My beau wanted to help me celebrate a personal milestone, so he brought me here as a rare treat from him. The downtown location has been one of his favourite restaurants for over a decade, so he was excited to bring me here to try this brand new location. Location: 4.5/5 In the heart of Markham downtown with plenty of outside and indoor parking, this area has many new restaurants, including this new addition that was inside the Marriott Hotel. Decor & Ambience: 4.5/5 High ceiling. Marbled tables with black tablecloth at each seat with napkin, two forks and two knives. A bar is in the middle and there are private rooms for events. Very modern and chic space. I almost got lost finding the washroom and somehow entered the hotel though... Food: 4/5 Each seasonal set consisted of 3 items. An app, a main and a default vanilla ice cream and caramel cheesecake for dessert. I love to share and taste everything Colvjn-friendly, so I got to try a bit of everything. The butternut squash bisque has some dairy in it, so that was for my beau. It was smooth, creamy and rich in flavour when I took a sip. The salad had a nice balsamic vinegar dressing with dried figs and goat cheese. I thought it could have been much more leafier... A diced carrot and squash side with onions was a bit too plain and small, even though kale and extra virgin olive oil was added, it could have been infused with more flavours from the oven. The fried sweet potatoes were well done! The honey garlic dressing was only on the middle each pieces, so I was able to use my knife to cut a slice or two from each one. I love how there were no oil on the bottom of the hot plate! All of them were crispy on the outside and softer in the Insider. So good! My beau's main was a 6oz filet and two large tiger shrimps on top. His was juicy and apparently just the right portion size for him, even though it looks so bare to me... My blackened Cajun snapper was rather dry... I know they tried their best to accommodate me, so they removed the sauce that originally matched with it, but the peppers and smokiness was not enough to satisfy my taste buds.. the rice underneath was quite hidden and it, too, was very dry and almost had no taste... I really liked my caramel cheesecake though, which I specifically took both Benadryl and lactaid pills for. Service: 4/5 My beau booked a table earlier in the day on OpenTable for 2 at 7, but they did not seem to have our reservation at all. They ended up giving us the table right at the entrance and not one of the half a dozen empty tables at the back that were were not grouped together, so it was not like they were expecting a large group. Later, my beau and I went to the washrooms at separate times and we both saw that there were plenty of empty tables at the back... when we asked the waiter, he went to ask the front desk and they said that they had no spare table... yay right. The waiter was very attentive though. He asked and checked in on us every few minutes and constantly refilled our water. He made sure to ask for any allergies and the kitchen made accommodations accordingly. Value: 3.5/5 Honestly, I would only ever come here if my beau insists on treating us and it's free for me, because not only is it quite pricy, which was a given, so I did not expect to have large portions of food, but the set meal I had did not feel like it was worth $60 at all and I have delicious food at this price range every month. It was just enough to make me not hungry, but everything was a bit too simple to be worth that much in my eyes. French inspired food in Quebec or a Japanese omakase/teppanyaki would have cost about the same for so much better service and value in my opinion. I tried their menu last April (2017) at their downtown locations and the menu did not seem to have changed at all. Would have loved more local/seasonal specials that differ year to year. Overall: 4/5 For a treat, this place is worth going to, since I am not the one paying for it. Anywhere charging an average of $40/main should go above and beyond and not be so stingy or subpar in a diversity of rich flavours. I will rate this place a 4 in honour of my beau. read more

It was my first time at this location and the decor was a bit different than the Toronto location. The service was great and the food was great. However, like usual the plating I wasn't a fan of. But the fillet was delicious and cooked to perfection. I ordered the creme brûlée for dessert and it was really good. I would definitely visit this location again. read more

