Came in and there was NO WAIT - which is always a plus! We were seated at the bar and Chip, the bartender, began to take care of us. The menu here, I think, is a little different, but I was excited to try something new. I ended up getting the 'Southern Fried Chicken Cornbread Sliders' and they really GOODT (with a t...lol)! They were really busy, but our food came out pretty quick! The staff was exceptional. They are opened for Dinner only which starts at 5. If you're ever in the area, give them a try! read more

First time here for a friend's birthday. Our server was friendly and attentive. It was a bit crowded and loud. Our food was lukewarm to cold and taste was average. We sent a drink back (the whiskey fig one) which tasted completely of lime. When we received the bill, the drink that was sent back (after a sip) was not taken off. This is a beatuful place for southern food. An extremly large party was sat just prior us being sat, so this does color the review. We had long wait times and lukewarm food. This does not appear to normally be the case. The staff did look like they were tryin their bast, and the owner was walking around try to help anyway they could. We tried the queso, island burger, and the fried chicken waffle sliders. The queso was a great concept but was extremly salty. Burger was look warm and little overcooked. The Waffle Sliders were amazing, but the fries were cold. All of the food was good in concept just this day was not executed well Overall i still think this place is worth a visit. Busy place, so definitely need reservations, and don't trust the Yelp online one to work. We had used that, but informed it wasn't working properly with their system upon arrival, so call to be sure. They were able to work us into the bar area. Cocktails were truly special and crafted. We've enjoyed Rumcow tremendously in the past however it's been a few years since we visited. Tonight, the atmosphere was the same, open and slightly loud as most bistro type places are downtown. The chairs were still as uncomfortable as always but we've typically looked past it because the food is always great. Unfortunately, tonight the cocktail was really heavy on the orange juice (really too bad as I look forward to that Painkiller the most) the Brussels app was overcooked and more burned than charred and fairly devoid of flavor. My burger was also overcooked and nothing special. The fries were lukewarm and undersalted. The chicken and waffles were good, thankfully as we had really talked it up to our son. I was disappointed though as they changed the hot honey/syrup they used to have to a container of maple syrup and one of straight hot sauce. Service was overall friendly and good including bring out my corrected order after I pointed out that the wrong burger came out the first time. We have historically raved about this restaurant and won't completely write it off but it might be awhile till we go back. read more

