I attended the welcome barbeque at season opening, but Mike didn't welcome me, didn't introduce me to a single person, and there were only about 10 people there--all men. Definitely not a WELCOME at all. Don't join unless you're a super player. The website insisted that all levels were welcome. Not true. Instead, I paid the wonderful pro, Harold Toussaint, to play with me every week, and by the end of the season--which incidentally ends on election day instead of (as the web site states) the first snow--I was ready to return to California and play comfortable tennis with my old senior friends.

"In your face in Jesus name, Amen!" :) Thanks to my good friend Pat I was introduced to WTTC. I never knew this place existed, let alone the 19 tables available for play at a whopping $10 a person on the weekend from open to close. The price includes use of the paddles and balls. If you want a good workout let me tell you something, we were sweating up a storm. There are some serious players here and coaches who train with passion. These players are fully immersed in the sport. I watched in awe at the skill level these players play at. If you want to learn the game or hone your skills, WTTC can help with private coaching. The coaches from what I see are really good as they put there students through the paces and drills. I heard there are tournaments held here. So if you want to raise that trophy high over your head one day. I believe WTTC can help you get there.

In this clean, well maintained, multi-tabled facility, lessons are available to all skill levels or you can just be a spectator and watch a tournament of the worlds top ranked players of the sport. The setting is gorgeous and I am surprised at how little wind we feel even though we're right on the river. The restaurant above it, which I know is separate, leaves something to be desired, so I would recommend one of the other restaurants in HOH instead. Areas for improvement include: - Court maintenance: TCH has a system of sweep if you want, otherwise one of the grounds keepers will sweep every once in a while. I think they should just institute a sweep the court once you're done rule because a) it doesn't seem good for the courts and b) seems like a really crappy job for the grounds keepers, at least one of whom seems like he actively resents it and takes it out on the poor brooms and occasionally, by being extremely rude to the players on the court. - Record keeping: When two of us signed up to be Diamond members, we asked if we could pay in installments, which the "management" agreed to. TCH seems to lack managers who prioritize organized record keeping because they did not charge us when they told us they would, and they often charged the wrong credit card. When I first asked for a receipt of payment, they asked why, and it took at least 3-4 additional calls for me to finally get a receipt of our payments. - Customer Service: Most of the front desk staff are pretty friendly, but there are things that some of them do that drive me bonkers. A friend of ours who lives in Brooklyn came and played as our guest several times when he visited on some weekends. TCH used the phone number he listed on the waiver form to essentially phone bank him to become a member. A) he lives in Brooklyn--why would he become a member, and B) I felt embarrassed that staff/management thought it was an appropriate practice to pester him multiple times a week for weeks at a time. He actually stopped answering calls from any 914 numbers because he thought it would be TCH. In addition, I feel that I have to remind some front desk staff repeatedly of who I am and that yes, I'm a Diamond member. Seems like once you pay your dues, the emphasis on attentive customer service fades a way a bit.

My friend and I book open court times at Kings Highway and it is a beautiful club. The courts are…read morewell-lit and clean, and the sitting area and lobby are sooo modern and comfy. The locker rooms while not huge, are also modern and always clean. I take lessons at their nearby sister club, Shippan Racquet Club - but I've seen the elite junior kids play and wow - they blow me away. The courts are usually very busy even up until late at night when we play - so I really love the energy. The parking lot always has plenty of spaces, and I love that they are right around the corner from Trader Joe's and Starbucks.