Everything about this experience was amazing. Went in with a group of 4 and was seated and had the most amazing waiter David. We ordered the 2 shrimp apps and 40 oz porterhouse and also the Rib eye steak. We told them that we wanted to share everything. They brought plates that were heated at 500 degrees and butter melting on it. They then served the meat on the plate and you could hear the sizzling. Was delicious - I asked for it Chicago Style and they delivered it to perfection. Sorry I dont have the pictures as I was excited to dig in and get into that great meat! Delicious. Duh-lish. This was my first time ordering from RC. Im from the states and have never had. The food was great. Salad was my favorite. Steak salad baked potato around $160. For one person. We ordered ribeye and surf & turf, crab cake, lobster Mac and cheese, their food is amazing! Def worth the price. The only thing that disappointed me was the waitress, kinda all over the place, at the first she made a mistake with the menu, gave us wrong information...told us the entree we want to order was pre-set that has to order the soup, salad and dessert together, which was wrong and got us confused cuz pre-set won't indict price for each single dish, anyway. She didn't really have time to check on us until right before we pay, it was our anniversary, I know she doesn't need to care about that but some small talk here and there during the checkup would make a big difference on the tips. Manager Jammie was very professional! Our waitress...we over heard the convo between the waiter and our next table, they were on their anniversary as well, and they got a free cake. TBH the problem was not about the cake, if people can spend $300 on dinner, I believe they don't really care about a $10-$20 slices cake, well at least for that special day, but it definitely made customers feel different. Every time I come here, the group feels like the server discriminates because we are a younger crowd. When we pulled out our gift cards we felt like we were put in Ruth Chris jail. Service disappeared and we were left in the corner for 45 minutes. Dessert menu was given but no one followed up, water glasses were empty for a good hour and was never refilled. If we are paying over $100 in tips then the server should at least check up on us. Server focuses on tables where they believe they can milk more tips and it is obvious. Steaks were at best fairly price if not a bit overpriced. I was ready to take my tomahawk bone and go to war with the staff here. Next time maybe I will pay tips with 100 $1 gift cards, at least the staff will at be working for the tips swiping these cards. read more

My first experience at Ruth's Chris Steak House was for my 50th Birthday! The manager Sarah was very welcoming and directed me to my table! She was great with checking in on us to make sure we were enjoying ourselves . Our server Matthew was very knowledgeable about the menu, attentive to our needs and we felt very well taken care of. It was truly a VIP experience. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Matthew was also very accommodating with answering our questions about different cuts of steaks. Came here on a quiet Christmas Eve evening... it was almost empty when I entered at 5:30. I had a reservation and was there with my family of 4. They shoved us into a small table and when I asked out waiter for move to a larger empty booth beside us he told us there was a reservation coming in for 6:30. It was so pretty hard to put in my drink order as our waiter was no where to be found...we finished around 7:30 and the booth behind us that was supposedly reserved was still empty. The steak was delicious and was the highlight of the meal, baked potato was flavourless and had barely any ingredients. Creamed spinach was very watery. Overpriced, Average Quality, Disappointing Came here for Christmas Dinner with my family. Have heard good things about the Ruth's Chris chain. I'm hoping that it's just a bad location. My steak, I had ordered to be a medium cook. Came out rare-medium rare when I cut it open . So I sent it back, they basically re-cooked the cut pieces of steak and so it came back well done. Not much of apology given and you can't really send something back twice. Given that it is a steakhouse and for the price you pay, you would think they'd put more focus on cooking the steaks well. So I tried to make a reservation for dinner for 2 Saturday night. At first the website was broken for the Markham location and I got a 505 error. Once the site was back up the online system said it was full. I figured the online system had limited space so I called in to make reservations. The good news I was able to get a reservation. The sad part was that I was told there was a dress code. Jean's were not allowed. Since it was a last min booking I didnt have time to change so I didnt end up going. After I called in and asked again if it was okay for me to just go with casual wear. I got a firm no. We decided to try out the happy hour at Ruth's Chris. The happy hour is every day from 5-7pm at the bar. When we arrived we were greeted by our servers Celeste and Shante who seated us at the bar. The menu was slightly different than the one online, but the items we wanted were available. We ordered prime sliders, shoestring fries, and calamari. The