Highly recommend Smooth Move. Tony and crew reported timely every day and were very respectful, asking where we wanted items placed at the new house. The crew even moved several heavy pieces for me after I decided I didnt like the way the room looked. Our move was a 3 day move, 8 truckloads of furniture and garage equipment. Not only did they move the contents of our large home, they also relocated the contents of my husband's garages including a car lift, brake lathe and a lot of other heavy mechanic type equipment. Unimpressed and primarily disappointed is how I would describe our experience with A Smooth Move. There was no living up to their name. My wife made arrangements with Tony over the phone explaining everything that we had to move and was given the estimate that it would take 6 movers, two trucks and approximately 4 hours. She worked tirelessly to pack as much as she could and stage it in each room to make organizing and loading as easy as could be. We knew there were going to be things left behind because we had run out of boxes and other packing materials. When move day arrived, there were 7 movers to show up including Tony, the owner. He informed my wife that he made the call to utilize an additional person and it would then make the move go quicker... at an additional cost, of course. I was not there when they started but arrived soon enough after to see the anguish washed over my wife's face. There was no order to how things were being loaded. There was no general care in how things were treated. The movers spread out over the house, not sticking to a specific room nor were they systematically loading in the desired order. It was more chaotic with each person asking "does this go?", "how about this?". I will never claim to know the moving business but I do know about trying to provide the very best in customer satisfaction. Tony may have had the best intentions for his time here but it fell far short from what was actually desired. During the move, my two sons' loft beds were prematurely dissembled by Tony's team, meaning before my wife was ready for them to even start moving that room, by using an allen wrench that was the wrong size for the screw thereby rounding out the head on several of the screws. This was done in lieu of her telling them she had the tool for the job that actually came with the beds. They insisted they had the right tool. Moving on to the garage, we had lots and lots of things that just clearly weren't ready to be moved but every attempt was made to make the things that were ready easily accessible to them. We moved several boxes ourselves just to make it easier on them in the limited space available. During this course, one of them knocked over a picture frame and shattered the glass. Not only was there never an apology, there wasn't even an audible "oops". In fact it just kept getting walked on and the glass crushed into smaller pieces until I swept it out of the way myself. Fast forward to the new house and unloading... Only a few things were to be actually moved into the house because the previous owners still have occupancy. The majority of our belongings were being stored in the 3 car pole barn. Plenty of room should the direction given been followed. Two bays were going to be utilized leaving enough room around the third for the previous owner's car. Now comes the really good parts. Backing in to the driveway, the driver of the first truck backed into the overhead power line, severing the cable and killing power to the garage. It was a tremendous light show from the back of the truck as there was now a live power line exposed. It's possible that the line itself was hanging lower than it was supposed to be but that fact was quickly overshadowed when the driver was repeatedly shouted at to stop by another member of the crew. The truck pulled away from the line and unloading began. Unfortunately, the unload went about as well as the loading did with us having to move items again to try to stay somewhat organized, that proved to be difficult with how things went on the trucks to begin with. As things were being unloaded, that is when the damage started being noticed. My wife is a photographer so she had no shortage of props and items used for her shoots, one such item is a small, antique, six leg end table that now has a broken leg. While moving into the garage, each person of course had to take time to admire the super charged Mustang that was still being stored in there. They also found time to play a little bit of basketball in the driveway. Not exactly what I want to see from a company that I am paying by the hour. After all was said and done, we were confronted with a bill roughly $300 over what was previously quoted and 5 hours of unwanted anxiety. I would have a very hard time recommending A Smooth Move in good conscious to anyone needing a moving company. I'm sure they are all very nice individuals but their services left a lot to be desired. Oh, and as far as the power line went, the still occupying owner was kind enough to call the electric company and they came out to repair the line with a splice after the movers left. Additionally, no one was injured when that happened either. It could have been much, much worse. read more

Three weeks later I have now received a call from Tony FINALLY. The only reason he decided to respond to me is because I guess he went online and saw my negative review. He basically told me as I customer I should have been watching their every move and making sure they were doing there job right if I didn't want my property destroyed. STEER CLEAR!!!! Warn family and friends. It takes years and a lot of money to buy nice items for your home and these people will destroy your pieces within hours literally!!! read more

