Every time I go into rural king, I'm asked to apply for credit card. Well, I did online. My total annual income is 174k, my credit rating is 822 with trans union, I have all A's in every category accept for amount of applications I submitted with a C rating. Anybody who monitors credit rating will tell you I have exceptional credit rating. I'm 65 and have never been denied a credit card. My purpose for the card was convenience only because I shop frequently at rural king. Not anymore! There is not one reason that rural king can tell me why I was denied. It's the humiliation factor, plus an addition credit app on my credit report that disgust me. I'm here to warn all consumers, don't waste your time applying for rural king credit card. It will only frustrate you and hurt your credit. I now shop with customer friendly Lowe's, TSC, Home Depot, Amazon and all farm parts online tractor stores. Rural King carries the cheapest grade tractors and equipment. The one and only positive thing I can say about rural king is that they have a limited gun section. Rural King does not offer veteran discounts either. Are you seeing the big picture yet? Harbor Frieght just opened next door which is probably gonna run rural king outta business anyway. Those who shop frequently can also contest that rural king is not organized when running outta stock on commonly purchased items. I believe if rural king was managed better, it would be a desirable place to work. Also, paying a maintenance tech $12/hr is the reason you see lights out, etc... I have worked at the LaPorte IN Rural King going on 2 years but as this has went along they have cut my hours and tried to make me come in on days when I was not scheduled . They agreed from the beginning when I hired in that they would work me the 3 days a week I can work meaning Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday since I have doctors appointments on Mondays and Fridays and Church on the weekends They hire in new people and coddle them and screw us that work part time . They have really pissed a lot of people off since I have been there . To put it bluntly I have worked in the Gun Barn there longer than the others there yet they treat me like I'm a Nothing . Just because a guy is a Department Head does not make him a manager for the way I was getting treated by him and the new guy Tom who is nothing to me but a Smartass Know It All when I tried to help him in any way he said things to me that really pissed me off because he was doing the wrong thing NOT ME . I was so glad to find this Rural King. I used to frequent them in southern Illinois, but Chicago doesn't have one. This is the closest one to me now. I love it. You enter to the smell of fresh popcorn popping. A must buy. The store is huge & I always take my time browsing. Lots of boots, denim, hats, farm necessities, love animals, dog items, and so much more. Prices are reasonable & staff is friendly. read more

When I left this store yesterday, I swore that I'd "never" be back again. But after reading all the reviews, at some point, (but not for some time), I do need to go back and give them another chance. This is my first time ever in this store and I went there because I need a lot of bags of potting soil, where they posted a price of $2 per bag, which is the best price I've seen. So, I walk in and see 2 people behind the cashier section. I go to one side and it's obvious that only the other register is operating and this person was busy with other things. The only thing that I want is to purchase at least 8 bags of potting soil, and that's just the beginning. Seeing that I get no attention here, I walked around to the other register and stood behind 2 other people. The first guy paid and left, but the other, (over 80 man), was returning something and wanted his $4.95 back. The woman said no, but he set there and argued about it, saying that he buys all kinds of stuff there. In the meantime, several other employees came into this area but were busy with their own stuff, and now the other person behind the registers opens the other register just as 2 other guys walk up there, (meanwhile, I'm still standing behind the guy who is arguing about his return. After both guys paid the other cashier and left, she now joined in with register worker #1 and they both worked on the old guy's cash return. All this time, I received no "hi there', no "be with you in a minute", and even a glance to recognize that I was there, (I guess I was in my cloaking, (invisible) mode). Together, the two of them did finally agree to make the refund. They handed him the cash and receipt, where he began to argue that he didn't need the receipt. After another minute or so, (getting close to 15 minutes while I'm standing there), the guy starts to leave, but turns back around and says "I'm looking for an address". Cashier #1 said that she didn't know, but #2 says "Oh, we can help you with that". So both #1 and #2 are now looking through some book to find where he wants to go. At this point, without any recognition from any worker and not even a glance to acknowledge me being there, I threw up my hands and said, "Okay, I'm done!" And just walked out, went down the street and bought all my bags of soil paying $ .50 extra per bag, so much better, easier, and with no hassle at all. Tell me if I'm wrong about this, but I won't be able to bring myself to enter this place for at least another year. In the meantime, I have to give them the lowest rating that I can. Heck, I didn't even get to look around inside the store to see if I like the place. This is a disappointment to me and I hope I can do better when I do go there somewhere in the future. Things would have been different if I had gotten a little recognition at all. I am a veteran and a human being, just like everyone else. I may not be as old as that other guy, but am elderly. I do feel bad about this but must be honest with myself. I hope to be able to change my rating. I will report back sometime. read more

Rural King is always great. It's a farm based store so I go there for warming lamps, pet food, animal antibiotics and supplements, belts, winter gear, and, sometimes, candy. They seriously have a great snack and candy selection. The staff is always nice and quite helpful. Highly recommended. read more

Love this Rural King store in Niles, Mi. Great prices, service, selection, and value. Very good quality for the price. Blue jeans are $9.99! They're pretty good, too! The employees at this location are just so friendly. I feel like I'm shopping with friends. It's very easy to strike up a long conversation with just about everyone here. Car batteries are Rural King branded and manufactured by Exide.. Usually $59.99 or less depending on the application. I have one in a classic car of mine. 40% cheaper than even Wal-Mart. They have tough to find pet vaccines and medication. Very reasonably priced too. Rural King is one of my favorite stores. I do prefer the Niles location to all others. I've got to say that at any of their locations, I've experienced very good service and, friendly employees. read more

