In short S &S can be a treasure trove if you understand how things work and know that yes you will be bidding against other auctioneers and antique dealers.

Everyone is always friendly and polite among the staff including the auctioneers themselves. I mean sure, they can be gruff but that seems par for the course among other auctions I have been to. Sometimes stuff is dirt cheap and sometimes someone else is there who happens to want what you want and then it can get expensive. That's how auctions work. I stage homes, including two of my own, and I have gotten some of my most treasured pieces here over the years. There is a 15% buyers fee (I've seen auctions charge up to 25% so this is not too bad), plus you are paying NJ state sales tax, so add both those on to what you think you are paying so you don't have a surprise. I also don't remember my first trip there because it's been several years so I don't remember if I had to leave my ID or not, apparently the only other review of the auction was about this... But I can tell you that I've shopped here numerous times, and spent plenty of money, with no issues. In the early morning the do 'box lots' and the cheapest stuff out in back. Sometimes they have building materials in the morning, too (I've seen doors, windows, fencing and wrought iron) and tools. Starting about 10 am they start the cheap furniture, and then about noon the do the inside furniture which is where the higher end stuff/antiques are likely to be. Pay attention, inspect the stuff carefully and set a top price you are willing to pay. Have fun and have some tacos from the taco truck, too.

Writing this review as a BUYER at a sale run by this company (specifically someone named Aubrey…read moreGledhill). Came to a sale this past weekend and was pretty shocked at the unreasonable pricing on nearly everything in the house in question. As an example: Lily Pulitzer dresses priced at $20 each, when a resale shop would easily put them at $10. Was also there at the second half of the *last* day of the sale, yet Ms. Gledhill was deeply uninterested in making any kind of deals or accepting offers. I noted that a woman was interested in an extremely large and heavy hanging bell that was sitting unpriced in the basement, for which Ms. Gledhill wanted $50. When the woman said that seemed like too much, Ms. Gledhill copped quite an unprofessional attitude in her expression of disinterest in negotiating. I also must say I was shocked at Ms. Gledhill's attire. If this is meant to be an upscale estate sale agency, you would not have surmised this by her manner of dress; she seemed as if she had just come from a yoga class, and not like someone present and representing a classy agency looking to help turn over high end estates. At the same time, it seemed like there were many higher value items whose prices had been overlooked, so ironically I bought an epensive blazer and an vintage sweater for $5 each. If I was the *seller*, I would be quite irritated to know this. Based on what I observed as a *buyer*, I would not suggest turning to this agency for your estate sale needs.

Everything that Briggs did to handle the estate was top-notch: from initial communication about the process and their pricing structure, to carefully packing and moving the items, to researching and assessing each piece, and finally, to selling the items with detailed, accurate descriptions, then providing a detailed list of what sold, for how much, and a check sent within a month of the last sale. Josie from Briggs was great both on the phone and over email (and in person, per my mom). My mom said she couldn't be happier with Briggs - even if some items didn't fetch as much money as we had hoped they would, we felt like everything was handled very professionally and fairly - and sometimes, antiques just don't go for as much as you'd think they would. It's a finicky market. Many thanks to Josie and the Briggs team for their outstanding professionalism and service!