1. Let me start by saying, if you are moving anywhere in/around/out of the tri-state and want to hire help, look for ANYONE ELSE but "A Smooth Move" to help you. I am only leaving 1 star because 0 is not an option. Let me explain... 2. The beginning of my experience with this company was great. Tony was prompt, fair, and inspired great confidence in the service his company would deliver. Then the movers showed up... 3. We rented a moving truck ahead of time but were advised by the movers we would need a larger truck to fit all our items, and I accept full responsibility for that. Likewise, I completely understand and respect that movers need to be compensated for the time they spend at your property, so it did not bother me to pay them for the ~ 1 hour it took to sort out the truck exchange. However it did bother me when I returned with the truck and discovered they had disappeared to go "get coffee and breakfast," for over an hour, INSTEAD of performing useful and time-saving activities like wrapping up the furniture in our living room and/or moving things to the garage to literally begin the moving process. Professional movers should not need to be told to make the most of their paid time; especially not for activities that will help them get done with a job as efficiently as possible. I had to call the owner to track down the crew and get them to return and start their work. 4. Next, we requested and advised several times that we needed the truck to be packed first with items going to our storage unit, then with items going directly to our new house so that they would be available for us first-thing off the truck when unloading. As you can see in the first photo, it took us unloading the truck to the middle to reach the "house" items (image 001). 5. Prior to the movers coming, we had purchased several items for the move including tie-downs, quilted moving blankets and moving pads. We instructed the crew to wrap our furniture in the quilted moving pads FIRST, then use the less protective/standard pads. Despite this, there were 12 brand-new, quilted moving blankets NOT used at the end of the packing to wrap our most delicate furniture. As a result, many of our items were left unwrapped, were carelessly thrown into the truck, and were damaged. Several specific examples follow with images: a. Our newborn's nightstand was unwrapped and placed beside our treadmill, which left a large gouge in the wood and grease stain (images 002a-c): b. We provided mattress bags for all mattresses and box springs that were not properly fit nor sealed before loading the truck (we had to fix this in storage and there was PLENTY of room for each mattress/box-spring in each bag), resulting in damaged/stained mattresses (images 003a-c): c. While unpacking it was also clear that the movers were USING OUR ITEMS TO STAND ON - given the evident footprints all over our storage tubs (see image). Please note, we had a stepstool and stepladder sitting out in plain view that could have been used if requested. As a result, several of these tubs were broken when unpacking (they were pristine prior to the movers' treatment). See images 004a-e: d. A bedroom nightstand was left unwrapped AND had several items stacked on top of it (image 005): e. Our space heater was not wrapped AND placed on a box that it damaged (this box was clearly labeled to NOT have anything stacked on top of it). See images 006a-b: f. Heavy boxes were thrown on top of our baby furniture (which was also not wrapped despite having 12 brand-new, quilted moving blankets available). See images 007a-b: g. Also, our newborn's crib, which was brand-new prior to the movers' treatment, was also left unwrapped and suffered multiple points of damage. See images 008a-g: h. Other items include damaged TV Trays; stained ottoman; and damage to the rented truck - ALL despite having 12 brand-new, quilted moving blankets available (images 009a-c): 6. Therefore, if you value your time, money, and belongings, I advise against even calling "A Smooth Move" - let alone hiring them. read more

We moved the beginning of November into my first purchased move and can't say enough! Tony immediately got to it as soon as him and the crew arrived. The boys who helped were very respectful. They made sure to ask questions of what needs to be where and were very efficient. Towards the end they even went down and got a piece of the couch that didn't quite fit in the family room to help put together another idea we had to see if it would work. I appreciated them wrapping some furniture in the plastic wrap as one of my dressers I was afraid wasn't going to make it in the move. (It survived!) I also appreciated them taking safety in these young college kids bodies by using the straps around their waste to carry the heavy stuff. The cost was very reasonable. Overall, the crew was patient, hardworking, and very friendly. They helped make the day fun by holding various conversations. I'll definitely be calling Tony in the future when it's time to move again! (Hopefully it won't be for awhile though. ) read more

DO NOT HIRE THESE MOVERS: 1) although our move was scheduled far in advance and confirmed the night before, they were 4 hours late on our moving day. Tony lied & said it was because they truck broke down, but one of the movers said that Tony "fibs a lot", and that he'd actually double booked them that morning. 2) they sent a nimrod, inexperienced team of movers, that spent way over 45 minutes just trying to figure out how to configure the items in the truck. the crew did not get everything on the truck, so now I have to figure out how to haul what they left behind to my new place. 3) the movers came without dollies or straps. they were unprepared and inexperienced. 4) moving from a 2BR apt to a 2BR house took from 1:30pm - 7:30pm. The crew was rude and unprofessional. It took them 1.5 hours to get from Florence to Fairfax. They said they stopped for something to drink. When I called Tony to discuss my concerns, I got nothing but excuse-making and more rudeness. He was a total ass about it all. Do yourself a HUGE favor - their seemingly low prices are not worth the hassle that they cause on moving day. "A Smooth Move" will make your move a total nightmare. read more

The short of it is this: Tony's team was 6 hours late, too tired to actually do the move, dropped a dresser into the wall damaging both items, and most certainly needed my help in loading and unloading the truck. I would very highly recommend NOT using this company for any move. read more

We hired this company in May, 2015 and were extremely disappointed. They arrived 6 hours late to our move, were still unloading our truck at midnight, didn't move most of the boxes because they ran out of time, marred one of our walls, broke a dresser drawer, and when I called the owner to follow up on my complaints, he was probably the rudest person I have ever had the displeasure of speaking with. He called me names, refused to take responsibility for anything, and eventually hung up on me. A small amount of respect when dealing with customers goes a long way in his industry, and he obviously is oblivious to that. I would strongly warn against using this company for your next move! read more
