I like the rusty lantern franchise but I Bought a $13 salad , it came with no dressing so i grabbed 3 dressing PACKETS cause who eats grass with no dressing . Tried to use self checkout and it needed an employee login and she was just standing around clearly not attending to the checkout lane. So I go to her lane and she checks me out grabbing 2 outta the 3 packets outta my hand saying " not all of those" ... Like Oh shyt my bad , I thought that came with a salad lady , lmfao . UPDATE: The air pump at this gas station *sometimes* works, and when it does you need to hold your card in the machine while mashing the "air" option. Similar to the Cumberland Farm's on Washington Ave, I have never been inside the Rusty Lantern Market. I have no idea what the staff is like or if the store itself is clean. I just come here for gas and to put air in my tires. It's a good spot because it's tucked just slightly off two very busy roads (yet it's always pretty seamless getting in and out of this parking lot, which by the way is enormous!). I never seem to have to wait for a gas pump! Negative though? The trash can by the air pump is usually overflowing (and there is litter *all over* the ground; kind of icky!). read more

This store is the largest of the Rusty's I've been in. They have a great selection of about anything you would want on the go. The folks who were here were great getting you out quick and still carrying on a conversation. If you need to fill up your tank whether it's your car or you, this is a great place to stop. They have several Rusty's locations and each one has been just like the rest, clean, quick, and friendly! read more

Happy to continue my fandom of the Rusty Lantern with a review of their new location in SoPo. Before I begin, I just want to say that this possible trend of expanding Rusty Lantern markets at Irving stations is a major win for this area as our current state of gas-station-convenience-markets is pretty sad. This new location seems as good, if not better than the first. By better, I mean bigger. There seems to be a bigger coffee bar, more tables for seating and a roomier food prep area. There also seems to be a kids karate school upstairs in the same building. While watching two adorable sisters run upstairs to their class, the mother in me thought this could easily be a quality spot to grab them a quick meal after class on a school night. Quality is what makes the Rusty Lantern different from other convenience stores. The prepared food easily match your favorite deli in quality. They also pass other places by in the quality of their coffee, and surprisingly, soda! I am not a fan of soda in general, but not all soda is created the same. Maine Root is definitely a better choice if looking for soda, and they have Maine Root on tap! They have crazy good indulgent treats like gigantic brownies and hand sized chocolate chip cookies served warm. The next time you are heading to Irving to fill up your car, find your way to this spot! read more

I don't imagine many people think very much (or often) about getting food at a gas station market. To be fair, most only offer premade crap you nuke and scarf at 2am on the fly. This place has actual cooking equipment and ingredients to pick from. Today, 2 breakfast items were sampled. A sandwich and a burrito of solidly acceptable quality. This is an Irving station market, so they have rewards punch cards for both food and coffee. Get both cards, they are free. This was Plan C for an early morning on a long day, but it may be worth higher consideration. I will be back to try other meal options. read more

I visited Rusty Lantern two hours ago and purchased macaroni and cheese and egg salad mini-sandwich buns. The mac&cheese was more like soup even though I added shredded vegetables to it, and the egg salad were pleasant without much taste. I was disappointed. I very much like the store, it is attractive and well maintained, and the staff is very helpful. I think these items could be considered and I wish them well. read more

I have so much to say about this place! It is right below Riverview Martial Arts and since my ten year old daughter takes karate there, we stop frequently for meals. Man! Everyone is so nice. They know my daughter by name and she asks for, "The Usual". She's basically like Norm on Cheers when she goes to the Rusty Lantern. It seems like a chain convenience store, but is it more like a local diner. We love it. I'd also like to add that we ask for a lot of accommodations and menu changes and everyone there is super flexible and they just want us to be happy with our order. At first glance I almost wrote it off, because I am a health food nut, but after getting to know them the customer service is well worth it and there are plenty of healthy food choices. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN A ZERO but I figured it should be at least 1 seeing how the doors are open and lights are on and oh yes that's right I can buy gas too, well sometimes if the pumps and all parking spaces are not being taken up by people attending the martial arts class, summer camp, day care or their parents( who's idea was this ? ) make all your paying customers have to walk a miles from the back of the parking lot to get a drink or snack at the store or wait to get gas while a parent is picking up their child and couldn't find a space so why not park at the pump!!!!!!!!! Wow and yes witnessed it first hand numerous times. This cant be good for your bottom line!!!!!! Speaking of not being good for your bottom line, I dont know what has happened to this place but it use to be a 5 star and now it's awful, the old staff, food, service and inventory was second to none but now it's awful awful awful they cant employ anyone with good people skills, work ethic and good customer service, they cant keep cups, straws, fountain drinks stocked up!!!!! Always running out in fact they dont teach there staff how to change out the fountain soda mix,,,,,, REALLY????? I've changed it out with no exaggeration 6 times myself and I've had to inform the staff where to get me the box of mix to do so!!!!!!! Today it happened again and I approach Mr personality, Mr piss poor people skills at the counter and inform him that 3 of the fountain mix boxes are empty and I get a very poor attitude stating I CANT DO A THING ABOUT IT !!!!!!!! Holy Cow really ? Well who can? Now here comes the kicker most days you go in there and there must be at least 4 senior level managers having around a table BSing and their faces buried in a lap top while the poor location Manager is running her butt off doing everything and not one senior manager will lift a finger to help!!!!!! If this was my company I'd cut all that overhead and get some help in their before its toooooo late. The turnover there which I get to an extent it's tough finding good help these days but I have held many years of senior management positions and managed many P&Ls but this place has a new face daily and it reflects on the service and quality of the food etc. The food went from delicious and decently priced to nasty frozen, premade vending machine quality food and its soooooooo over priced, $7 for 3 small chicken tenders that are half cooked and the breading on the outside is as white as the chicken inside, pizza is paper thin, over cooked and dry or under cooked dough is still gooey and a liter of grease on it, oh and charged me $3 at 6 pm for a slice made at noon!!!!! Yuck yuck yuck!!!!!!employees handling food with no gloves after helping on the register handling money,,,,,, can you say food born illness much?????? $8 for a sandwich that is the quality of gas station 3 am frozen burrito. I have spent and continue to spend alot of money there and I'm very saddened to see this happen... I am a very loyal customer to the establishments I visit and I always take my business to them but not if they dont want to treat me with the same. What a shame this could be a good thing because it use to be.... a prime example of getting too big too fast and forgetting about your loyal customers!!!!! read more
