Both practice in the office next door to the Red Cross and I must say that I haven't had better dentists. First of all, Scott is a hottie, and that is a perfectly fine reason to go see your dentist. :-) Above and beyond that, the hygenists are thorough and they give you tips about how you should take care of your teeth better (rather than just saying you need to brush or floss more) and they provide you with tools you may need to do that (i have these dental sticks that i absolutely hate) My dentist also takes care of bite issues, headache problems, and he gives a little temple massage during an examination that makes being in that God Awful chair just slightly more enjoyable. If you need a dentist, I highly recommend either Scott or his father Larry.

I need to hype myself up just to book the appointment, and then double that to actually show up. But, a friend recommended Derksen Dentistry, and after some extensive (read: borderline obsessive) research, I decided to take the plunge. I needed an advanced root canal and figured, why not throw in a cleaning while I'm at it? The first thing that set the tone was my call to Susan. She was so calming and reassuring that I felt like I was calling a life coach, not a dentist's office. She promised me they'd make my visit as relaxing as possible, which is a tall order when you're about to face down a drill and some sharp objects in your mouth. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted (on time, too, which felt like an anomaly in itself). The assistant was super helpful, constantly checking in with me during the x-rays, which was nice since I was pretty sure my mouth was about to go on strike from all the poking. Then came Dr. Derksen. Now, I'm not the type to buy into "auras" or anything, but this guy had an aura of, "Hey, I've got this. You can relax." I felt it. He triple-checked to make sure I was completely numb before starting the root canal--because apparently, "feeling your teeth getting drilled" is not on anyone's bucket list. The whole process went smoothly, and to my surprise, I didn't leave feeling like I'd just fought a battle with a power tool. What really sealed the deal was that they followed up the next day to check on me. I mean, where else do you get a dentist who cares enough to make sure you're not secretly plotting your revenge on him for the trauma? Long story short, I walked out of Derksen Dentistry with all my teeth intact and a new, surprisingly positive outlook on dental visits. Ok so this review is long because I have so much to say!…read moreYesterday was my first time being seen at Modern Dental East Lansing Smiles. I am 100% satisfied! I am going on 36 weeks pregnant and have been dealing with wisdom teeth pain for the past month and half. The other place I originally was scheduled to go to could not get me in until beginning of April two weeks postpartum. My husband has been going here, East Lansing Smiles, and has not had anything bad to say about them. So, I figured I would call them up and see if they could get me in sooner since I was in desperate need. They got me in the next day! The office staff were very nice and easy going. I felt like I could talk to them for hours. They were very compassionate as well. The way they made us feel like family, especially on my first visit. No doubt I was comfortable being there. Mandy was also very helpful with getting me in asap! They went over the billing information before they started anything. Delta Dental covered most of it and we end up paying less than what we expected! Dr. Ali performed the extraction and was very quick and efficient. He is really good at what he does! And he made sure the whole time I was comfortable and knew what he was doing. I am so glad I decided to come here for my first ever tooth extraction. I was so nervous! But Dr Ali and his staff did so well at making sure I was comfortable. I have never had that at a dental office. Unfortunately, I cannot remember her name. His assistant was so sweet. She offered something for me to eat before the extraction which was super thoughtful. She showed me where the bathroom was which is funny because earlier that day I told my husband that I hope I didn't have to use it in the middle of the procedure being pregnant and all lol but thankfully the procedure did not take long at all. The assistant was also very caring and was by my side the whole time assuring me that I was doing great. We all talked about babies and how exciting it all was. Any time I have been to a dental office it has been all about getting down to business and getting the patient in and out as fast as they can. This place was about that, but also about taking their time with their patient and making sure the patient was comfortable, and very well informed. They were compassionate with a little humor, while staying professional. I definitely will return for any other needs and will most likely be taking my toddler here!

His front desk staff asked me to pay up front $500 and next visit $500, I wasn't comfortable with this as I had never been asked to pay up prior to any dental services before. They owe me $200 which I have been asking for since Feb 2024. I have spoken directly to East Lansing Modern Dental biller supervisor, I have had my dental insurance co speak with her several times and now I will be leaving this review and contacting BBB and Consumer Protection Agency/AG's Office. I am not well and this whole thing has stressed me out. The biller knows what she has to do because my dental insurance co has directed her to do it but she refuses.

Take it…read morefrom me, a dental phobia-prone grown-up who drove around the block where Dr. Behnke's office was earlier located for three weeks before I could get up enough nerve to even go inside and inquire, when I first moved to town ten years ago. From that atypical perspective, I can honestly say, without hesitation, that I trust Dr. Behnke above any other dentist of whom I have ever been a patient. So that's saying something! She has always been forthright with what needs to be done, explains procedures along the way, and has gone out of her way to put me at ease. I think her authentic manner is key. Those working with her have reflected the same tone. I have recommended her consistently to those I know who are searching for a dentist. And I must also offer applause for Barb, the dental hygienist who has provided six-month cleanings for me for a decade, now -- for her careful, patient and gentle touch, and her ability to put me at ease time after time, all these years! Last, I appreciate the fact that Dr. Behnke is not part of a group practice, as so many medical offices are becoming.
