I think I was searching renovation when frankly the job I wanted was demolition. He had an opening and a crew, I had a flexible schedule, so he came and removed the basement. Fair price, courteous and polite, removed what I wanted. Frequent check ins. On time. What more could you ask for? Turns out I probably have another project for him... we ran out of time and steam last week, but I'm calling him again. Edit: Called him again. This time for a deck and raised garden.
