Before his teeth were extracted, we discussed the treatment plan and were led to believe his dentures would be covered. Based on those discussions, he agreed to have all of his teeth removed. After he received a letter that his Medicaid coverage was ending, he called the office to make absolutely sure his dentures would still be covered before his appointment. He was told they had already submitted a prior authorization for his dentures during his second visit and that everything was fine. We relied on that information. Then, on the day he was supposed to receive his dentures, we were told they were not covered and that we would have to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket. Now the office is denying that phone call ever happened and is essentially saying both of us are lying. As a result, my husband was left completely without teeth. Had we been told before the extractions--or during that phone call--that there was any issue with coverage, he never would have agreed to have all of his teeth removed without knowing he could actually receive dentures. This experience has been financially and emotionally devastating. I strongly encourage anyone considering treatment to get every insurance approval, prior authorization, and coverage decision in writing before agreeing to extractions.
