Terrible service related to their recycling. they constantly miss our house and then when I had a need to use a second can since first was full from waiting on them to collect (sometimes just shy of 2 weeks), they magical performed an audit and then drop an addition fee onto our bill For a second can use. Their quote was straightforward and lower than I anticipated. Once I accepted it, all I needed to do was provide them with a list of items and where they were located. The team jumped right in and handled everything efficiently. I was really impressed that they managed to load everything--including several 300-pound pieces--onto a single truck. We went 5 weeks without service, January/February. Spent $150 for someone to plow driveway and they still didn't come out. Called to complain and they said they don't offer discounts. So I guess I have to pay money for service not rendered? 2023 I was paying $126 a month for dumpster rental. Now I am paying $180 a month. Why is it when gas prices go up so does my bill? But when gas prices go down, my bill doesn't. I looked at the reviews, and it's pretty low. I'm not shocked. read more

They used to pick up every week, but in the past few weeks, they've left our trash 3 times. One time it was the recycle bin and twice the regular trash. We called customer service every time; we got about a $2.00 credit for the missed recycle bin, but were just given excuses about the other 2 times. I feel like we're paying for service that we're not getting. It makes no sense that all the other neighbors on our cul-de-sac got theirs picked up last week (but not us) and the CS agent told us "maybe the truck was too full to empty yours." WTH??? The property that I work for use Rumpke waste and recycling services. For 3 weeks now Rumpke has been neglecting us. We have not had our dumpsters dump in over 3 weeks now. It's ridiculous. Best advice I can give to anybody about this company, is that if you ever need a trash bin be sure to order it from Home Depot or Lowe's and get a Toter trash bin. Rumpke offers zero warranty on their cans and Toter has a 10 year warranty. When Rumpke destroys your cans like they always manage to do, Toter replaces them for free and Rumpke does not. Learned this lesson the hard way after Rumpke had already destroyed 3 of my cans in a short period of time. Rumpkes customer service was non existent. read more

They broke my toter trash can to where it is not usable and will not replace it, instead they want me to rent one for $3 a month. They threw the lid inside the can and left it. They park left of center when pucking up trash so cars cant get around them or if you can get around them you are partially off the road. Screw you rumpke! read more

Been loyal customers for 8 years. Always pay our bill. For the last month, when they pick up ours and our fellow neighbor's trash, after they empty the dumpsters, instead of setting them back up on the curb they leave them in the street against the curb. Today, I witnessed this as it happened. The man literally walked closer to the curb then gave it a push sending the dumpster rolling toward the curb. The only dumpster not left in the street was someone who was outside on their porch watching - that person's dumpster was properly placed up on the sidewalk. This, along with abritrarily raising rates for no reason whatsoever every three months, is one of the many reasons, we intend to change haulers very soon. Do not recommend Rumpke as they have very high rates and poor service (i.e. flinging dumpsters that could easily hit cars parked on the street doing damage to cars. Also dumpsters in streets present a hazard driving especially on windy days when they can get blown around) read more

My company has been a Rumpke Customer for over 30 years. After watching our trash collection prices climb and climb, and putting up with our employees being treated disrespectfully by their drivers, we decided it was time to look at other options. Best Way was over 30% cheaper. All other vendors were significantly cheaper! If you have an option, do yourself a big favor and shop this around. Rumpke's unscrupulous business practices make it extremely difficult to move on. Their contracts are the most one sided unethical documents I have ever seen. When I showed our attorney he commented that he doesn't think he has ever seen a contract that bad. I knew they had bad contracts and had always instructed everyone on my team to never sign them. After talking with Rumpke several times, and them offering only modest decreases in rates that are still very high compared to competitors they informed me that they have signed contracts. The contracts they produced were at least 3 years old and some as old as 7 years. They will use sneaky tactics to get someone in your company to sign these, and then they hold them in their war chest. The contracts all have 3 year terms with auto renewals, allow them to raise prices whenever they feel like it for whatever reason, and they have an insanely small cancellation window. You must notify them no less than 60 and no more than 120 days before the end of the contract to get out. If you try to get out of their contract they will hit you with exorbitant "liquidated damages" fees. Six times your monthly rate, plus $100 per container. We have multiple locations, and they tried to pull a fast one on us by adding locations onto the liquidated damages fees that we had no contract on. They also tried to add fuel charges onto the liquidated damages fee. In an attempt of being reasonable and getting this behind us, I have offered to negotiate the liquidated damages to a reasonable level and move on. They refused to discuss it. After 30 plus years of being a customer and never paying a bill late, the way they have treated us is abhorrent. Rumpke management is subpar. Whoever manages customer service couldn't manage a lemonade stand. They frequently miss our entire street on trash day, so when you call CS they give you the same song and dance about "trucks are still out" and "I just sent a message to them to let them know they missed the street" They have no clue what they are saying and have no business speaking to customers. Anyone can work for Rumpke as long as you 1) can lie and 2) have no clue what you're talking about. So, here the trash sits as usual like every other missed pickup which I pay for by the way. If I could go with another company I would in a second, but unfortunately our town has a "contract" with them. We have been Rumpke customers for many years, we auto pay monthly. Today is February 22, 2025 and we have not had our trash and recycling picked up since February 5th. I have called Rumpke 6xs and keep being told they will be out in the next 24-48 hours. Not true. The last call, 2/20, I escalated and asked for a supervisor, (I am not a Karen) and was told someone would call me back. No one has called. I have no room in my cans and no response from Rumpke. The quality of garbage collection has gone way down. Currently searching other trash collection companies in the Cincinnati area. read more

