No straight answer on how our dog was killed in this facility. Just more threats. Lots of word salad on how the videos of a dog less than 40 pounds cleared an 8-foot concrete wall isn't available. Even years later, my phone blows up with all sorts of crazy accusations and stories. It's rather interesting. She's died many ways apparently. My dog was killed in your care, and you did nothing about it but threaten me. The lawsuit backfired due to the threats, and taking away my rights. Didn't pay for her cremation, but tried to put me in prison for extortion because I told him I would not take the review down. Then tried to sue me for 80k...is that what it was? No training for the people. I brought 2 strong working breed dogs to Chris. When time to come get them, we were given a 30 minute explanation on how to use the shock collar and a demonstration on them doing a sit, place, off, etc. No instruction on how to continue the training. It doesn't stick if the humans don't continue the training. I'm now paying again (in time and funds) to train them myself. I'm trying DigitalDogSchool with Joel and turning life into a game we play together. University K9 was a waste of time and money. read more

I was anxiously trying to find a dog trainer, less than 2 weeks before I had to go into a double lung surgery. My dog Blaze, was a hard leash puller, and overall, had terrible puppy manners, and I didn't want him ripping my stitches open after my surgery. We rescued an abused doberman at the age of 7 months old. The prior owner kept him in a wire kennel in the garage 23 out of 24 hours a day. The prior owner's friends would tease the dog and feed him cigarettes to make him dependent on nicotine- they were trying to make a mean watchdog. He became so aggressive and unsocialized that the owner was barely able to approach the kennel to feed him. I told the prior owner if he got in my truck I would take him. So, this is how I came to own this messed up dog. I am female, so he did not have issues with me. I have owned dobies in the past, and understand firm but fair leadership is what these dogs thrive with. However, Caesar, did not respond well with my adult son who also lived on the property with us. My son has dark hair and a beard and is male- very reminiscent to his prior abusers. Caesar attacked my son several times. The only chance this dog had for survival was to get professional training. He was a fear biter, and easily triggered. Chris took the challenge. He had Caesar for almost 2 months for full immersion training. When we picked Caesar up, he was so happy to see us. Chris demonstrated the commands learned. We brought home a much more confident dog. We had to protect Caesar from situations where it was predictable he would fail; around small children, around people who could not resist to pet him, he was muzzled when in public, and put away when we had visitors to the house. He was a perfect loving dog to those he accepted into his pack. We had the honor of loving him until his untimely death at the age of 6 years due to DCM (Dilated Cardiac Myocardium), a genetic disorder from poor breeding practices. Caesar was a member of our family, even with his quirks. Had Chris not been able to turn things around, Caesar would have been euthanized before the age of one due to abuse; he was a 120 lb dangerous and unpredictable dog. Chris helped him overcome his fear and respond to commands. I am forever grateful for Caesar's life. Next month, I am having Chris and his staff train our new 4 month old doberman, Ruger. Because I could not bear another tragic heartbreak due to poor breeding practices, I shopped for a reputable breeder with European bloodlines and proof of recessive and dominant genetic testing to produce a healthy puppy. Ruger's odds to have about 10 genetic problems are far less coming from healthy parents. I wish I didn't have to write this review, but I don't want others to have to go through this. We brought our German Shepherd puppy to University K9 for Board and Train. He was 100% healthy and vaccinated just a typical high energy working line puppy. We read reviews and visited with Craig to discuss our puppy. I wish we had seen ALL reviews. Before we even saw our dog, there was an air of impatience to pay the balance of training. After we paid we were told that "oh, by the way, (they) found out there was a round of kennel cough brought in by a dog, and if our dog got sick to let them know, and they would pay the bill." Then our dog came out. When we picked up our dog, he was 40-45 lbs underweight (per the ER Vet) even though we were told that they "would always send home a fat dog but never a skinny one because they feed more as the dogs are in work." We did speak up about his condition, and Craig responded, "huh...yeah, I guess he is a little skinny." We had brought more than enough high quality kibble for him. We noticed our dog being rather sluggish with a small cough. Something wasn't right, but at the time we thought maybe he was just tired from working. We also noticed our dog wouldn't lay on its stomach without several attempts. On our way home, we were upset. Our dog started coughing. We decided to take him to the ER Vet because he was laying on his side with labored breathing and coughing. I am glad we did. When we arrived at the Clackamas VCA, they asked what kennel. We told them, and they said we were the second or third dog in the past two days who came in sick. The Vet immediately commented on his weight and said he was 40-45 lbs underweight and a 1.5 on the BCS rating from 1-9 with 1 being nearly dead from starvation to a 9 being nearly dead from obesity. The Vet said he had probably stopped eating from being sick and wasn't sure why no one noticed. X-Rays and more tests later, and Odin was diagnosed with kennel cough pneumonia (kennel cough that becomes pneumonia due to exhaustion/lack of care). Per the Vet, "had he been there another week, he would be dead." I was upset wondering why no one called us. After our several hundreds of dollars visit, we reached out to Craig who did hold up his end of his statement and reimbursed THAT Vet visit. It took two additional Vet visits, a second round of heavy antibiotics, and x-rays before Odin was healthy. Now that he was healthy, we noticed the "training" he underwent clearly didn't stick...probably because he was so sick. I can't imagine him even moving out of his kennel. We flushed $1300 down the drain for training as we refuse to send him back there or have anyone from there come to our home. We are just glad our dog survived. I am not sure who did the care or training on our dog as I'd like to believe a trainer would be able to tell a change in a dog's energy level, weight loss, and cough. Please be sure to read all reviews and ask veterinarians local to a kennel before bringing your dog there. read more

