    Nostalgic Japanese Shio Ramen
    Rachel L.

I got the Nostalgic Japanese Shio Ramen and really liked it. The soup base is light but also very flavourful. The noodles and toppings all went well together. Portions aren't very large, best to get an appetizer with your ramen if you're hungry. The service good. You order everything on the app. The food came out quickly. They have a hidden outdoor patio in the back as well!

My friend and I came here today in the evening and there were still spots although they were getting quite full. I got the spicy shoyu ramen with 1/2 noodles, and a seasoned egg. This ramen features original chicken authentic broth combined with soy sauce base. For meats they give one slice of pork cha-shu and one slice of chicken cha-shu. There was also some arugula, bamboo shoots, and white fungus. The broth was thicker than other places but I still very much enjoyed it! It was so rich and flavourful. My friend got the spicy miso ramen and she didn't enjoy it as much but she still finished all the noodles. Service was quite attentive. Only reason why I gave this place 4/5 is because I feel the value could be more for the price. At $17.5, the price doesn't include an egg either and there are extra costs with changing the levels of spice.

Not my favourite ramen spot but definitely good! We ordered the Nostaligic Shio Ramen and Beef Curry. I want to preface this that their broths are chicken based and does not include MSG! I'm not used to chicken broth but it was really yummy, though I definitely still prefer pork! The service was quite fast on a Saturday night and the prices were very reasonable. The noodle was a little more on the al dente side and thin which is where it fell a little short for me - I like them chewy! The portions of the beef curry were a little small and wish it came with the potato and carrots that we're used to having Japanese curry with. Other than that, it was a really good place and would come back if craving ramen around the area again!

Highly recommend the Taiwanese Maze Soba and RYUS Rich Shio Ramen. it was our first time here and we wanted to try their signature Rich Shio Ramen and something a bit different. The Rich Shio Ramen was true to its name with a very rich and intense chicken broth that was full of savoury chicken flavour and a silky creamy texture. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the toppings were all good. I think adding a seasoned egg for $2.50 is a bit pricey. The Taiwanese Maze Soba was very unique to us and I wasn't sure what made it Taiwanese but nevertheless we were very happy with it. There's a free upsize and we got the "hot" spice level. I find that Japanese food isn't usually spicy even when it's called hot, but this one actually had heat! The toppings along with the egg made a super umami sauce that coated the perfectly chewy noodles. Both dishes tasted great and staff were nice and helpful. The location is clean and construction on Broadview means you have to park down the street.

Wow, I am so happy I discovered this gem of a place! I always walk past them since my nail salon is right next to Ryus. I never thought that the ramen here can be so amazing. Spontaneously came here on a Saturday evening looking for a quick bite with my boyfriend. They weren't that busy so we were seated really quickly. The restaurant was small, clean and very cute. The waitresses were very nice and super attentive, they kept refilling our waters and cleaned up our bowls really quick when we finished. We both decided to try their limited edition ramens which were the Maple Butter Shio Ramen and the Garlic Black Oil Rich Shio Ramen. They were both so delicious and I was so surprised with the broth. The broth was a bit thick which coated the noodles so perfectly every bite was so flavourful the arugula in the noodles gave it a fresh bitter taste that help cut down the heaviness and the sous vide chicken breast WAS SO TENDER. Both bowls were so good, I actually UberEats them again the next day.

I decided to give it a try seeing it has good reviews. They have a selection of ramen and rice dishes to choose from. Menu is digital, you scan the QR code. They have a loyalty program, purchase 10 bowls, get one free. I ordered the rich shio ramen, their most popular dish. I thought it was average. The broth did not have complex flavour, mostly salty. The noodles were a little on the al dente side. Not very chewy. after tax about $20 for a bowl of ramen, i think it's overpriced for what you get.

Soooo yum. Fast service. Nicely decorated ambiance. And equally amazing veggie options.

No MSG chicken broth? Sign me up! I'm a sucker for ramen, it's probably my favourite food next to sushi. I'm also a sucker for seasonal specials, and the Autumn + Winter special at RYUS was one of them. This dipping ramen was delicious! Sous-vide AAA roast beef, black truffle, bits of pork belly in the miso dipping broth. AND an extra bowl of rice to suck up the extra broth. If there was a perfect dish, it would be this one. Compliments to whoever crafted this dish, and the chef. My boyfriend ordered the nostalgic Japanese Shio ramen, which he said was tasty. We like the non-MSG broths! The bar area was so cute, aesthetically pleasing and cozy. It didn't feel as tight as other ramen shops which I liked.