Rumpke bought the prior waste service company I used, and now my dumpster service has been skipped several times by Rumpke. When I called their customer service, and I was told that it is my responsibility to call Rumpke when my service was missed! They had a driver behaving very strangely and when I called to request that somebody maybe just check on the guy, the lady on the phone was incredibly rude. Could not have cared less. Didn't even want to know who, when, where, or anything. Wasn't even trying to get anybody in trouble, the guy really needed to just be checked on. Maybe he was new and needed help. Bait and switch trash service. I just moved into a new home and called Rumpke to find out price and services. Was told large item pick-up was first of the month and that they can take sofas (wrapped) old toilets, etc. That works for me so I signed up. No way to notify them of large items pickup via their web page so you are forced to call and wait. When I finally reached someone they informed me that they only pickup 1 large item. 1! Then the actual details are finally explained. If you have a sofa with a recliner the back must be removed. They don't accept double recliner sofas. If the sofa is too big they wont take it. All details the sales person failed to tell me when I was signing up for service and details that are completely missing from their web site. Classic bait and switch. Shame on them and shame on the city. Why are my taxes so stupid high and they don't include trash service. So now I have 3 toilets and a wrapped sofa at the curb (that I now have to unwrap to disassemble) that is going to take Rumpke 4 months to remove without me paying some exorbitant extra fee. They discontinue service for nonpayment even though we paid. They apologize for the mix up but it takes them a month to return the cans. What do you do in the meantime? Not the first time this has happened. I wish I had an alternative. I'd gladly pay more for a competent company. read more

I have found the representatives answering the phones for this company to be unprofessional and inefficient. I have spoken with people who were obviously chewing gum, or admitted they did not know how to simply begin a new pick up of recycling, or were abrupt and rude for no apparent reason. When calling I have been placed on hold for long periods of time. One time when I called the IVR was on a continuous loop of the same message no matter which button you pushed. Called Rumpke to cancel my service since I sold my house. I was told to leave the cans on the street and they would pick them up in 7-10 days. I explain my HOA does not allow that and the new owners do not want the cans sitting in front of their home for two weeks. They told me they have an agreement with my HOA so it was okay. Since I was on the HOA I know that is not true. After ten days and the cans are still not picked up I call again but the rep could not care less. Same story now another 7-10 days. Scam artists. Literal scam artists. They have been charging me for 2 cans on my account and I only had 1. They charged me for 6 months for an additional can. I called to have it fixed and was hung up on several times and never called back. I finally called to cancel them and they asked me to have the can sit out by the road. I had my husband set it out there WHILE I was still on the phone with them. A week later they picked it up. Fast forward 6 months... rumpke shows up on my credit in collections. I call in and find out that they say the can set out was never picked up!!! LOL. It's like you can't get rid of them!!!! So they said they filed the can as "missing" but they said I still had a balance of $24. When back in September I completely closed out the account. I am so glad to have rumpke out of my life! I've called many time in the last 1 and a half about trash cans not being serviced. I've stated I'm in a wheelchair when calling and they said they would have the supervisor call me which no one ever did multiple times. They only can to pick up my trash late after asking once out of at least 5 times. I even stated that trash is building up in my home and I can't move around. Still this happens and they don't care. Since they took over, they've missed trash pick up at least 10 times over a 4 month period. Yes. You read that right. 10. When you call their service line, they say they'll take care of it, but I have gotten NO WHERE with it. I'll call again the next day and be told there was no record of my previous call. It's utterly shocking when our dumpster is emptied when it's actually supposed to be at this point. It's been months and I am STILL having this pick-up issue and STILL being charged for pick ups that are not happening. After purchasing local refuse business in Springfield, Rumpke proceeds to gouge the customer base by upping the cost from $68 per quarter to $93.39, including a fuel surcharge of $15.39 and $9.00 for the trash can. SUPPORT LOCAL - CJ Refuse and Hauling (in Springfield) offers a much better price (a 30% savings) of $65.00 per quarter.
