Great food! I had a chicken fried steak and was prepared for it to be mediocre - it was delicious hand breaded served on top of a generous portion of mashed potatoes. My wife had the Cowboy steak and she thoroughly enjoyed every bite. She wasn't able to eat it all. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. In the Best Western Hotel, I'm usually suspicious of them but this looked pretty good. The Host and server staff were excellent, especially the two servers. Polite, professional and very friendly, the took our order quickly and brough drinks right out. The dining room was sparse but most of the tables were taken. There is a full bar, also with quick service. I ordered the Green Chili Fettucine Alfredo with Chicken and my Wife had the Fish and Chips. Standard fare but the green chili addition to a typical Italian meal was very good. The taste was a great combination of the rich alfredo sauce and the sharp bit of the Hatch green chilies. My only suggestion is dress the plate up a bit, it was very plain. The fish and chips were good, two large pieces of fish with crispy french fries. The staff at Mulligans and Best Western are very nice, helpful and professional. Food is very good and reasonable. I'm not ashamed to say I like a big meal and like to get my monies worth. We've eaten here once for breakfast and twice for dinner. We will probably eat here again before we leave, mainly because I saw other dishes served that looked very appetizing. I came here last year and had probably one of the worst burritos I've ever even looked at. It had the nastiest ground beef I've ever seen with a significantly pink middle. Spending a little time in Raton again for work, and Mulligan's at the Best Western, is a surprise. While there're a decent number of fast-food/chain restaurants, if you want to eat at a real, local restaurant with a bar, a choice of some wines and some really good basic dishes, this is the place. We had a chicken fried steak, fried okra and not-from-box mashed potatoes. The house salad went beyond wilted iceberg to a variety of lettuces with tomatoes, cheese and croutons. With a plethora of New Mexican food every other place you go in New Mexico, it's nice to have those regional choices as well as a variety of other dishes. Cleanest, nicest restaurant in that town. The only place in Raton I've found that would be suitable for a quiet date, very relaxing after being on the road or at work all day. Prices are reasonable. Food is prepared just right. Full-size servings, good for people who can take leftovers home. Decent beers on tap and a full bar. Great service on my most recent visit. They do close at 9 o'clock, which isn't great for us travelers who are on the road late. And they are not open for lunch. Nice restaurant in a Best Western Motel with ample parking. I ordered the pulled pork dinner with cole slaw and mac and cheese as my sides. The cole slaw wasn't that good, it was pretty tasteless. The mac and cheese was mushy like it had been in a large pot on low heat too long. The pulled pork was very good and it was a generous portion. The BBQ sauce they use has a nice taste, not overly sweet. The place is clean and a really comfortable enviroment. The manager came around to tables to see that all was well, thats a nice touch. Everyone who worked there seemed to be enjoying their jobs and that showed in the great service I received the moment I walked in. Good food, great service. I rate an 8 out of 10. I prefer home cooked meals, not big on eating out. Therefore for me to rate that is good. The green chili sauce is flavorful. The fried chicken tenders fresh not frozen. The potatoes good, gravy had no flavor and was watery not thick. To me it ruined the mashed potatoes and I wish I would of tasted before putting on. Driving through Raton on our way to Colorado, we looked for a list of "best restaurants in Raton," and this was one of the top 10 and one of only 2-3 that were even open until 9:00 pm instead of 8:00. We took a chance, even though this is a hotel restaurant and was known for not having much atmosphere (which was totally fine, we were hungry and tired). Were seated wordlessly by a teenager who never smiled, spoke, or made eye contact. Waited for 15 minutes and NO ONE approached to GREET us, bring waters, take a drink order, or even to apologize for the wait. It was NOT crowded and there was a bartender and 2 servers, and it was over an hour before closing time (7:45), (they are open 5:00-9:00), so there was no excuse for not even acknowledging our arrival at a table. We finally got up and silently walked out, and the waitress walking past us with a check for another table saw us (made direct eye contact with me), but never acknowledged that we were there, or that we were leaving. I'd give this restaurant a pass if it were crowded or if they were clearly understaffed. But they were just lazy and socially inept, like they were all drugged. Wow! So tasty! We ate dinner here, trying their signature cocktails. VERY tasty (and STRONG!). After driving all day, I must have had an empty stomach, because it hit me hard. Still, I was able to eat, and it was delicious. Pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and french fries. My wife enjoyed her food, too, as well as her draught beer (five flavors). In the morning, those staying at the incredibly nice Best Western hotel (see reviews), get to enjoy a free breakfast. It is NOT a standard