I must say we had a bad experience here. Not because of the doctor himself, but they made a goof…read moreof the billing and were completely unwilling to budge afterwards. We called in ahead of time and gave them the insurance information. My wife needed her wisdom teeth removed. They told us our insurance covers that. Great. So my wife went in and got the procedure done. Everything seemed super. Then... we got the bill. It was something like $400 - $500!! I'm like... what? Called them up and they're like, yeah, your insurance doesn't cover extractions. I told them that we verified this beforehand and you told us that they do cover extractions. She admitted that she said that and said she was just wrong. I'm OK, so what are you going to do about it? She's like... well, nothing, you have to pay. I'm like listen, you told me the price of the procedure up front. There were no complications and no extra charges. You can't just change the price on me by like $400 and just expect me to pay. We talked to her, her manager, etc. etc. Nobody was willing to understand. At the least, I expected to pay a reduced amount. That was my thought. It was your mistake, but I'm a reasonable guy. If the insurance is not going to pay you anything, then maybe we can split the difference. Nothing... no cooperation at all. I didn't want to deal with collections and risk my credit, so I just paid it. However, I will never go back and I will tell people I know about what they did.

I have had bad experiences with dentists before and Dr. Deyoung always takes the time to explain the procedure and what is going on with my teeth - as well as gives different options for treatment. She never pressures her patients into any type of treatment, and I haven't had any problems with the filling she did 2 years ago. The office and staff also goes above and beyond to answer any questions. When I had questions about the filling material (I was pregnant and am breastfeeding) Dr. Deyoung did the research and was very attentive to my concerns. This really is one of most pleasant offices around, and I would recommend Dr. Deyoung in a heartbeat for any dental work.

It was a fantastic visit and I highly recommend people give her an opportunity to help with their dental needs. Dr. DeYoung has a very warm chair-side personality and provided excellent care of me today. It's been a few years since I'd ventured in to a dental office and was pleasantly surprised with the new techniques they used (high-tech and painless bite wing x-rays). First time I can remember leaving a dentist office that my jaw and gums weren't threatening to get even with me. Really can't say enough good things about my visit as I'm still in shock it was such a pleasant experience. Guess I'll keep my next appointment. :)

I chose this office for their "BPA free" fillings well the Filtek they use is not even BPA free only Diamond and Venus brand is. First off the dental assistant was so rude because I did not want x ray's - she acted inconvenienced because they had to call my old dentist for x -ray's and then the Tristen Smith the dentist did not even INTRODUCE herself or shake my hand. She went on to look at my teeth and didn't even examine everything until I asked her to she then said "you have a lot of cavities" .. uh ok? so how many do I have? I had to keep asking questions to find out about anything. I was also told that they had "emergency clients" which is why they could not do my cleaning. SO GROSSLY UNPROFESSIONAL. STAY AWAY. There are much better alternatives in the EL area. The best part of the visit was the extremely nice front desk receptionist and props to her for putting up with that office. Maybe if they spent more money training in customer service than decorating their fancy office this place would be worth coming to.

When they were finished they decided to tell me they weren't going to clean my teeth today because they didn't have enough time. The dentist and dental assistant said "by the time we realized you needed a full exam (still never explained what a full exam entails) it was too late to call you". So on top of the excessive amounts of rescheduling they don't even respect their patients time enough to give them a 30 seconds phone call. At no point in time did they say "sorry I should have explained that to you" or "sorry we should have called you" they almost made it seem like it was my fault. I am super bummed because I really wanted to like this practice. I will give them one more chance before I go back to my old dentist (who always went above and beyond to communicate scheduling and any other changes that may occur). Let me start by saying--I hate going to the dentist. It takes more mental preparation than running…read morea marathon. I need to hype myself up just to book the appointment, and then double that to actually show up. But, a friend recommended Derksen Dentistry, and after some extensive (read: borderline obsessive) research, I decided to take the plunge. I needed an advanced root canal and figured, why not throw in a cleaning while I'm at it? The first thing that set the tone was my call to Susan. She was so calming and reassuring that I felt like I was calling a life coach, not a dentist's office. She promised me they'd make my visit as relaxing as possible, which is a tall order when you're about to face down a drill and some sharp objects in your mouth. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted (on time, too, which felt like an anomaly in itself). The assistant was super helpful, constantly checking in with me during the x-rays, which was nice since I was pretty sure my mouth was about to go on strike from all the poking. Then came Dr. Derksen. Now, I'm not the type to buy into "auras" or anything, but this guy had an aura of, "Hey, I've got this. You can relax." I felt it. He triple-checked to make sure I was completely numb before starting the root canal--because apparently, "feeling your teeth getting drilled" is not on anyone's bucket list. The whole process went smoothly, and to my surprise, I didn't leave feeling like I'd just fought a battle with a power tool. What really sealed the deal was that they followed up the next day to check on me. I mean, where else do you get a dentist who cares enough to make sure you're not secretly plotting your revenge on him for the trauma? Long story short, I walked out of Derksen Dentistry with all my teeth intact and a new, surprisingly positive outlook on dental visits. Dr. Derksen, you've earned a lifetime patient... just maybe not a lifetime of root canals, please.

When I got my cleaning, I paid for the mouthguard. When I got my scans for the mouthguard, I was scheduled an appointment for pick up in January because that's the soonest that it would be available, and confirm that I was paid. When I checked out after picking up my mouthguard, I was told that I still owed. The claim was not put through until January because that's when I picked it up and the price increased by 160%. At no time when I made the appointments, checked out, paid for the mouthguard, or made the appointment for pick up, was I told that this would not be filed until January. I did discuss when I made the appointments that my insurance in 2026 was not as good and they cheered me on for making the appointment in December and paying in cash. Whether this was shady practices to get more money, or lack of training for those who schedule, sit reception/checkout, do the scans, those I interacted with multiple times, I don't know. They will not refund what I paid. So now I'm not only out that money, but the mouthguard. Be careful when they are soliciting appointments. Make sure they are charging your insurance timely and correctly.
