There were no restaurants in Springer. So this place was our closest option. The food is pretty average, but they have a vast menu. I got the 10 oz ribeye with mash potatoes and a salad. The steak was fine. A pretty small steak, but it was cooked perfectly at medium rare. The service was really quick. Especially considering there is only one waiter. They do not serve any alcohol. It's easily the best dinner spot in the area, bc it is the only one. Bottom line diner atmosphere, with a vast menu. read more

High interest location because this gas station is full of collectibles. It is super quaint. It's a fun place to stop for the typical gas station snack and a stretch. It's a little difficult to get in and out without spending more than you intended because there are really cool souvenirs / tourist items. Even as a NM local I thought of making some purchases. The prices are typical of gas stations. The bathrooms were a little on the dirty side, but they had toilet paper, soap, and paper towels. I do recommend stopping here. read more

Neveah was my server and she was great. Unfortunately their menu has been replaced with TA fair, however, there is an insert with decent Mexican food. I had the machaca with a side of fresh made green chile sauce. I didn't eat the hash browns or tortilla. Their take on the dish uses really good pot roast as the shredded beef. Flies still a problem but the atmosphere hasn't changed a bit. Servers super friendly. I'll definitely be returning while passing through. read more

Russell's Route 66 Diner was my father-in-law's lunch choice during our drive through New Mexico. So tummies grumbling, we made our way inside to grab a bite to eat, before hitting the road again. SPACE/ATMOSPHERE: Think fifties diner/soda fountain with a southwest flair. Weird right? Well that's Russell's Travel Center and the restaurant. In the main part of the travel center there are a couple older cars; while in the diner there's Coca-Cola tin tackers on the walls, some random memorabilia, retro vinyl stools and booths, with a splash of southwest art deco styling. It's an odd mix, but somehow feel appropriate for the area. SERVICE: Service was slow. There were a couple other diners there, including a family of five. The being said, it took a significant amount of time for our food to come out. Maybe they were shorthanded in the kitchen? Not sure. But our server didn't even acknowledge the delay. Kind of a bummer when we were really wanting to get back on the road. They were friendly enough. SUSTENANCE: They offer up a variety of dishes. Your typical diner fare with the option to add a heap of good ol' New Mexico green chile. We all opted for burgers for our meals. The boys each got bacon cheeseburgers, while I chose the loaded cheeseburger. Portions were def large! So if you stop here, make sure you're hungry. It is no longer Russel's but now a TA travel center. The restaurant is terrible. Both the red and green chili were lumpy and warmed over. Gross. Beans were cold. Pork chop was also warmed over. Grits were delivered at the end of the meal and were awful. How can they mess up instant grits? Biscuits were dry and over cooked. Probably also warmed over. Service was bad. Had to ask for coffee refill, ketchup, butter and jelly. Drive on into Springer and go to Zayra's. read more

The first striking thing about this travel center is the classic car display up front. Elvis and Marilyn greet you along with the red M&M. The cars are shiny and cool. This mini museum is an added attraction to a place where you can find many service items and essentials. They have gas, showers and a laundry facility. You can eat at the restaurant which features Subway or browse through the gift shop. Snacks, toiletries, fountain drinks and auto supplies are also available. And restrooms - the main need out on the open road. The cashier was efficient and not overly chatty as she worked the lines that surged and ebbed with regularity. This place is hopping. The women's restroom was average but better than expected with the large volume. I had fun looking around while waiting on him. I would stop here again. read more