I adopted a Sable German Shepard from the Longview Dog Shelter. He is 2.5 years old and was abused by the previous owner. He was so disruptive to the shelter they could not control him. They gave out an emergency call to Fur Friends Rescue to fine a new home for this dog. That's how I came into his life. Fur Friends Rescue contacted me and had me go to the shelter and pick him up. When I brought him home I had a hard time controlling him. I tried to get the vets to give him his required shots and that became an adventure. I could not get my friends to come over to the house. I could not even take him anywhere without him charging at people and dogs. I contacted University K-9 out of Portland, Chris ford is the head trainer there. He took my dog, Sargent King, and work with him for three weeks. It cost me $1,300 for three weeks of boarding and training. The end result is that Sargent King now walks on a leash without tugging, respects other people, and I can take him to places with large groups of people without the fear of him biting anyone. He also works without the leash. According to Chris, Sargent King was being a big jerk. This was due to him being chained up and having no social interaction with people and other animals. Chris Ford, saved my dogs life. Without his help I would have had no other option to have Sargent King put down. Sargent King is a completely different dog than what I gave Chris in the beginning. We took our 1-year-old Mini-Aussie here for training, and it was the best investment we could have made. Our pup was having issues with demand barking as well as leash pulling and lunging at bikes, runners and even cars. My five month old lab puppy was out of control before his three week board and train with Chris. He would bite me all over my arms and legs, jump on everyone, pull on his leash, bark incessantly when left alone, and chew everything in the house. I was not quite convinced that my out of control puppy would come back any different then when he went in. I can not thank university k9 enough . About a year ago we decided to invest some real dollars in our rescue dog Curly. He was an aggressive dog picking fights at dog parks. So much so that it was strongly hinted that perhaps we should not return. We sent Curly to Chris at University K9's Board & Train for 3 weeks. What a difference! Today I walk Curly and our other dog for 2 miles off-leash, mostly on heel. I'm rating University K9 5 stars, not only for the skills but also for their continual communications between trainer and owner. Even though I visited my dog frequently over the three weeks she was there, Chris was always available to answer questions, and he even sent me video clips of her doing walking on and off leash training. I must add, however, some caveat to my feedback. My dog was five months old when I took her to Chris. She exhibited out of control behavioral problems, and I worried about the effect she was having on my 79 year old mother our family canines (two of which are 100+ pounds). My main concern was getting her behavior under control while she was young and before it escalated as she got older. She's a herding dog, and that's what dogs like her do. She was using her inbred skills aggressively towards everyone by biting and jumping on them, and nothing I tried or learned was having an effect on her. I had put her through training classes and had another trainer come into the home and nothing was working. I was so upset by her behavior that I almost thought about rehoming her, but when I thought about that, I would get very emotional because I really loved her and well, you just don't give up on family. I did not want to do that. Board and train is not a magic bullet. Board and train provides the foundation training that a dog responds to. This is half the job. Once the dog comes home, everything that the dog has been taught goes out the door unless the owner takes the time to continue to build on the foundation that Chris has laid. Chris typically works with dogs with highly aggressive behaviors (worse than my dog), but he took my dog and really worked with her aggressive tendencies, then taught me and my family how to continue to work with her after she went home. I have to report, she is amazing. A totally different dog. She still gets very excited like she wants to fall back into her old habits (and yes, sometimes she slips), but she is so much more controlled about it. She's so happy to see everyone that comes into her life, but she sits for them now with her tail a going crazy like you can see it in the back of her mind all that intensity and excitement, yet very controlled. No more jumping or biting. I'm a very satisfied customer. In addition to the training being cost friendly in comparison to other board and trains, I highly recommend University K9 to anyone who has a dog with medium to very aggressive and/or violent behaviors. Craig and his team are excellent trainers with many tips and tools to successfully train any dog. He trained our big, goofy (but stubborn) dogs to be well mannered family pets. Some of the obedience training that has been most useful have been "come" when called, not bolting out the front door if kids have left it open, not jumping on people and staying in their place when someone comes over or the doorbell rings. What a fantastic job they did with my dog. We walk every single day and it is such a pleasure instead of a wrestling match. When we go to the dog park, she COMEs when I call her, no more enticing her with a treat. I am loving this place already - plus, Craig is just awesome. We are half way through our training program and I couldn't be happier that we went with University K9. I had spent weeks contacting different trainers and none really seemed like a good fit. Some trainers, honestly, just seemed to have serious control issues... I don't want my dog to be military-like or roboticly waiting for the next command. She (a bulldog) has such a fun, playful, goofy personality and I don't want her to lose that.
