My wife and I had never been here and based on the recommendation of my Dad we decided to give it a try. The staff was wonderful, the food was delicious. I don't remember what either of us had that night but we completely enjoyed our meals. The cheesecake that they had for dessert was very good, according to my wife. Went there because we couldn't decide where else to go. Never a first or even second choice for me. But... we went to King Neptune - gulp. What a pleasant surprise. I had a chicken thigh dinner - best I ever had. My beautiful partner had the shrimp and grits. I'm very picky here because I make an excellent New Orleans style shrimp and grits. Her dish was excellent. To my pleasant surprise the chef is Cuban, thus my chicken dish ( I think). I'm definitely going back and I noticed a Paella on the menu. Eight of us dined here for Valentine's Day. It was a first for all of us. There are two rooms: On the left when you enter is a very nice room with a large bar and where the room is bright and welcoming. The room on the right is very casual with bar, lots of décor on the wood walls. Very bar-like atmosphere. Lots of fun. Both rooms had TV's on the walls. We sat in the second room at some high tops. I saw that they had a few dishes with crab meat, so I ordered a cup of cream of crab soup. I originally wanted a side salad to go with my scallops with a lemon risotto, but they don't have side salad, just entrée salad. The entrée salads are perfect for two people to share. The soup was excellent. I'm very picky when it comes to crab, as I'm from Maryland. There wasn't much thickener (flour), so I was glad about that. The price was reasonable, $7.95 for a cup. I had the sautéed scallops (quantity of 5 medium size) with a lemon-flavored risotto, fried sage, very think fried bacon, and pomegranate seeds in a white sauce. While the risotto was flavorful, it was a little on the dry side. My husband had the fresh catch - grouper that was herb crusted, along with rice, a squash puree, herb butter, and basil microgreens. I had a bite. The fish was very good. My husband though there was too much on the plate as far as the puree goes. Other items ordered, which my friends enjoyed: Carrot ginger soups, Caesar salads, seafood Alfredo, blackened salmon, grilled ribeye, flounder picatta, and crab cakes. I got to try the crab cakes. No lump, just claw meat and some filler. Great service by our waitress (I forgot her name). Prices are on the high end, but we all enjoyed our dinner and time at King Neptune. Delicious. We've been in WB for over 13 years and have never ventured in. We heard they had recently renovated and that the food was good so while taking our walk, we decided to stop in for lunch and it did not disappoint. The inside is very refreshing and reflects the beach. The glass stingrays are really beautiful. Service was terrific from the moment we walked in. Our drinks were refilled right on time and she knew exactly when to come to the table. The food was so good that we ate every bite and even went for dessert at lunch. The tuna poke tacos have an ample amount of tuna and are well flavored. You get four so they are perfect for sharing. The French dip was well flavored. The steak was super moist, cooked just right, and the flavor was delicious. The dip sauce was nice as well. Desserts are made in house. We had the key lime pie and the banana pudding cheesecake. Went on a Saturday night without a reservation so we sat at a high top table in the bar area and were impressed with the service and promptness of food. Fun and lively atmosphere but it is very loud inside so if you're looking for a cozy, quiet meal, this is not it. The food was very good and I appreciated the attempt to jazz up the norm but I thought some of the elements just didn't fit. Loved the red pepper vinaigrette with the scallops but felt the pesto was competitive instead of complementary. Brussels were really good but needed a hit of salt to offset their bitterness especially paired with the balsamic glaze. The pickled onions were a nice compliment though. The wedge was supposed to be the fresh, crunchy element to my meal but it was so drenched in dressing that it was too heavy. I loved the combo of tomato, bacon and sunflower seeds but they were drowned out by dressing. All in all, good food, fun atmosphere and a place I'll recommend. read more

