Played at Rusted Rail Golf today in Crandall, and have a few takeaway. 1) Majority of the tee boxes are flat and in good condition, think there was only 2 that were iffy. 2) Fairways are in tip top shape and soft, rough was nice and thick. Miss the fairway and can easily lose your ball as it sits down so much. 3) GREENS ARE HORRIBLE! They are so bad from the wasp digging holes in them that the greenskeeper was out there this morning with leaf blower blowing them. Had to skip one green completely as there was just to many wasp to consider playing. (Probably 40+ swarming). On top of that there was practically no grass on them. All in all if they recover the greens, this course would be unbelievable. read more

I've played here multiple times since moving to the area a year ago and the course is pretty good. Wide open, very forgiving. The par 3s are longer than normal and it makes them a little harder which I like and don't like. Some of the greens are really rough and look like they had maintenance mishaps but the fairways are pretty standard for most public courses in the DFW area. Only have two complaints. The price ($75 on weekends) I think is a little high for our area and what it is. It's not a Plano/Frisco level course. Second issue is food and bev service. I don't think they have cart girls and they have a snack shack midway through but it's rarely open earlier than 11. If you have an early tee time you just have to wait for the turn. read more

Really enjoyed the course. It is wide open, which I like. Had just the right amount of challenge. Grabbed dinner after the round and really like it. The cheese fries were awesome and the bacon burger was done perfectly. Already booked my next tee time!! read more

So far, my family and I have been to Rusted Rail Golf Club 3 times, and have had an excellent experience. It's a full service golf club for public use. The course is simplistic, but challenging enough to be respected. The food is decent and affordable. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. Golf carts are in good shape and operate properly. The course was in good shape even after an ice storm a little less than 2 weeks prior. I completely expected the course to be poor in condition for winter golf after a recent ice storm. But it was in amazing condition for the time of year and circumstances. If you have a bad experience at this course, I will pay for your next round, so you can give them a second chance. It used to be a pretty decent golf course where you could go play low-stakes golf and have a good time. They recently increased the prices nearly double for not really adding anything of value. The ownership is rude and never calls back. Happy to drive to garland now to pay half the price and play where the owner is friendly and not rude read more

Patty melt average. Mostly hamburger and bread. A few chips of onion. You could hardly see the thousand island dressing. French fries were good. Tea tasted store-bought Milos. No printed receipt to see what you are being charged for. You have to ask to look at the digital pad. Nice server.​ read more

Has dinner with wife and food/service was amazing. Had Teriyaki and Buffalo Wings which were very good. Wife had Reuben sandwich and onion rings and ate every bit of it. Service great... met entertainment Mgr who was very friendly. Learned they have Karaoke on Tuesday nights and live bands on Thursdays. Absolutely brutal! The pace of play here outweighs any positive course conditions or how much they improved their clubhouse. Drunks , singles placed between foursomes and an actual group of eight on a Saturday!! No Marshall, no starter, no employees in sight - except at the cash register to get your green fee. read more

Avoid this course for at least a year maybe 2. 100% of tee boxes are solid inch of sand, 99.5% of greens are compacted dirt and mud. Understandable that there would be some damage from the harsh storms but this is beyond ridiculous as other courses I've played over the past month are no where close to as horrendous as this course. So, for over $40 on a weekday for these conditions do yourself the favor and pass on this grounds nightmare. read more

First, allow me to say that N. Texas weather in Feb/Mar 2021 has wreaked havoc on many businesses with golf courses bearing no small burden in recovery. That said, I have played a handful of times in the past month since the winter storm and each of those courses have been able to get themselves back into typical winter shape. I cannot say the same for Rusted Rail since this is the first time I've played it but I did expect to play from turfgrass (or something like it) on the tees, fairways and greens. I hope that this would normally be the case at RR instead of the muddy, sticky dirt that we played from this weekend. The soil composition seemed to be disproportionately low in sand or silt content making the surface very firm. Because there was so little vegetation most of course was washed-out to the point that if you took even the slightest divot from the fairway your clubhead needed thorough cleaning (I ran out of space on my towel...). Tee boxes and putting surfaces were mostly dirt. The course layout and design was nice and so I imagine that if the course health was better RR would be a fine place to play. Maybe the course was a victim of circumstance. But for me, I can at least say that I gave it the "college try" and seriously doubt that I will play there again anytime soon. read more

Course for the time of year was great. Carts worked as they should. The boy behind the register was rude to the group of people before me but when I walked up to the register to check in I got the same attitude and disrespect as the group before. Then when come to clubhouse after first nine everyone in my group got the same disrespect from him. He advised we couldn't eat inside even tho it was raining outside. And that he would make us hotdogs and that we had to eat as we played. The female was very respectful and had told us we could sit down and order a hot meal but he voiced over her and told us we had to eat as we played and only hot food would be hotdogs even though there was two other groups inside eating. If not for the boy behind counter we would definitely be back. read more

The course is in nice shape but the management is not very user friendly. Will not allow handicapped people or anyone to take cart to get bag from car. Complained to no avail. Would play here more if they cared. read more

Rusted Rail greens were damaged due to unexpected extreme cold conditions as other golf course greens in Dallas. Those that covered the greens were survivors but some remain damaged. Lessons Learned in the future however Rusted Rail GM is awaiting warm conditions. All greens are seeded and in 3- months this course will come alive again. Weather needs to get to 80 degrees. The facilities and staff are incredible. The food can not be compared to Sherrill, Buffaleo Creek or Firewheel for starters it is awesome- especially their hamburgers and salads. Their staff are very friendly and courteous. Rusted Rail management is experienced and this golf course is and will be a premier golf course that golfers will come again and again. Just waiting for the weather to stay 80 degrees! Temporary greens will be created. This facility has come a long way to rebuild to this point and was positioned for an awesome 2021 course from the year prior. Greens are not at playing level today but it will come back in 3- months that will meet and exceed expectations. read more

Well I've been waiting to put a post on this course for years and I finally get to today. I played this course back in the 90s when they had some of the best public greens in the metroplex and I have played this course for $15 and felt like I was ripped off. This course needed a lot of love and attention to and it has got it. I would say right now this is one of the best public courses in the metroplex. The food in the club house is excepcional for a golf course!!! It is still a work in progress but bang for the buck he will not find a better course to play in the metroplex. read more

Recently played Rusted Rail Golf Club. I am a member and understand this club has a new owner. It has come a long way from what it used to be. However, the greens need a lot more attention! They are green but that is about all. They are slow and bumpy with a lot of crab grass mixed in. They are almost unputtable for a decent golfer. I could not recommend playing here only because of the greens. Most decent golfers like smooth speedy greens. These are not! Members have complained to management with no results! Hopefully the ownership will intervene! read more

I played this course on May 19th and a couple of times prior to the change in management (while under the prior "Creekview" name). As before , the course layout /design is great. It's challenging to the good golfer without being overly penal. Also enjoyable to the novice when played from the right tees. The new management has added a number of sand traps and the work to improve conditions of fairways and greens was evident during my visit. Access to the course via the restricted road off US 175 is tricky, with a semi "hairpin" type right turn (Slow down). I believe this is currently the only way into and out of the property. Overall, a good challenging course that will get only better with continuing maturity of greens and fairways. read more

Overall the course is in great condition. A couple of the greens needed help, but they are working on them. They have done a wonderful job on the clubhouse and amenities. Nice driving range and practice area. New carts. I would highly recommend. Very nice - I will be back! read more