meat of the prime sliders was juicy and flavourful. The slider buns were buttered and grilled. The shoestring fries were a generous portion and we were glad we shared a single order. We also ordered the calamari which had a nice flavour from the sweet pepper chili sauce. The batter on the calamari was the perfect amount. Our servers were friendly, and attentive. Ruth is in Markham. Damn thats gonna be damaging to the wallet but I'm so happy that they're located there. Ambience and decore was like stepping into a high end restaurant from the 60's. Really nicely done. Service is excellent and friendly. The meal starts off with bread but dont fill up on the bread and save room for the steaks. In terms of the steak I would say its the best steak you can get in the area. Its definately the best steak I have ever had. Got the t-bone for 85 and fillet for 75. The fillet was so soft and tender. The t-bone packed with flavour and really tender aswell. Side dishes okay but at $17 I would recommend to skip the sides. So after hearing of their melt-in-your-mouth steaks, I've always wanted to try their Toronto location. But never had the chance to. But ever since they had the opening soon sign at the once vacant Marriot hotel building, I was very excited ! So this weekend we organized a surprise birthday dinner for one of my friends. The greeters by the door were very friendly and accommodating. They even let me borrow an umbrella when I had to walk my SO to her car in the rain. (She had to leave early.) Our party was seated in a private party room. The interior ambience and decor was much like fine dining but there were a few people in more casual attire. I also noticed the intimate booths they had for couples. Our server was very nice and patient. I ordered the filet with 2 lobster tails. The food did take around 50 mins to get to us but it was a busy weekend night so it's understandable. Our food all came on sizzling hot plates. My filet was very soft and juicy, but it tasted a tad too salty for me. I'll ask for less salt next time. And the lobster tails were small. But overall it was good meal. When we were all done, some of the waiters came to clean off the crumbs and prepare the table for the birthday cake. Also, there were a few managers that came many times to check up on us through out the night. This was a nice gesture and really showed their attentiveness! Overall, this place definite met the hype. It's been what my daughter would call a "hot minute" since my wife and I left the house and actually went out to a restaurant to eat. So, when that time came where else would we go than Ruth's Chris? Make up for all that lost time by having an amazing meal served with the expert service they are known for. And this night was no different. After some lovely appies, we decided to split the tomahawk. And yes, we were definitely thinking ahead to many leftovers to stretch this gloriousness out longer than one night! The steak was cooked to perfection (Chicago rare- just like God intended it to be done), and the presentation, while not changing the taste, nonetheless made it even more magical. My wife had been talking about the creamed spinach before we even left the house, so that was a given for us to order - and it matched up to all her memories and expectations. We added some garlic mashed potatoes because they pair so well. If something ever went horribly wrong and I found myself vegetarian, I would still come here and order those two things together. We added some grilled Brussels sprouts too...cause they're made with bacon AND I can still hear my mother's voice telling me to eat something green - and no one believes me that 6-8 olives in a martini count...but I digress. That was the food. Literally it makes your mouth happy. But the more worthy of praise part of the night was the service. If you decide to go to this place, make sure Chris is serving and that you are in his section. Truly, he's a standard of professionalism that should be used for measuring all staff. In addition, he's engaging, conversational, has an incredible memory and makes you feel like you aren't the only person who thinks you are the most important person in the world. (And I always knew I wasn't the only one who felt that way!) I actually stopped the manager to tell him how "more than expectations" Chris's service was, only to find out I was not the first to suggest that he truly is worthy of note. I haven't been to a Ruth Chris's in many years but had great memories of lots of locations around North America although the Toronto location was never great. I'm afraid to say I was pretty disappointed at the Markham location. On arrival, the reception was exceptional and attentive. On entry, the decor is basically anywhere in the world glass and chrome but we are really here for the food. It started out very promising with the tuna appetizer being one of the best ever. Everything fell off the map after