to Skyline Cleaners. - There were deep wrinkles in several of my shirts. I will never go here again and I can't believe how bad this place was. read more

This is the worst dry-cleaners ever. It was like they just bagged by clothes up after I delivered them, and said, "Done". My sweater was not clean, it was full of lint. They do sloppy work and have no attention to detail. It was after several minutes of arguing with an employee about how I not only have to wear this unsightly sweater, but then tell them that the drycleaning was done at Rudy's, that he offered to clean it himself. I picked up a coat today and it was terrible. It was full of lint, animal hair, and I had to use a roller to get it all off. Why am I paying $11 dollars to do their job? Very disappointing Rudy's. You have lost a customer. You have no professionalism and no attention to detail. read more

They lost my wedding dress, but they made me a new one! It was even better than the custom one I paid Karl Lagerfield to make.

This is regarding the Rudy's off Preston (in the "house" store). Shirts came back starched even though I have been a customer for over 6 months, coming in every week seeing the same two ladies who i always request "no starch". But that wasn't the issue. One of the shirts had starch stains on the sleeve. I didn't even wear it but brought back still on the hanger with the tag stapled to the shirt. They would not redo the shirt free because I didn't have the receipt! I always remove the plastic bag which has the receipt stapled to it so,yes, no receipt, no redo. I left Brown's Cleaners who kept ruining my dress shirts but at least they recognized when something needed to be redone...at no charge please. Guess it's back to Skyline, which is not as convenient, but at least customer service oriented. read more

I've been going to Rudy's for years....and they have always done a great job! Pet hair, urine stains on wool blankets, red wine on dress shirts, make up on silk, they always get it out or try twice! I also take in alterations which they've always taken an extra effort to be sure it's a perfect fit! Replacing zippers in jackets is my usual request!. I love Rudy's and now my daughter in law is hooked on them after trying the two other cleaners in Barracks' Rd. read more

I am writing this on behalf of my son who is a student at UVA and is no longer a regular customer of this establishment. This shop lost his shirt and when he asked them to look for it they were irate and wouldn't even consider that they might have made a mistake. I would expect any dry cleaner to occasionally lose something, but their arrogance and unwillingness to correct a mistake is intolerable. read more

This is literally the worst business I've come across in Charlottesville. Not only did they absolutely shred my antique rug, they refused to acknowledge that they had totally ruined it and couldn't have been more rude or unhelpful. And this is after years of business. Some time ago I took two suits in to be cleaned. Since I am retired I don't wear the suits very often. Finally I got one out and wore it only to discover the one sleave was spotted. The following week I got the other suit out and took it on a trip. When I put it on I discovered what looked like a wet spot on the paints leg. But it wasn't wet but was very stiff. I took the pants back in today to ask what the spot was and the clerk didn't have the faintest idea what caused the spot. She said I needed the original tag and receipt for them to do anything. Those were discarded long ago. There was no offer of any help with the spot and she acted like she could care less. I left feeling very angry!!! Very poor customer relations! read more

DO NOT USE THIS DRY CLEANER! The very worst experience. These people don't understand customer service. Dress shirt all of the sudden had spots all over the front and back and blazer looked as thought it wasn't even touched. Everything was wrinkled worse than when it was brought in. As my wife tried to pick up dry cleaning and suggested she shouldn't have to pay for items that looked terrible, was told by the owner "go elsewhere and if they can do better, I'll refund your money...you will pay for these items or I'll call the police". What a complete jerk! DO NOT USE THIS DRY CLEANER!!!!!!! I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau...it really is that bad! read more