Soupy noodles are my comfort food of choice after a long or cold day! The broth, noodles and toppings all combine together harmoniously to make a delicious dish. I actually typically don't order noodle soups when I'm out thought because I'm a baby when it comes to got temperatures. So if I order noodle soups, we are gonna be sitting there for a while as I wait for it to cool down On this day I did decide to get a bowl from Ryu's ! We got the Spicy Miso ramen and either the shio or shoyu ramen (can't remember! This is what happens when I don't write it down). Spicy miso was not bad but I do think I preferred the other one more! Noodles were cooked to perfection without being soggy. Ryu is pretty well known and often listed as one of the best ramen places in Toronto. I'm not a ramen connoisseur so I can't tell you whether its the best, but it is quiet good.

Nestled in a cozy corner of Toronto, this authentic Japanese ramen store offers a delightful culinary journey for ramen enthusiasts. Upon stepping into the warmth of the establishment, one is greeted by the inviting aroma of simmering broth and the promise of a satisfying meal. My recent visit to this quaint eatery left me with mixed feelings, albeit mostly positive. The Nostalgic Japanese Shoyu, priced at $16.25, delivered a rich and flavorful broth that warmed both body and soul. The noodles, cooked to perfection, provided a comforting base for the savory concoction. However, the portion size left something to be desired; considering the price point, a heartier serving would have been appreciated. Opting for the Shio Plum Ramen at $15.95, I embarked on a culinary adventure tinged with nostalgia and innovation. The plum-infused broth offered a unique twist, with each spoonful bursting with tangy sweetness. The noodles, consistent with the store's standard, were impeccably cooked, though, again, a more generous portion would have elevated the experience. In conclusion, while there's room for improvement in portion sizing, the culinary offerings at this establishment undoubtedly stand out in the realm of Toronto's ramen scene. For those seeking a taste of traditional Japanese fare with a twist, this charming spot on Broadview Avenue is well worth a visit. I, for one, look forward to returning and exploring more of their enticing menu offerings. For our full review check out my blog! Link in my bio!

Why is it a 4 instead of a 5 now? Mapo Tofu on Rice (Large) 2/5 For something that costs over $16 with tax, it was REALLY NOT worth it. The pictures looked good and I was curious to try their rice dishes for the first time but the rice was very mushy and not cooked properly at all. The mapo tofu itself tasted okay but not that flavorful. For $3.25 extra, it looked like they just added more rice and no mapo tofu. I would love to try their curry or pork cha-shu, but I was so disappointed in their mapo tofu on rice so I'll have to reconsider. Gyoza 3/5 Again, juicy fillings but the dough is quite thick and the filling is not too much. Paying close to $2 per gyoza is a bit much even for how tasty the filling is. But my friend wanted to try it. Shio Plum ramen 3.5/5 It was good, but not as good as their Rich Shio. Taste was delicate. I'm not sure if someone new started working there but the noodle was a bit soft and clumpy like they overcooked it or let it sit out for too long. The seasoned egg was good but pretty cold. So why is it a 4 star and not lower? Because I still think that their Rich Shio and Garlic Shio (seasonal) that I tried on the same day is still one of the best ramen in Toronto. They have read my reviews before and relayed it to the kirchen so I have hope that they will improve their dish.

Expected quite a lot from this place given it's decent reviews on Yelp and Google. Located in the Danforth area, this place has a cool vibe and you are immediately greeted by enthusiastic servers. They have your typical selection of broths and noodles that you'd find at any other ramen shop. Got the Shoyu Ramen ($16.25) which all in all, was just ok. Really nothing to scoff about. The pork I thought lacked a bit of that rich, charred flavour I like from other ramen spots, and the broth was also a tad lighter than what I'm used to, especially for a Shoyu. Pretty much all I can say about the Shoyu is, meh. Probably wouldn't come back since I've definitely had much better ramen elsewhere not just in Toronto, but around the GTA

