I experienced neck pain for many years which was annoying and disturbed my sleep I had tried medication and chiropractic care. The chiro helped but only briefly. I have been going to Ryan for over 2 years with excellent results. Now I don't even think about my neck at bedtime. The first month I started with 2-3 visits a week tapering off by the third week. I now go every 4-6 weeks for maintenance. I also get back and hip pain treated at the same time with great results. I don't experience the best relief immediately, but on the next day. So, I'll be the first to admit, this whole acupuncture thing- it's like freakin witchcraft to me. I don't get it. When my back hurts, I see my chiropractor and he cracks my back bones and I feel a bit better. Makes sense. When my neck muscles hurt, I see my massage therapist and she makes me cry while she works out the knots in my neck and then I feel better. Makes sense. Bones and muscles, those are the frame and gears of the body that get the wear and tear, so it makes sense to address those problem areas directly, right? The skin, well that's just a skeleton slipcover. A sausage casing we evolved to keep us from leaving a human shaped myoglobin goo stain on the couch when we get up. So acupuncture...well that's like attempting to fix a flat tire on your Prius by applying a new "Coexist" bumper-sticker to the bumper. It don't make no practical sense! Still, desperate times call for desperate measures. I developed a fairly severe case of tennis elbow over a month ago; and despite the best efforts of both my very competent chiropractor and massage therapist, the problem has persisted. Everybody agrees that what I need more than anything is to rest it; but my job is very labor intensive and I simply can't afford to not work. The constant pain was making me grumpy on a full time basis, so at the pleading of a friend/coworker, I resolved to give acupuncture a shot. Obviously I chose Crossroads because their price is cheap as dirt compared to other acupuncture options. How much is snake-oil actually worth after all? Was my thinking. Now, I will admit, their low cost is reflected a bit in the atmosphere of the business. It's obviously run on a budget. For instance the front receptionist's desk looks suspiciously like a desk I bought from Walmart and thoroughly abused for ten years before giving to Goodwill. And once you get to the communal treatment room and lie back, you'll have a nice view of the missing ceiling tile. In their defense, it is a rather high ceiling, and ladders aren't cheap. They do put their money and efforts toward more important things though- like health and safety. Every treatment begins with them opening a packet of new needles; and they have proper medical disposal recepticles for the used stuff. The "bedside manner" of both "Dr. Ryan" and "Dr. Janet" (as I like to think of them) is excellent. I've been there three times now- seen Dr Ryan once and Dr Janet twice. I was impressed that she remembered me and my elbow the second time. They see a LOT of people in their day so one wouldn't reasonably expect them to remember individuals after only one visit. Maybe it was my dashing good looks that made her remember. More likely it was the smell of my feet from the first time, as I had walked over a mile in 100 degrees to get there, not realizing I'd have to take my shoes and socks off so poor Dr Janet could make pin-cushions out of moi pieds. And the result of these treatments? You may be asking. ...well, first of all, prepare to take a nap. I don't care how awake you feel when you arrive, once they get the needles in you, some sort of melatonin/sedative thing kicks in and you're ready to nap. I guess it's similar to twitching a horse's lip. You just go all zen. And if you happen to be there while I'm there you may hear the occasional snore from my general area. It's not me though. Sorry though. My problem area being my left elbow, they stuck like a dozen needles throughout my head, right ear, right arm, both legs and feet, and, like, two in my left elbow. Don't make no practical sense!! Yet somehow, I've seen more pain relief this past week with the acupuncture than I had the entire month prior. It's not completely better. I still get some pretty nasty flare ups- especially during my long work days with consistant heavy lifting... but in general the pain is not as widespread and not as constant. I still don't think acupuncture is some sort of miracle or cure-all, but I don't consider it snake-oil anymore either. Like chiropractics and massage therapy, I think it's another viable option for "human maintenance" we should all have. I don't understand it, but I guess I don't have to so long as Dr Janet and Dr Ryan are willing to take care of me for such a reasonable cost. " read more

