Went to Rumors on a Saturday night and had a lot of fun! It has a wonderful atmosphere with all the art work on the walls and the fun dance floor. I didn't love how the bathroom stalls don't have doors (bring a friend to act as a wall). The people working in the entrance were also not very friendly. If the people working the front were nicer this place would be an easy 5 stars from me. I had a great time and I would definitely go back again! The workers are allowed to assault customers off shift and then blame them when trying to create space and tell them to stop. This place is a joke and would never recommend to anyone and hopefully the floor does not fall in on anyone as they have failed inspections in the past and barely passed the most recent one when the main owner died. read more

The place can get a little crowded, but overall I had a great time. Parking is limited. They do have a nice upstairs bar and lounge area if you just feel like chilling. We had a wonderful time dancing and laughing, but unfortunately I lost my wallet in the process and didn't notice until the next day. I called during the afternoon and couldn't believe that someone answered the phone. They had my wallet, safe and sound! I had anxiety all night about it, especially since we were traveling. It was my first night, and it was just what I expected and a little more. They do a good job with security, DJ was okay, pretty much what to expect at a little local night club. The decor was awesome and the upstairs was a nice calmer place if you need to step away from the clutter of people. There were some things they can't control on the dance floor, but if something got out of hand, there's security around so I felt fine. The upstairs area is the best, there's a pool table, areas to sit, and there's a bar upstairs. The downstairs is more for dancing and hanging out. Music is really good, atmosphere is very club like, which isn't a bad thing if that's what you're looking for. The major cons of the place...the bartenders! I've went twice to this place, and had a different bartender every time and both times they seemed annoyed by me just for ordering one drink. Guess I was wasting their time even if they were clocked in? I had one female bartender who seemed annoyed with our group of five...even though we all got the same thing of pineapple vodka. Maybe the easiest thing to make other then opening a can of beer? Second time I went, had a male bartender (upstairs) who was chatting up with his friend that was at the bar and completely ignoring me. And we were the only people at the bar. Which I wasn't annoyed by (at first) I paused my job before to talk to my friends that came in to see me. But it got really annoying when he walked right past me to get something for her and keep talking. It was a couple minutes before I finally got my drink, which is a long time when you're the only customer at the bar. And another thing I never heard of...my friend wanted to close his tab and reopen it downstairs...he was told that if he closed it and then reopened it he would get charged $10?!?? The credit machines were down apparently and the bartender on the second level was a real dick honestly when my friend and I didn't know amd tried to pay. We went to the atm to get cash and he wouldn't serve us again. We then had an unfortunate incident when my friend sat on a small table thinking it was an ottoman and it broke. I tried paying for the table and the manager wouldn't even let me speak or acknowledge me and kept saying he "didn't trust me" when all I was doing was trying to make it right. I used to love this place. But after that crap I will absolutely never recommend it. a group from my wedding was planning on going there in a week. I have to start out by saying maybe it's me- Maybe I am just too old for this night club. It's a younger crowd and everybody is wasted. I came here years ago and I had fun. The music was ok, not great. I got a vodka and Sprite. There was something black floating in it, but they remade it no problem. My friend couldn't drink her draft beer, it tasted off, maybe the lines need cleaning? It was Bells 2Hearted, which she had on draft at the bar we went to right before and enjoyed. Drag shows every tuesday and sunday. Tuesday is the amateur drag show. Lots of Drag competitions on almost a monthly basis too. Corky is a wonderful daytime bartender. Also has drag karaoke on Monday nights which is a great substitute now that Diversions is closed. Thursday is thier half off drinks night and is always proved to be a crazy time with great club music. Monthly summer foam parties. read more

So I went here quite a bit while I was still living in Michigan, Thursday nights are the best! A group of us would hit up the bar next door, and then walk here to end the night with dancing and cheap drinks. We would call these Thursday...Thursgays. I'm calling this Gay Nightclub a dive, because of the ambiance and the outside of it, I would consider it a dive nightclub rather than a classy, upscale one. But It's still a blast. They do have a cover I believe every night which kinda stinks, but the drag shows on the weekends make up for it, and the music and everyone there is so friendly. Expect to run in to a few people you know, especially on Thursgays! I'm giving four starts because...I was ready to leave and I had to close out my tab, and the one bartender that was managing the busy bar accidentally switched up the cards with a different Jessica. and I didn't notice it till the next morning. Thankfully they were really helpful and let me come by as early as 10 in the morning to pick up the right card. They really should have had at least one other bartender behind the bar for the amount of people that were there that night. read more

Back in November, my friend and I went here to dance and have a good time and it was so packed, you could barely find a spot on the dancefloor. My friend was trying to squeeze his way to the men's room and accidentally knocked a girl's drink over. Some angry drunk guy (presumably her boyfriend) was shouting at him and then attacked him as he tried to get away from him. He tackled my friend out onto the dancefloor and puched him mercilessly until the security guards were able to get him off of my friend. I didnt realize it was my friend that was involved until after the fact. The security guards had him on one side of the dancefloor and the assailant and his posse on the other side. We were telling the guard what had happened and he was completely disinterested in figuring out what was up. The assailant and his group fled the club and that was that. No one was held for questioning, no cops were called. My friend was straight-up assaulted by a rabid stranger over a spilled drink and all Rumors did was break up the "fight." My friends face was completely messed up. So fucked. So much for tight security and trying to protect vulnerable LGBT people from attacks. I shutter to think what would happen if a gunman or someone truly dangerous tried to do some shit at rumors. Their security is a joke. Get it together Rumors. read more