*** December 2021 Review *** Ramen | LLBO | Chicken broth Covid protocols are on place. Currently dine in capacity at about 20 people. Yelp waitlist is highly encouraged. Back again since I've tried it a few years ago. Still great flavours and service! "Hot wine" I assumed since it's near Christmas this would be like mulled wine. It came with a cinnamon stick however the flavours of the other ingredients of a mulled wine was lacking. Not very fragrant. Gyoza (pork) Delicious but the bottom could be a bit more burnt and crispier. Angus Roast Beef Ramen (Shio) Thick and creamy soup full of flavor. The roast beef was good, served with truffle oil. Doesn't come with egg or seaweed but it does come with some snow fungus which was interesting. Niboshi Ramen (anchovies clear broth, limited time) Lovely fishy broth. The pork slices were tender but I prefer the roasted style better. Also doesn't come with egg but there is one piece of seaweed. Overall still a great experience, will definitely come back. ****************************************** Cash & debit only | New location (moved) | Ramen | Across from Subway station | LLBO | Take out or dine in New location moved from Baldwin due to fire in June 2017. Now steps away from Broadview station. Still delicious ramen noodles and rich broth. Still great customer service all around. Clean and comfortable seating environment. Bathrooms are downstairs, one men and one women stall. Providing tootpicks, mouth wash and q-tips. Came in Labour Day Monday and they were open. Great summer breeze from open windows and doors. Downfall to that are bees joining me at my table. The server was super nice she kept coming to help me capture and release bees out of the restaurant (however they kept coming back). Hitachino Ale Beer $9.75 Taste like IPA and not available at LCBO. Imported from Japan. Served in their ow branded glass. Angus beef curry dip', noodle $13.75 Delicious sweet Japanese curry dipped noodles. Not a lot of beef in the sauce however. Choice of regular or large size. Pork blaster noodle $17.95 Chose shiyo soup base. Delicious rich broth with noodles and 8 pieces of pork char-siu and a boiled egg. Generous portion; too much for myself to enjoy. Choice of shiyo/shoyu/miso/spicy miso soup base. I'd definitely come back here again. Cash and debit only.

We walked in at around ~7 pm on a Saturday and it was looking busy - however, we were seated pretty quickly given there was only 2 of us. Lots of seating inside for different groups, and I appreciate how there was some bar seating that accommodated single patrons. We ordered takoyaki and 2 ramen - I had the regular Tori Paitan while my partner had the God Fire (level 2). You had the option to customize your bowl from beginning to end - from softness of the noodles, saltiness of the broth, extra toppings - this place really reminded me of the local ramen spots we went to when we were in Japan. Despite how busy the restaurant was, the food came out quick!! Takoyaki was delicious and piping hot. The broth for both ramen came out very flavourful and I will say - while my partner loves spicy food and I do not... I cannot imagine what level 4 would taste like, level 2 definitely had a kick! The staff were amazing and navigated a small space so well. We really enjoyed our dinner - we were in and out within an hour. I'll definitely be coming back and would highly recommend!

I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. The noodles were cooked perfectly, maintaining just the right amount of bite. Nothing ruins a bowl of ramen faster than overcooked noodles. The soft-boiled egg was equally well executed, with a perfectly jammy center, and the chashu had excellent flavor and texture. My biggest criticism isn't what's missing....it's what's added. Like many ramen shops outside Japan, Konjiki includes pickled ginger, pickled takana, and braised bamboo shoots. For me, none of them improve the bowl. In fact, I think they distract from what should be the star of the show: the broth. In hindsight, I could have easily asked for them to be left out, but I've never really understood why they're included in the first place. My friend ordered the Avocado Vegetarian Ramen as part of a set. We were both intrigued by the taste of the broth. It was creamy, but not super thick, and had a fresh, vegetal taste. One miss this time was that my friend ordered a drink, but unfortunately it did not come out at all while we ate. We mentioned it when asking for our bill and asked that it just be cancelled, which the server was apologetic about. Interior is kept clean, which some table seating along both walls and also a long high-top bar (communal) in the middle. There's isn't any parking designated to the restaurant, but there's options for paid street parking a short walk away.

They also offered a matcha dessert -- and even though I'm not usually a matcha fan, it tasted surprisingly great. Overall, I had a genuinely enjoyable meal here.

Tips: - You get a stamp card for ramen. Each time you order…read moreramen, you earn a stamp. Five stamps gets you free gyoza. Reach ten stamps and you get a free bowl of ramen. - The chashu is excellent! My rating is 4.5 stars. I'm rounding down. Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)

The black garlic ramen, veggie gyoza and Takoyaki were all savoury and fantastic. The portion sizes for price were appropriate and I ended up taking some of it home. They're all beautiful dishes on the plate. Service was friendly and quick, we were greeted, seated and served within minutes of walking in. Soon after we sat down, the restaurant filled up with other patrons which is a good sign. However I also judge a restaurant based on its cleanliness and the washrooms leave much to be desired. If a restaurant's washrooms aren't clean, it gives you a window into how dirty the kitchen and back of house are. The washrooms are in a serious need of a cleaning. There is black filth on the white doors, everything has a bit of a grime covering multiple surfaces. Overall, the food is delicious, I would return but maybe for take-out next time. Please clean your restaurant.
