Cute little diner in Carson City Michigan. Went with a group of about 20 people for breakfast on a Monday. Prices were good and a lot of options. Breakfast buffet is only offered on the weekend. Waitress was friendly and asked multiple times if we needed anything. Food was ok. I had oatmeal and Hashbrowns. Oatmeal was dry and wasn't a fan of the Hashbrowns. Everyone who got the steak and eggs were satisfied with their meals though. A hole in the wall that's starting to show its age. Been there a few times. Must say the food is really good and the service runs a close second. Cute country type restaurant with country style cooking. I ordered pancakes for breakfast once and the order comes with 3, the waitress asked if I'd ever had their pancakes, I said no, she suggested I just order one pancake! I went with her suggestion and so glad I did, that one pancake was the size of my whole plate!! And very good. Everything I have had there was excellent. They have a buffet for all three meals and reasonable prices. Very good food, of course I will be back! read more

Food was good, friendly service and quick service. I ordered the cod fish basket it was good comes with two pieces of fish. We also order onion rings, batter and very yummy! Gizzards was cooked just right and lightly battered and a smelt basket, yes it was a fried craving day! The Gizzards are better than Gizzard City, for those that like gizzards lol the prices of food is reasonable to, they also offer a buffet with country home cooked food (fried chicken, mash potatoes and etc.) plus they have a salad bar too. We stopped here since we were passing through town. We sat down and there was minimal people inside. We ordered and waited over an hour for our appetizer. There was not enough people that made it to busy. We sat and watched people walk in, eat and leave. We were still sitting there. My assumption is that all the other people were caucasian and my husband is Hispanic. It's really obvious when you watch other people walk in, get served and leave. The waitress apologized because she knew but didn't say nothing. We finally got our appetizer that was wrong. The waitress was notified and she walked away. If I could give ZERO STARS I would. I usually take pictures but I was to embarrassed for them to do that. Then I asked my husband if he wanted to leave because it was an hour and a half at that point. The waitress kept stating she would speak to the manager. Unfortunately the rhetoric is if your Hispanic your not welcome here. Don't eat here because the food is not worth waiting over two hours. Oh she gave me $10.00 off even though the appetizer was wrong and the food was almost a two hour wait. I guess they didn't want to serve us. read more

Good local place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Great staff, wonderful service! My partner had the buffet lunch- meatloaf, fried chicken, grilled cheese, tomato basil & chicken pot pie soup, .....salad bar....veggies...breads & yummy desserts I had a perfectly grilled patty-melt with extra onions! So good! And a very good bloody mary! They also do a very nice weekend brunch- Good value . great service. Good food! read more

The Rusty Nail in Carson City is a great place to have breakfast. However their supper buffet is something else. Usually it is about average to enjoy. But I went there tonight to have the buffet and they raised the price almost double tonight. That was double what it usually is and the food was no different than usual. After tonight we will be looking for somewhere else to eat at. good food, but not for those prices. read more