This is the "MacGuyver" of retail stores. Get a handgun, new jeans, dash cam, and salsa all in one store. Come back next time for ammo, baby chicks, new lawn mower blade, and a HD TV antenna! Rural king will bring out your inner hillbilly. Located in an old Kmart with pretty much everything exactly the same except for the awesome items that are now located within the old Kmart. Here is a sample of what you can find in rural king. Also note, i doubt you will find any item cheaper at any other store. -food for any type of animal: dogs, cats, horses, chickens, etc etc etc -trucker hats -automotive fluids and some parts -carhart work clothing -hunting gear like ammunition, deer stands, and clothing -a giant bobber that doubles as a floating cooler -household cleaning items -paint -tools -farm equipment too big to fit in the store so they leave it in the parking lot. Wish I could say what said farm equipment is used for, but I'm a city guy -toys -boots. Both work and cowboy This list could pretty much go on forever. I get my dog's food here. He eats an expensive, all meat kind that costs me over $60/bag in Chicago. For some strange reason they carry it here for about $50. They don't overprice like they do in the South Loop at that fancy, organic, dog food place. We love coming in the spring for lawn supplies and equipment but hate when the kids beg and plead for the cute baby chicks they have for sale. Pretty cool store to just walk around in. They have just about anything you need for the outdoors, household, they have toys and even have clothing and food. read more

Have been to 4 Rural King stores. This one is by far the largest. But the product selection was plus and minus. Large boot section, some Wrangler jeans, but not as many types; fewer power tools, smaller firearms, ammo, and hunting gear selection; lots of Carhartt, but no Berne Outerwear. There is good stuff there. But other RK stores have a more varied selection. Only 3 chk out spaces, 3rd lane was maybe customer service/returns?? 2 had reg wrkrs on a Friday nite. Needed pricing help, guy stopped and called in for the info. Clean restrooms. read more

This place is just gross inside. It's rundown, just looks dirty, and the merchandise looks cheap. I think this building is a really old K-Mart store - that's what it looks like. I only go here because they are one of the few places within about an hour of where I live where I can find baby chicks and turkeys later in the season than other places carry them (which is just early Spring). Went here yesterday to buy some baby chicks. Walked back to where they keep them. Customers in the area looking at the chicks, turkeys, ducks... no employee anywhere in sight I waited about 5 minutes, and still no one working anywhere nearby. I saw a young man through the doors of the backroom and motioned to him, asking him for help. I saw him use his walkie-talkie to call for someone. Ten minutes later - no one had shown up. Some of the customers just left. I live over an hour away, I needed to get this errand done. I walked down to the main front aisle and saw a kid working there. I asked if he could have someone come to the area where the poultry was. He said, "I can't. I don't have a walkie-talkie." While I wanted to suggest maybe his sidekick Beavis could call someone, instead I said, "Well maybe you could find another way to get someone." Again came the "duh" answer: "I can't. I don't have a walkie-talkie." Then the junior genius said I could walk half the length of the store to stand in line at the customer service desk after I'd already waited about 15-20 minutes AND asked two different employees for help. I said, "You know, you could walk down there and ask them to send someone - " but as I feared he'd get lost on the way, I walked down there and asked a third time for help in that department. The same nice young man who first called for someone for me was walking the same direction back to the poultry area, and we chatted on our walk back - he was the one bright spot. We got to the poultry area, and a woman finally arrived to help with the baby chicks. I was standing at the gate of the area, she walked in the side, straight to some people who had just walked up, and started helping THEM(!). I looked at the employee who'd walked back over to the area with me and he called to her saying I needed help - but she was already getting chicks for the other people - those who HADN'T done 3 laps of the store, been there 30 minutes trying to find help, or had to deal with the cretin whose problem-solving skills didn't reach beyond, "If I don't have a walkie-talkie, I can't help a customer." I asked the employee getting the chicks about a couple of the types they sell. She handed me a 3-ring binder that was about 4" thick and told me I could look them up. Thankfully, I finally (!) got the chicks. I asked her where I could find organic food for baby chicks. She told me which aisle, so I walked over there. She appeared a couple minutes after I got there - the one section where they carry organic crumbles was empty. They were entirely out. So I couldn't buy chick food there and had to make another stop to buy it at TSC. Went to the register where the cashier didn't say a word, just stared down at the counter and rang up the chicks. If the atmosphere in this place isn't bad enough, the poor service is. read more

Wow! If nothing else, this is at least a survilalist store!!! I mean, they have just about everything you need to live off the grid! Fishing stuff hunting stuff, poultry raising stuff, birdfood, dogfood, rabbitfood catfood, chicken feed,farming equipment, building supplies, wiring, piping, guns and ammo, rifles, shotguns, pistols, knives,even leather chaps..lol! oils for all uses and motors, best of all free popcorn and coffee! Oh, lawn mowers too.I like living within 15 miles of this place, makes me feel connected to the earth somehow. Yes, I am keeping 10 chickens. I am off the egg grid....lol! read more

I have shopped regularly here since relocating to Northwest South Bend four years ago. The store is often very busy. For my recent trips the past few months, wait time to check out have become excessive, with too few checkers working. They tell me that workers hours have been cut back and there is not enough help. I have even called the store office number to ask for more cashiers. You shouldn't regularly have to wait so long for someone to take your money. read more

I love this store. Pick up a bag of popcorn on the way in and plan on spending some time to look around. From garden supplies, animal feed and tools to boots and snacks. They have a wide variety of items and brands that you may not see other places. Overall, prices are good and the quality of items is good. The recent addition of guns and expansion of their gun accessories is another plus. Regular specials on ammo and other supplies makes this a must visit merchant. read more