continental breakfast, but a hot breakfast buffet with eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, and tortillas. Yes, you can also get bagels, danishes, and other breads (some days they have biscuits and gravy), as well as fruit, yogurt, and oatmeal with all the trimmings, too. They have red and green chiles in small 2 oz plastic cups, but they're kept in a fridge, so are very cold, and therefore a bit unsettling when you put them on your hot food. Taste good, though. Coffee and eight types of tea, as well as orange, apple, and cranberry juices. The one caveat to the bar/restaurant is that it closes at 9 pm, at least during the week. Raton is a small town, but with only two bars in town, you'd think they'd stay open later. Service was incredibly friendly, especially the manager, Eddie. If and when we move here, we'll go here quite regularly, and definitely every time we come back to visit. read more

This is really one of the worst options in the area. No one should patronize this establishment. The service is abysmal. The food is mediocre at best. Also, they make up this weird restriction. They will only serve you one beer or drink and they tell you as a matter of policy the 'state law' prevents them from serving you another one. Seriously! There is no such state law. Had a long day on the road? Enjoying some time with friends and family? Too bad. Not only will you have to wait ten minutes to order, 20 minutes for the food, but you can't even have a few beers while you wait. Do not give them your time or money. I'll go with 4 Stars because it is the only non-chain place in Raton to have a good meal. It was not a culinary delight, but it was a satisfying meal. I don't know why I was thinking I could find a great meal in Raton ( translates to "little mouse"). The staff here were great. Hostess Ivy sat us promptly and had a smile on her face as she greeted each guest. Server, Tess, was professional and efficient. The one star given is even too much!! We were referred to this restaurant by our hotel clerk so me and my husband decided to give it a try. We arrived and immediately thought WOW this place seems really nice for a hotel restaurant. We were greeted immediately and sat at the table. And we sat and we sat and we looked around and wondered why no one has came to our table. We thought we'll maybe they are a little busy so we waited patiently and looked at the game on the tv for a little bit and then started to wonder again how much longer before someone came over to us. There were others around at other tables and we seen the waitress going from table to table so we thought hmmm she would be over soon. Well we ended up watching almost the whole 3rd quarter of the game that was on and then another couple was seated right behind us and wouldn't you know it that waitress came right over to them and never acknowledged us sitting there. She proceeded to take their drink order and me and my husband decided to get up and leave. Now we are a mixed couple (my husband is black and I am white) I'm not sure if that's why they didn't want to wait on us But I'm definitely willing to bet it was. Which is a very big mistake on their part because we have a lot of our company employees that come through this area daily for over night stays and they will NOT get any of our business!!! This placed is tucked away in the hotel lobby. It's a southwest designed restaurant. The staff was very friendly. I guess they changed their menu recently because there were like 5 things they couldn't make from lack of equipment.. including the spinach dip!! I got the spinach salad and tortilla soup. The reason I love Yelp! Solid great choices for dining and other things! We were in Raton for a layover on a road trip between Phoenix and Denver. It was my parent's 60th wedding anniversary and the poor things had to spend it in a car travelling. So, I worked really hard, researching online, to find the best place to go. I stumbled on Mulligans and read reviews, which were good and the photos sealed the deal. Teresa (Tre) was our server and from the moment we met her we knew it would be the most amazing dinner! She was super attentive, always cheerful and funny, and made us feel like we were at home instead of nowhere in particular. Matthew presented a great bottle of wine from their good wine list and away we went to begin a fabulous meal. Being gluten free and tucked in this charming town made me nervous, but Tre was super informed and helped me every step of the way. My dinner was a caesar salad with grilled chicken and Tre made sure it was made perfectly before bringing it to me. How wonderful to have someone in the kitchen to guarantee my celiac restrictions! My father had the most amazing (according to him, but he doesn't lie!) brisket that Tre told us they smoke in house on the premises. Dad loved it and it seriously had to be at least a pound of meat if not more. It was sliced and covered in a homemade sauce! Mom's grilled chicken was perfectly spiced as were the green beans she had with it. Mulligans also features a homemade mac-n-cheese that mom raved about for days! Thank you to the staff for a wonderful dinner. Mom and Dad even received a complimentary dessert and anniversary songs by the serving staff. How fabulous! The decor is clean and urban but warm as well with lots of natural stone and wood. I would highly suggest having a meal here and asking for Tre...she was the perfect server!