We were there with friends for the first time on a Saturday night. We arrived at 8:30- told us that they closed at 9:00, but were still willing to serve us. Our server was very abrupt- you could tell she didn't want any more customers. Brought our food, and never came back! Food was average at best. Another waitress started sweeping around our table during dinner and bumped my chair several times. She was ready to go home- coat and backpack were on! we were talking as a group- I glanced over and the waitress was rolling her eyes at us, still never came to ask if our meal was ok, needed a refill... nothing. Very poor environment. Dirty and old. We had to figure out on our own whether to wait to be seated or find a table. When nobody came we finally chose to sit down at these very old table and chair sets. The restaurant offered mostly deep fried food and a salad bar that looked like it could be from the 1900's. The menu was way overpriced for the quality!!! Also, the menu was too big and offered too many types. They need to downsize the menu and choose a few things they may be "good at", which is not much, I guarantee. Overall the atmosphere made me lose my appetite (big-time) and wonder what goes on in the kitchen and fridge. It brought to mind Gordon Ramsey's show, Restaurant Impossible". I could imagine mold, old leftovers, bugs, etc in the back. None of the workers looked happy. The glasses were hung up on weird wood, and nothing was neat and organized. My mashed potatoes were most definitely boxed, and the "broiled" fish was horrible. I asked for steamed broccoli instead of a salad, which was a pile of broccoli with all the water in a cereal bowl. I tasted my husband's fried perch, which was covered in so much breading, and it was soggy underneath it all with water and grease. I regretted going here from the moment my husband pulled in. We thought a family outing and stopping at a "hole in the wall family restaurant" would be good. We were wrong and never plan on coming back or telling our friends about it. The staff was very mean and rude. The food was average at best. I got the patty melt and my husband got a roast beef sandwich. I don't plan on going back. My review is based 100% on their catering and delivery service. I have never dined inside their restaurant. The only reason I gave two star was because the deliverer of the food was courteous and helpful. I live about 2 hours from Carson City and came to the area for one of my relative's graduation parties on Saturday at West Park. . According to the parent's of the graduate, they ordered chicken, biscuits, potato salad, coleslaw, and macaroni salad from the Rusty Nail on Friday (i believe Friday night) for 11:00 AM delivery at West Park on Saturday. The food was delivered 30 minutes late. Several attempts at calling the Rusty Nail proved fruitless (no answer). When one staff member did answer, the person responded that the delivery was for 11:30 AM, not 11:00 (which was refuted by the people ordering it0. After about 20 minutes went by with no food, I personally left the part and went to the Rusty Nail. We had elderly people, kids, and a diabetic whose sugar level was plummeting due to the lack of food due to it being late all while waiting in near 90 degree heat. . When i arrived at the restaurant, I eventually spoke with the person in charge who explained to me that the delivery time was 11:30, not 11:00. She was very defensive while I remained polite, but concerned. I left stating that I would never eat there again. The staff people were (to coin a phrase) "trying to urinate down my back and tell me its raining." Just as I arrived back at the park, the food was delivered at 11:30. Based on the available evidence, either Rusty Nail staff forgot our order or wrote the wrong time down. When the food arrived, the chicken was very good except for one piece that was undercooked without much coating on it and I had to throw it away,. I had one biscuit that was cold (which is hard to do in almost 90 degree weather). The salads were good. I am just disappointed some of the Rusty Nail staff refused to take responsibility for their errors. They must be Trump supporters. Don't worry, I will not eat their or order food from there ever again. read more

For a town this size The Rusty Nail is pretty good. They have a salad bar and daily specials. Their food is mighty tasty. Taco Salad is good and so are the wing dings. The wing dings come with a side of Cole slaw or macaroni salad. I like the Cole slaw. Restaurant is well taken care of and clean. read more

Buffet is amazing. Wait staff is consistent and fun. Friday buffets are the best. Burgers are wonderful.

I give this place a 2 star because the staff was lazy but our waitress was very friendly and kind. Also the food isn't homemade, because when we asked about the items on the menu we were informed that many of the breaded items (shrimp, wing dings, fish...). And that they come in that way (not made there). The food wasn't terrible but it was definitely just your only place to eat in a rural town. read more

I'm not sure what these other reviewers were eating but it most certainly was not what we had! I ordered the hamburger special. My husband ordered the hamburger steak dinner. It took over 40 minutes to get our food. My meal was supposed to come with coleslaw which it did not. The burger was very dry with no seasoning. The mashed potatoes that came with my husband's meal were instant and the gravy was definitely from a can. My husband ordered iced tea and never once was asked if he would like a refill. It is definitely a hometown restaurant as everyone in there seemed to know each other. Wont be giving this place a second chance. read more

This was a cute little hole in the wall place that my mom, dad, sister and I stopped in to eat at while driving home from our vacation. The service was great. Our server was such a happy cute little woman! A real pleasure to have as a waitress. The place seemed pretty decently clean. There is a bar on the other side of the restaurant as well. We were all really happy with our food. They were offering a buffet for 9.49 which seemed to be very popular. I opted with the chicken strip dinner with fries and cottage cheese. The chicken strips were probably the most tender and juicy I have ever had. My mom and I also both got the beef noodle soup and it was excellent. Very flavorful. My mom had liver and onions with mashed potatoes and a side salad which she was able to go to the salad bar for and create her own. She had asked for the gravy on the side with her potatoes and when the server brought it out she realized the cooks didnt honor that. She apologized a ton and asked if my mom wanted it taken back but my mom said it was fine and ended up saying that their gravy was actually really great. My sister had the beef sandwich with potatoes smothered in gravy which she said was very good. She ate the entire thing. My dad ended up getting the fish and chips which were two HUGE pieces of battered cod with fries. He said it was very good. I am super glad we stopped here! Looked a little like a dive bar from the outside so I am glad we didn't judge! I would go back again. read more
