During the adoption process we found out that Susie was around 1 year old and found as a stray with her kittens. She was almost dead from lack of food, but was continuing to nurse her kittens regardless of her own health. Once her kittens and her were returned to full health she was spayed, but her body reacted badly procedure and once again she almost died. The shelter kept giving her continuos care and once again returned her to full health, and that is when we found her. I cannot thank this shelter enough for caring to help her through her tough young life and not giving up and euthanizing her. She is a great cat and I am so happy to have supported such a great shelter! Give this shelter a look if you're looking to adopt!

I am a disabled combat veteran, but do not qualify for a 'service animal' from non-profits because I do not have the 'correct' diagnosis, even though I suffer from the same exact symptoms as those with PTSD. My wife's mother, who lives in Europe, recently had a stroke and my wife has been by her side since early August. If I hope to see my wife at all over the next several years, because of her and my commitment to ensure that her mother gets the care and attention she deserves, we needed to be much closer than the Pacific NW, hence our uprooting. In order to have Kemper fly with me in the cabin on a grueling 10-hour trans-Atlantic flight, he needed some several skills which he was lacking when we adopted him from the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society after six years of being abandoned and abused, for no reason, by one owner after another. Even with his unjust and unconscionable treatment early in life, he is one of the sweetest and dogs I have ever known. Julie and Kemper quickly developed a strong bond and she was willing to work with me one-on-one, tailoring a training plan for both of us to get us where we need to be with just two months before boarding the plane. Having a Master's in Psychology, I am an expert in operant and classical conditioning, but lacked the understanding of how dogs think, so Julie was training both of us along the way. Kemper picked-up on things quickly and me, not so much, but we were compelled to get the job done and succeed in our mission, no room for error. Paws Down is not exactly cheap when it comes to private training, but Julie did not charge for travel time to our home and routinely stayed after the allotted one-hour appointment times. Yesterday, less than two months after starting with Julie, Kemper passed his AKC Canine Good Citizen test and his certificate is on the way, arriving well before we need it for travel to our new home. A little over two years ago my mom fostered for street sauvy dog rescue again but, this time it was me who fell in love.When I walked into moms for a surprise visit I saw a very nervous GSD hiding in his crate. I asked mom if I could take him on a walk to get him some enrichment. He was shy and very cautious on the leash, walked with me and was following my lead, he couldn't have been better on that walk. The second I got home I knew I wanted to take him home, so I filled out an application and once approved got him home. I was 19 at the time and Kirby was my first ever adult purchase! Lol! I am now 21 and he is 3. The dog I brought home is not longer shy, scared of tvs, fearful of anything nor is he afraid of car rides. I now have a very BRAVE, adventurous, strong willed/ minded, Sweet, caring, gentle, and affectionate beast of a boy . After some testing (for the obvious) we found out he has a fair amount of Belgian Mal. Had I not grown up around dogs my whole life he wouldn't have been the right fit as I wouldn't know how to handle him. That is the only thing that may not have been the greatest as he was listed as only a GSD which is true however, some people are not educated well enough for this breed. Belgians are just a whole different breed, I mean this dog climbs trees and perches on couches like a bird if that gives you an idea. We will be adopting from them again in a few years I'm sure. Our girls are getting older and he will need a companion. The process to apply was easy, Barb. Met up with me during my school lunch hour to fill out applications for him, she made the whole process from start to finish a breeze. He came with his leash, harness and collar (collar after two years and lots of adventures is still in good condition) plus some food and a toy. He also came with flea meds and lots of preventative medication and was already fixed! WOOT WOOT! He DID have kennel cough when we first brought him home but it was a very mild case that we got taken care of promptly after we found out, the older girls did not catch it. He also was transported from Texas so I already knew something like that could have been possibility . In some of the photos he may have long nails, only as of the last six months has he let anyone trim his nails. This took a lot of training and positive reinforcement to get here. During this time he went on lots of walks to keep them as filed as possible.

Since that time, he has worked with me with other fosters and now my 6-month old puppy. I have had dogs my whole life but after one afternoon working with Charles, I learned a new (and better) way to interact with them which has relieved some of the anxiety and stress that comes from owning a reactive dog. Charles calm demeanor and empathetic style of teaching is exactly what most dogs (and owners) need. I especially recommend enlisting Charles help if you have attended those pet store training classes that award you certificates but you still have a dog that doesn't listen, has poor recall, or is reactive on walks. Best of all, Charles has classes outdoors in real world environments where we actually exist with our dogs.

I worked with Ren with my dog, Ella. Ella was a COVID puppy, and did not get socialized as well as…read moreour first dog. We had a small community of people and friend dogs that she played with regularly, but we started to notice that she would be incredibly reactive with dogs and people she didn't know. After her first heat, we also started to see aggression (with dogs, not people) and her barking (and it was a mean bark, not a 'hey I want to meet you' bark) at people got so bad we couldn't take her anywhere where she might be within 6 feet of another person. If we were playing fetch at a park, she would bolt a solid 50 feet over to another dog and their family aggressively barking at them too. I had some knowledge about using an e-collar but wanted to do it alongside a trainer and that's when I found Ren. Ren gave me guidance on how to use both a prong and e-collar for a more balanced training approach, and provided me with drills and exercises to deal with Ella's overall anxiety and reactivity. What I appreciated most about Ren is that she took time to figure out what works best for Ella and gave me several ways to work with her instead of just one way. 2 months later I can take Ella places that weren't possible before, like inside a pet store or at a crowded park, we can walk by other dogs on a wide road, I can talk to my neighbors when we're out on walks, she can settle and STAY in her place at home when our guests bring their pup over, and she even played with another dog other than her brother after a week of pack walks and co existing indoors! Overall Ella is happier to meet strangers and I can tell she is trusting me to give her direction when she's in a situation that makes her nervous with other dogs. We are very pleased with our experience and the knowledge that Ren gave us and would recommend her 100%!

I have a doberman that I've been challenged with for a few years. She's not mean, never has gotten…read moreinto a fight but she's had a nervous problem and would not calm down and and relax. She was running around constantly and getting into trouble, stealing food. If we had company she would continually annoy everyone. This went on for several years. I was upset and not able to decide if I should find her a new home and let someone else deal with this problem. I've had other dobermans that we're easier and I have loved the breed. I spoke to Ren who was hopeful she could settle her down if we did a 5 day board and train. I agreed and she took her and worked with her. When I got her back she was a changed dog. Ren had trained her on a prong collar and also an e-collar. For the first time in years Coco listening. Ren taught me how to change my approach to Coco so she didn't return to old habits. We are doing great and she is a pleasure to have around now. She listens to commands and settles down when I tell her to. I enjoyed her positive approach and how she was super knowledgeable. You can just tell she really loves her job and cares about helping people. I had previously been having issues getting my puppy into obedience classes and was actually asked to leave a group class once because my puppy was too aggressive with others. Deborah taught me the skills to get on my dog's level and find a way to help her be more behaved and overall strengthen our relationship. We worked on many things, everything from jumping, to sitting and waiting for food, and she even helped me take my dog on a walk to work on leash pulling. One of the best parts about Patient Pawz I feel is that Deborah not only lives up to the name by being patient with puppies, she is also extremely patient with owners and really does work to find a time that fits with your schedule as well.