Very pleasantly surprised, I ordered the BLT with a cup of Jalapeno chicken potato soup. It was very good, not spicy at all. The Bacon was the thick kind done perfectly. Gotta be honest on this one... Not the best food around, just the only food around. There is a SUBWAY literally at the end of the café counter in this place and I REFUSE to eat SUBWAY. I really hate to say this as I have a huge distain for the smell of their restaurants but for everyone other than myself I recommend you try your luck eating at SUBWAY. Ordered the chicken fried steak at the waitress' recommendation and I opted to pay for my food and NOT EAT IT! My wife ordered the taco combination plate and sent everything but the beans back! This is a large overall property with massive parking area for truckers and RVers, much of it pull throughs. The trucker/big rig diesel pumps are a good price. A very nice car/collectables free museum (by donation). Convenience store type selection similar to all major truck stops. Has a Subway fast food choice. The diner itself is designed to be reminiscent of the 50s/60s. Good selection of menu choices for both breakfast/main day time meals. Nice selection of deserts. Very good service in the restaurant on the several times we have dined here when passing through. Food is decent fare, typical of truck stop diners. Don't expect high end restaurant fare here, and don't order menu items that you will nit pick if you have specific expectations of it being prepared exactly to your desire. First off , we entered the restaurant and sat near a window. Bad idea, there were so many flies we move to a table in the middle. Well the flies followed us . The waitresses were busy behind the counter gossiping. We had to call out we were ready to order. The food was horrible. My husband ordered chile fries , which came out with what appeared to be frozen French fries. The chile was some liquid greenish stuff. They piled a big glob of shredded cheese that wasn't melted. The pot roast was tender, as advertised. It comes with two sides and they have a good selection. You also get a small sweet roll that tastes like a Hawaiian roll. While the ladies were nice to my face, one in a light blue track suit kept walking and lingering near me for no apparent reason. Another one, the server who brought my food and took my money, long curly hair pulled back in a ponytail, was watching me in the parking lot while I sampled the food before hitting the road. Quite a surprise within a TA Travel Center. We had New Mexico dishes, which were good and very reasonably priced.

Good service, bad quality steak, cheeseburgers sucked, it was like trying to eat a tenderized hockey puck with condiment packages from a school cafeteria. Yeah that cheeseburger sucked. The steak I had was low quality, coffee shop left over from the butcher beef. I don't know how to put this, but for some reason a lot of coffee shops think it's ok to only cook a steak on one side. You get nicely seared, grill marks on one side, but the other side is gray. Flat gray. If you cut it in half it'll be medium rare in the gray side and almost well done on that other. I really should just avoid ordering steaks ever from these places. read more

This isn't your run of the mill truck stop diner! Fun 50s diner decor, very clean and bright, server was great. Lots of good variety on menu from breakfast to burgers to New Mexican style plates. We got steak fingers and chicken fingers. Winner Winner Fingers Dinner! Both hand breaded and seasoned, golden and crisp/crunchy, while moist and tender inside. So very pleased since we are kinda fried steak snobs sometimes LOL. Wife got the house chips and was thrilled. I got Cole slaw, which was food service stuff and too sweet for me. We had an amazing breakfast - the centerpiece was shredded hash browns topped with New Mexico green Chile sauce and cheese with eggs and bacon accompanying. We also shared a side of their thick, perfectly cooked pancakes. (Don't hate, we occasionally overeat!) The staff was friendly and attentive. We stop at this travel center often when traveling. Tonight as we were checking out at the cash register, two employees were huddled around the counter goofing off, not wearing masks. The woman ringing up our items had a mask but she had it around her neck. My husband asked them why they were not wearing their masks and they reported that it was a free country and it was their right not to. My husband mentioned a sign on the door that required anyone entering to wear masks and they responded that they didn't have to wear them if they didn't want to. Just sitting there with our waters. Will not be back. They need to work on their service. Watched as other people who came in after us got their meals and side salads first. This is a truck-stop however it's also a local community gathering point. And a local restaurant, for those people that don't want to sit down and have a home-cooked truck stop kind of meal there is a Subway right there inside the truck stop. I had a hot roast beef sandwich and don't know how to explain it to you and let you understand that the roast beef was local cattle and actually tasted like roast beef. I also had a cup of the green chili stew and it was outstanding. I had a homemade pie for dessert almost like the classic old-time truck stop meal. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling along I-25 you have to get off earlier though in order to to slip through here. The waitress was really nice a tentative and made sure we had our food how we wanted it. My traveling companion had a cheeseburger and he liked it just fine. Just so so! Super busy so no way to fuel up quick and get out. They make Diesel customers come in and wait on line to give them a credit card, back out to fuel island and then wait again to pay. I asked the cashier why and she said making people come in they tend to spend more. That is the objective according to the owner. Will skip this place next time. read more

I'm a truck driver and I've eaten here several times and I don't think I've ever had a good experience with the food. It just isn't very good. I don't think the cooks know how to cook. My husband and I were parked here waiting for our next load to get us moving and we decided to give this place a try for lunch. I'm so glad we did!! We sat at the counter and were greeted quickly and with a smile by Felicia. We ordered our food and within 5-7 minutes it was delivered hot and fresh!! This restaurant is no chain or pre cooked food. Our food was good and prepared fresh to order. I had the smothered chimichanga burger with green chili cheese fries. It was so good!! I have half of it left for dinner!! My husband had the breakfast burrito with red chili sauce. He ate every bite!! I read some of the bad reviews on here and decided I would set things straight!!