I am a medically retired Firefighter and have been a chronic pain patient for over 20 years. I've had seven surgeries, two in the last year, been addicted to painkillers and didn't have much faith in acupuncture. A little over a year ago I tried it because...what did I have to lose? I will always consider this a part of my recovery. After my most recent surgeries acupuncture, and chiropractic I feel better than I have in 10 years. Crossroads represents a great value in acupuncture. A private acupunturist may charge $100-$125 per hour. Now that buys you a private consultation in a private office. On the other hand, this is a what is called a community acupuncture clinic. To keep costs low ($20 per treatment), you share space with eight to 10 other clients. Each has their own recliner. You explain to the acupuncturist what health problem you are trying to improve, and they place the acupunture needles. Now, this is NOT for everyone. If you feel you are uncomfortable in such a setting, and can afford a private acupuncturist, you should definitely try that route instead. This is a budget-friendly system, and you have to be willing to embrace the compromises that entails. I've had acupuncture there for over a year, and it has vastly improved my life. I think western medicine is highly effective for many things, but when it is not, acupuncture is definitely worth a try. read more

My family gets treatment here, mom has herniated disk and arthritist, dad has 2 knee replacements and herniated disk both get major relief although not 100% but 75-80%, my nephew plays high school baseball and is a pitcher goes to reduce swelling and discomfort on his shoulder and elbow. I have been dealing with an "ice pick" kind of stabbing pain in my lower back/upper buttocks area for years now. I finally decided to try acupuncture, since the combination of "sportsman" dose pain relievers, and arthritis pills which I was prescribed by local doctors were not cutting it...even when I enhanced them in the evening with several glasses of wine! In two weeks time, Dr. Ryan has helped me to the point that I am off the meds and down to one glass of wine with dinner (recommended by my primary care for good heart health, of course). In the six sessions I have attended, not only has Dr. Ryan helped me considerably with this lower back problem, but he has also aided in the flexibility of my neck (which is ALWAYS stiff and knotted from scar tissue from cervical decompression surgery back in 1992). The therapy is painless, you get to take a nap in the middle of the afternoon whichout guilt or shame. The results for me personally have been nothing short of AWESOME! Their pricing is more than reasonable, and you can tell that both Dr. Ryan and Laura actually care about their patients and their improved health... and are definitely not motivated by greed. I love this place. I've been going pretty much weekly for almost a year, and it really helps me manage my chronic back pain. Both Janet and Ryan are very kind and attentive, and I have never felt awkward with them, which is saying something, as I am a pretty self-conscious person. We discuss my needs in low voices, and I assume that the other patients, with their eyes closed in the darkened room, are respecting my privacy, as I respect theirs. I went to this establishment for the first time ever and as soon as I walked in a gentleman greeted my with "sshhh" than asked for my name he asked me some questions about what I needed the accupture for. I asked him about his education and experience, after about 10 minutes of conversation he seem to know what he was talking about. However while having the needles in I started to experience a great deal of pain, to the point to where I was praying and almost in tears. When my time was up the gentleman returned to the room, removed the needles, and asked me how I was feeling. At which time I told him not to good at all that I was in a lot of pain. For several days after I was very tender to the touch and sore in most of the spots the needles were place. Seeing as how I have had accupture many times prior to this time, I know this is NOT a normal reaction for me. In spite of the fact that he offered me a "free session, with smaller needles ", I will Never return to this establishment. read more

Receiving acupuncture from licensed personnel (Ryan & Janet) has many benefits with no harmful side affects. It helps people with pain issues, either temporary or chronic, and it is a great way to relax and let the endorphins that are produced reduce personal stress level - I always leave feeling better than when I came in. It is a natural high without the risk associated with taking a drug. And, because the treatment is in a community setting where several people can be treated at the same time, the cost is reasonable for everyone - less than a normal co-pay at a Doctor's office. Also, Crossroads has initiated a border project to introduce the benefits of acupuncture to people in Juarez as they deal with all of their challenges. Crossroads has had several fund raisers to benefit the border project and the necessary training that is associated with it. Let me start by saying I make my living in alternative healthcare. I went to try acupuncture for the first time here because of a chronic problem I have. I knew that they had a community room going in there, it's defiantly not for me, but I thought I would try it anyways. I was never able to discuss my concerns and what I wanted from my treatment because there is no private room to discuss your medical history. You're just in a big room with a bunch of strangers and it seems like no one can talk. Very awkward. So basically there's no discussion, just point to where it hurts. They also want you to lay down, which I didn't want to do, but you have no choice apparently. I would have just liked to sit and read a book but everyone expects you to take a nap. No thanks. So after an hour I leave and they want me to come back 2-3 times a week. Ummm....why? Do you even know what you're treating? No because we never talked about it. So I left and two hours later I'm in way more pain than before and its spread. So I guess I would recommend going here if you want to take a nap with a bunch of strangers for an hour. I understand one treatment isn't going to cure anything, but you shouldn't feel worse after. Also the lack of a general intake was very disappointing. read more
