Cool chalk and accessories wall

Okay let me say this right out the gate, I'm not an avid runner... but lately I've been on that exercise binge and have started to take to running and training for a 5k. After years of trial and much error looking for a shoe that can hold up to the abuse that my giant feet put them through and not make my knees or back hurt after exercise I took the advice of a friend and visited RUNdetroit. Being totally honest I went in totally skeptical! I've been to run places before and have been disappointed time and time again after spending good money on the wrong shoes for me. This place was a totally different experience. My family and I were greeted warmly by the staff, the employee was actually listing to me as I talked to him explaining my situation because he pointed out somethings that I said as we were looking at different shoes. He then looked at my prior shoes and asked some more questions. He then pointed out somethings in a shoe that I should be looking for and explained clearly why. After he pulled out multiple shoes for me to try that were potential candidates for me and watched me run/jog up and down the street seeing if they were being effective. During the whole process I never felt rushed during or pressured to buy anything. In the end I did get a new pair of running shoes and have been using them for about a week now or ten miles of running and they have been great. That is why I suggest if you need some new running shoes, visit (run down) to RUNdetroit and get the shoe for you.

New kicks!

Even if the industry standard now, I expect more from them as a Detroit Metro native. === Here is the alleged Shinola "Guarantee" in pictures. Sent a pre-auth form with picture requesting repair. They approved it as repairable and asked me to ship it at my expense. Weeks later, they said they would send it out of state to an expert for a 6-8 week repair. Then without further messaging, UPS returns it with a "Not Serviced" notice. The clearly outsourced Customer Service rep's response to costing me $15 in shipping for nothing? A 10% discount on my next purchase. The cobbler down the street ended up fixing it for $15. I hope this review does not cost Shinola much more than the $15 I wasted sending it to them. I hope so because I'm not vindictive. It would be a shame if a deceptive, flawed customer service procedure managed to DISGRACE and tarnish the image of Detroit further through DISGUSTING business practices. Hopefully, the 10% discount offer I will never use makes up for it.

Level A - the first floor was closed, and we could only walk around Level 1, with limited access to view the cars from above. For years, this has been one of my favorite spots to bring friends when they visited Detroit. Seeing everything from vintage GM models to upcoming vehicles all in one place always felt iconic. Knowing this was likely one of the last visits before major demolition begins made it feel even more emotional. We'll truly miss this space as we've known it. The change, while disappointing at first, makes sense. The two office towers closest to the river, along with the connecting podium, are slated for demolition. The original 1970s-era design simply no longer fits modern work needs, especially with the shift toward remote and hybrid work. While it's sad to see this space go, the future plans, opening up the riverfront and creating a Navy Pier-style park and entertainment area, give hope that something even better is coming.

Envisioned by Henry Ford II as a "city within a city" to counteract the decline of Detroit in the 1960s, it was designed by architect John Portman who is also responsible for the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, the Embarcadero Center in San Francisco and the New York Marriott Marquis, among others. Phase one was completed in 1977 with additional towers added in 1981 for a total of seven! Sadly, General Motors decided to relocate its headquarters elsewhere and much of the office space is vacant. But that doesn't make it any less interesting and the GM display in the lowest level is darned awesome. [Review 682 of 2025 - 390 in Michigan - 24243 overall]