A group of us made reservations to come here prior to going on a walking ghost tour, and we had a lovely experience. Frankly, we had a very difficult time deciding what we wanted to order, because everything on the menu sounded delicious! We ended up ordering several different items and sharing. First, we started off with the queso cheese dip, which was a blend of goat cheese, gruyere cheese, and avocado - so interesting! It came with a bountiful supply of chips. We also ordered the Cordon Bleu fries, which thin cut spuds with fried spinach, basil, prosciutto, gruyere, and bacon aioli layered on top. It was so good! Then, some of us opted for some healthy dishes, including the grilled chicken salad and char crusted tuna (both of which were reportedly delicious). Others of us opted for the less healthy but too-good-to-pass-up choices. I went with the Nashville fried chicken and waffle sliders, which come with Sriracha hot honey and maple butter. Although I was so full that I was a little uncomfortable, I have no regrets. It was fantastic! The prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Mixed bag for my experience at Rumcow. Nice atmosphere and decor. Ordered a few drinks to start which came out decently quick and were pretty good. Got different apps to share, brussel sprout app was way too small, tuna tacos were great. Had some salads which were nothing special and the burger was decent. The real problem was food took almost an hour to come out and was sporadic on what came out, leaving some people with no food while others had their full meals. I am an all American, beer loving, burger eating kind of girl. I'm always on the hunt for a high quality, not too greasy or over stacked, affordable, well cooked burger, and Rum Cow's got it! The Rum Cow Burger is topped with prosciutto, bacon aioli, peach rum chutney and arugula, served up on a brioche bun; like the restaurant itself, it's the perfect combination of fancy and casual! Rum Cow is located downtown, adjacent to Front St, the main downtown street filled with bars, restaurants, shopping and entertainment, and just a couple blocks from the Cape Fear Riverwalk. It's an intimate setting with primarily small group tables and bar seating. They do take requests for larger parties with call ahead notice. They also have Delivery and Takeout options through the Yelp app. If you're looking for a nice intimate spot to host your rehearsal dinner or other private party, they offer the upstairs deck free of charge (last I heard), which seats 25. Being that their name is "Rum" Cow, most of their cocktails are rum based and range from $6-10. Ironically, Rum is the one spirit I do not ever indulge in, however, I still strongly recommend this bar as I've had ever other drink on their menu and loved them all! If I had to choose a favorite it would be the Fig Town which consists of Bulliet Whiskey, lime juice, local cinnamon fig jam, and orange bitters. The Spiced Peach Marg (with no triple sec) would be my second choice, and the Smokin' Gun would be my third. Rum Cow is top of my list for date night spots in the Wilmington area. Great for dinner, drinks and walking downtown/the riverwalk, post indulgence. Singles, no need to feel left out, this is also one of my favorite spots to go grab dinner and a drink alone after work, sitting at the bar and catching up on phone notifications, etc. The parking sitch is hit or miss - Sometimes street parking is open right out front, metered but free after 6:30 pm. Other times I park in one of the many parking garages around the area that are free for the first 90 minutes. Once you're parked, you can pretty much walk to everything you need in this area. Our family of five came before a comedy show. Our cocktails were subpar. We ordered several appetizers and some entrées; most were under salted and not very flavorful. The burger was not cooked the way it was ordered. The french fries were not seasoned at all. I will say that our waiter was friendly and efficient. I've been meaning to come here FOREVER so when we were deciding where to go for dinner last night, it was the obvious choice. We arrived around 7:30 and the place was pretty packed. The bar is full service, so we were able to snag seats there immediately. (Side note - one of the few places in town that takes reservations! I didn't know so we didn't have them, but I love that for next time). To start, I ordered a special, the Smokeshow. The mezcal, pineapple, and smoked salt made for an AMAZING drink. My husband got the classics daiquiri and it was also fantastic. Next up, we ordered the chicken salad to share, and I got the fried chicken sliders while he got the rum cow burger. There are very few salads I find worthy of more detail, but this one was excellent. I think a lot of the time very little focus is given to the chicken being thrown on the salad, but this one was seasoned really well and cooked perfectly. The chicken sliders were fried really well and I loved them on cornbread. The portion was pretty large - I could definitely split the salad and sliders and be satisfied. My husband enjoyed his burger as well; he did mention that he wished the burger itself had more seasoning but the toppings made up for it. We love this place! Great drinks, and really good, special food. When you go out, you want something different that you know you're paying for quality and that is exactly what you get here. My fiancé accidentally got the wrong order (it was loud, and the names are similar so the waitress probably heard a different name), but he said it was the best mistake because his burger was incredible. We always try to take our out of town guests here because it is so good. The seating is not the comfiest, and the room gets quite loud, but it is definitely a top pick in my house. read more

Oh my gosh- this was such a great find. I would not have found it except my realtor told me it was better than the Ruth Chris steak House in my hotel. It was a short walk from the river front and a cute charming eclectic little restaurant awaited! Everyone was so friendly and we were seated in a cute charming window seat. We ordered wine by the glass and we were told that the special that day was fresh black drum! Yes please. It was an incredibly large serving of fresh fish but I was not going to complain and I ate it all it was probably 10 to 12 ounces. It was so delicious served with a light complementary sauce over a bed of yummy risotto. My friend was really jealous although her shrimp entrée was really good. Rumcow has been on my list of places to try since I've moved to Wilmington. My boyfriend got us reservation on a saturday night which i was so excited for. We were seating upstairs near the speaker and the fans which I kind enjoyed. Our table was a bit small for my liking but i couldn't do much about. For drinks i got a wine which was delicious. For dinner my boyfriend for the special which was a blackened chicken with broccoli and sweet potato mash. I thought his chicken was so good and really met our standards. For my dinner I got the cornbread chicken sliders. Now this meal stole the show. The corn bread was delicious and warm and really complimented the fried chicken on top.