that. Who knew you could find chewy tendons in a ribeye? And a slab of fat running through the middle? Seriously, I've had better at the Keg. We shared a side of mushrooms that can best be described as meh. The only thing keeping this review from being a one was the exceptional service. The assistant server on the other hand was not up to par and asked us to get our own plates... I ordered from the Ruth's classic menu with a starter, side, and dessert. The lobster bisque soup was very salty and it was not intense flavouring, all I could taste was salt. The salad was a big portion but the type of lettuce they were using wasn't fresh at all considering the price we are paying. Finally, York Region gets to experience the "sizzle" of Ruth's Chris Steak House. No longer will the east 905's idea of steak be defined by that of The Keg or dare I say... Kelsey's? Blagarghhhhh. Ruth's Chris is likely the best Steak dinner you're gonna get from any large multi location chain, and realistically even beating out a lot of independent joints. The new Markham Downtown location, owned by the same people who own the Toronto and Mississauga locations has all the old school charm of the other two locations with a modern flair that fits in perfectly with the neighbourhood and the adjoining Marriott Hotel. We were a group of 11 guys who've been friends for 20+ years and this was our regular Friendsmas dinner, and with people now living all over this location was both convenient and classy enough where we didn't feel the need to plan something downtown. I ordered a couple of cocktails with my dinner and we all shared a few bottles of wine. Those of you who follow my reviews know that I evaluate the quality of an establishments cocktails by how well they execute the Old Fashioned. Unsure how they would do I was sure to be very specific about my preference of bourbon, sugar amount and amount of bitters I like. What was interesting was our server ended up being the one to make my drink and despite my instructions she was still consulting a book on how to make the cocktails. Not sure why there wasn't a bartender working to make drinks to help the servers out. The Old Fashioned arrived and it was made less to specifications and more by the book topped with soda water and adorned with cherry and orange. Taste wise it was good a nd exactly what you'd expect from a classic OF but I was a little disappointed that my requests were basically ignored. It was like James Bond ordering his shaken not stirred martini and getting it stirred. I ordered the Voodoo shrimp to begin and followed that up with the Cowboy Ribeye and shared orders of Lobster Mac and Cheese and Asparagus with my nearest dining companions. All the food was exceptional, the same delicious sizzling quality I have come to expect from RC over the years at each of their locations I've visited. The cowboy ribeye was cooked perfectly, and oh man what a massive cut of meat that was, I'm fairly certain I'll need a cardiac bypass after that just to get my body back to neutral. The one thing our entire group had issue with was our server and the level of service our large group received. I feel like this is likely a symptom of still being new and working out the kinds with staff and service but I feel these issue bear mentioning so management can take the feedback and ensure it's addressed as they move forward. 1. Our server pushed more expensive items for every question we had. I asked about steaks and was considering rib eye but she tried to push 3 more expensive cuts on me. She also tried to push 1 sides a person on our group - that would be 11 sides. I've dined at Ruths Chris before and their sides are massive and easily more than 2 people can eat when sharing, so from experience I know that 2 sides is good to share amongst 4 people, yet our server was trying to push a side a person on us, not only is that excessive but it's wasteful as we had plenty of left overs at the end. I think this person need worry about her tip out less and more about servicing her customers actual needs 2. Wait times. The restaurant wasn't slammed, it had a good amount of people in it but wasn't overly busy despite it being prime time on a Friday night. Our wait times on everything from drinks, to appetizers to mains and even for desserts and coffees was excessive. It actually became a bit of joke at our table regarding how long the next course would take to arrive, and even when they did, everything but the steaks arrived at different times. I could have removed more stars based on the above but I don't think that is fair to a new location trying to work out the kinds as I've said. The food and venue still stands head and shoulders above most other options. I plan on returning in the new year when the holiday traffic dies down a bit to see if these things have been addressed and if so I'm more than happy to move them to 5 stars as I've awarded their other locations.