The best experience we had in Wilmington! The resturaunt may not look like it's anything special from the outside, but once you step inside you get an atmosphere of fine dining! We were seated immediately and waited upon quickly. They even offered to split the bill which was a big plus for us. Every dish we tested was immensely enjoyed. This place used to be so good but has gone downhill! The grilled Romain salad had absolutely no dressing with just a lemon wedge. I didn't notice any Parmesan cheese at all. The Penne Vodka pasta was overdone. The bred pudding desert was boring and dry. The cheesecake was cold and hard as a rock and barely any flavor. The food in general was very bland. The ambience was okay but the above the head spot lights were so bright and not welcoming. I don't think we will be back and we are local and used to live to come and bring friend visiting. The King Neptune has been around a long time. We hadn't been since the restaurant was updated and remodeled. We had heard good things and decided to go for dinner. The restaurant has two sections each with a bar. The food menu is the same. One side is more sleek and modern. The other is a little darker wood decor with more of a bar feel to it. We had reservations and were seated promptly. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and helped us decide on cocktails which were amazing. I ordered an old fashioned and my husband had an espresso martini. My old fashioned was excellent with the perfect twist of orange peel and a Luxardo cherry (no maraschino cherries here, thankfully!).The espresso martini had a pumpkin liqueur and was fall like and delicious. Perfect for the rainy evening we visited. King Neptune rotates their menu of dinner specials in addition to having a menu of regular dishes. Everything we tried was wonderful. Our appetizer of deviled eggs with fried oysters and caviar was as delicious as it was beautiful. It was a special and unfortunately not available regularly. My grouper with mango salsa, steamed rice, fried plantains and broccolini was also a special menu item. My husband chose from the regular menu and ordered flounder piccata. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and so flavorful. King Neptune locally sources fish from nearby Motts Channel Seafood and the quality is top notch. Last but not least, the restrooms (my husband vouched for the men's room) were spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. Fresh flowers and a wonderful scented candle were present in the ladies room. I usually don't mention restrooms, but I was so impressed that I even mentioned to the waitress how wonderful I found the attention to detail in the ladies room.. She said that they get routine compliments on the restrooms. Our entire experience from start to finish was outstanding at King Neptune. Highly recommend!! read more

Checking at the front and apparently an employee was in a hurry to ask me to move instead of waiting the extra 3 seconds for us to be seated. Staff is hanging around, cook on the phone, apparently the owner/chef owns a "happy" work place forgetting about professionalism and setting the standard. Served by Kim, and her service was wonderful, the food was good, the ambiance not bad, but that first impression of the lack of professionalism really ruined it for me. If you would like to eat here bring your noise canceling headphones! I feel very sorry for the employees because their hearing is getting damaged working at this establishment. I had my phone check the decibel levels and it spiked at 105. My ears hurt for hours afterwards. NOT OK! We did ask to be moved to a different table and it helped a little. I was very impressed by the newly updated King Neptune. It looks so different than what I remember. This was a great spot tonight for a party of 9. The acoustics were good and the service was, too. I ordered the ahi tuna tacos and mussels. Both were very good and both were spicier than I thought they would be. Several people at the table had the shrimp and grits and they loved them. It was presented beautifully. My son had the swordfish and the rest of the table had the hibachi Tuesday night special. The shrimp was so delicious. Everything tasted extremely fresh. I definitely enjoyed it here and would recommend it to people looking for good seafood on WB. It definitely beats the more touristy places buy without the view. We are on our annual Wrightsville Beach Girl's Trip. We've been hitting our usual spots with great success. Tonight we tried a "new to us" restaurant, King Neptune. I would call this restaurant classy casual. The dinner area is very nice, clean and modern. They open at 5:00 and we arrived at 5:15 with no reservation. We were seated right away at a 2 seat table on the wall. We started with the brussel sprouts appetizer, very tasty! I ordered the swordfish that was cooked PERFECTLY. Sherry ordered the scallops. Everything was so pretty and delicious! The Cadillac Margarita was in a large tiki totem glass with lovely garnishes, but it wasn't good. It didn't have any kick and it was extremely sour. I'm talking shivers and goosebumps sour. I kept stirring it and drank a 1/4 of mine thinking I would adapt. I didn't. Sherry stopped after the first taste. That was the only issue with our evening. Seeing how clean our kitchen is and how our food is prepared gives me even more to brag about because I've worked in some places with GROSS kitchens.