I have been a huge fan of Rumors since I was 18 years old. I used to spend the majority of my weekends there as a loyal customer. I am getting married next month and my fiancé and I decided to reminisce at the place we met for our bachelorette party, Rumors. I remember the first time I laid eyes on this beautiful woman and I've always told everyone the story of how we met here. So prior to the bachelorette party, my sister in law who was throwing our party called every place we would be visiting to ensure she knew exact cover charges because that's how you plan ahead of time to make for smooth transitioning. She was quoted $65 for our bus of friends and family. Once we got through the doors, the security quoted us the same price. We were then met with the assistant manager who proceeded to tell us that the cover would be $125. Not that we couldn't cover it, it was the entire principal of the situation that was wrong. The assistant manager got into my sister in laws face which was completely uncalled for in a place of business, especially when she was having a civil conversation. About 4-5 security guards surrounded my group of friends as if we were doing something wrong which was also completely uncalled for. I have never had this kind of experience here and I'm absolutely disgusted with the way we were treated. You don't have to get a business degree to understand that our bar tabs would've amounted to HUNDREDS of dollars while you're sitting here fighting over $60 when we were quoted the specific amount in the first place. Might I add that security say there and watched my sister in law pull out $100 at the atm inside Rumors. She was going to tip them and give them the $100 so realistically they were arguing and being disrespectful to us over $25! I will NEVER return to Rumors again! So disappointed with the out of line behavior by an ASSISTANT MANAGER. I hope none of you ever experience this disrespect at a place where our community is supposed to feel "safe." read more

I had a great time here. I come here anytime I am in the Grand Rapids area of Michigan. It is friendly and they GLBT community in this bar loves us Canadians. I have always had so much fun at Rumors. I hosted a bachelorette party and took 13 people- I wanted to pay the cover for everyone. They don't accept card so when I spoke the the manager she told me to take my party thru the side door because there is an ATM. I asked how much it would be and was told 65 dollars. Once everyone was in she then told me 125. When I tried to pay what I was quoted they kicked us out. Horrible business. read more

When my sister was overcharged by about $40 a while ago, we figured it was a one time mistake. However, I was just there for a foam party and both me and my friend that used our cards there were charged a LOT more than what we should have been. They told my sister there was nothing to be done about it because there was no way to know how much she actually should have been charged. Visited this city to attend a graduation last weekend and was very disappointed in the music selections. "Crossroad" by Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony, was played, need I say more?! The music was not tailored to attract all party goers which left many people simply sitting around and conversing or utilizing the exterior of the establishment as their hangout spot. It was shocking to see one of the only LGBT clubs in this city so vacate! The DJ made no efforts to do her only job which is fill this place and keep the buying drinks! Cool place and who took our ids was very nice. The lady at the table who you sign in with was very very and I can not express this enough nasty and mean. She almost didn't let us in and was saying we didn't pay when we did pay. She tried saying she heard our conversation and how we didn't pay. She argued with us for a while and once we showed her our stamps she shut up and let us in. I have never dealt with such a mean person at a place where being social is what you're being paid to do. Last time I was there, after she gave me my ID, I was gonna go back by the coat room. She PUT HER HANDS ON ME, and YANKED my arm and PUSHED me and my friends out the door. This has always been my favorite place to dance. I would still recommend it to many folks, but, with caution. I am an adult who has no sexual identity, just looking to dance. I am aware of harmful and inappropriate interaction with any human individual. That being said. I was accused of sexually harassing women in this venue tonight. I was shocked and embarrassed in front of my friends as security forced me out of the club. I had very little opportunity to object to the claims made against me. Furthermore, i was not aloud to revive my cover charge back. I was accused by a straight man of sexually pressuring women on the dance floor! I was only dancing with my 2 male friends and 2 women friends the entire time!!!!!! Suddenly I was approached by security and asked to leave, I kindly acknowledged their concerns, and asked to explain and refute the accusations. My attempt was seen as a further threat and I was removed from the club. I kindly left because I understand the low tolerance of such behavior and the small room for error on behalf of the security in regards to the safety of other guests. This is fine but in the long run I wish for more of an objective approach to these situations. I'm sad for the sociological state of this venue. I can't believe I was charged with such non sense primarily because I was not obviously Gay! I will never go here again. read more

Overall, Rumors is a really fun and cool place, gay or straight, to go for dancing or meeting up with friends, especially after their semi-recent remodeling. Thursdays are the busiest, and best nights to go; Friday and Saturdays are sometimes kind-of busy, but small crowd or not, it's always a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Drink prices are allover the place. On their half-off nights on Thursdays, you have to mention/remind the bartender that it's half-off drinks or else you'll usually get charged full price or only get like a dollar off the regular price. Multiply times I've paid different prices for the same drink on the same night, and/or less or more for the same drink as a friend got from the same bartender. If they just stepped up their marketing and unify the service from all of their staff, it would be a much more popular destination. read more

Rumors is one of very few gay bars in Grand Rapids. I do enjoy that they have ladies night on the first and third Friday of each month. Don't get me wrong, I love my gay boys, but sometimes it's nice to see some love for the lesbian crowd. It is much appreciated. However, I do have some qualms. 1. They charge cover $3 if you are over 21 and $10 if you aren't! Yikes. I'm of drinking age, and I wouldn't mind paying cover. Except... 2. They have NO drink specials on Ladies night!!! These drinks are pricey! Also, getting to the bar to actually order a drink is a feat in and of itself. They should reward you with a free drink just for fighting that crowd. 3. The music is sub par. Very top 40, and "I kissed a girl" plays EVERY TIME I'm there. Don't even get me started on why I can't stand that song. 4. The dance floor is PACKED. Seriously. Be prepared to get stepped on and possibly elbowed in the face. 5. I always smell like an ashtray the next day. That being said, I have had some good times there. The overpriced drinks help in that department. Also, Ladies Night attracts a very eclectic, funky, and fun crowd. That is the best part about Rumors: the people.
